https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fpg/joe-juskos-art-of-the-1992-marvel-masterpieces

We’re turning the famous Joe Jusko "1992 Marvel Masterpieces"
Spider-Man painting into a heavyweight, bronze 3D trading card!
It’s being created with a nod to the three 1996 bronze cards shown here.

*PLEASE NOTE: These three vintage bronze trading cards pictured are shown ONLY for reference. THEY ARE NOT INCLUDED WITH THIS EDITION AND ARE NOT AVAILABLE FROM FPG.
Thank you!

CLARIFYING POINTS ABOUT THIS EDITION: The Signed and Numbered Slipcased Edition is limited to just 1992 copies. Each of these copies will have a very exclusive, heavyweight, solid bronze 3D trading card featuring Joe's famous Marvel Masterpieces Spider-Man painting accompanying it! The Kickstarter price is $295.

Once the Kickstarter campaign ends, any remaining available copies will be available through retail stores for $450. HOWEVER, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING: The bronze cards are only available HERE, and production will be strictly limited to the number of books in this edition that are pledged via Kickstarter. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fpg/joe-juskos-art-of-the-1992-marvel-masterpieces

Thirty years ago, a trading card series was released that would forever change the non-sport card industry.

The “1992 Marvel Masterpieces.”

Because of the sheer popularity of this series, it took an unprecedented 350,000 boxes to quench the thirst of card collectors worldwide. Nothing like it has been seen before or since.

This series would not have become the monumental success that it did, had artist Joe Jusko not produced 104 mind-boggling paintings! Joe literally set the standard for all the Marvel Masterpieces series that were to follow. Each of the 104 paintings have become iconic portrayals of the great Marvel characters, and these cards hold such a special place in the hearts of collectors of all ages—many of whom were young, single-digit or teenaged fans at the time of the series release.

It goes without saying that a large art book which highlights the amazing work Joe created is long overdue. The art needs to be presented at a larger-than-trading-card size. That’s exactly what you will get in “Joe Jusko’s Art of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces,” a new deluxe, 8.5” x 11”, 300-page, hardcover volume from FPG.

This celebratory book will include all 104 of the paintings Joe produced for the original release, as well as the 20 additional paintings created for the four-issue comic collection published the following year. It will also detail the history of the series: how it came to be and the magnitude of attention that it received through numerous promotions. And finally, being published for the first time are Joe’s original pencil sketches for each of the 104 trading card paintings.

There will be three editions available:
- A deluxe, hardcover edition with dust jacket. Printed only with the highest quality paper and binding, which a collection such as this deserves! Priced at $59.
- A signed and numbered, slipcased edition, which will be limited to just 1992 copies. Each of these copies will contain a very exclusive heavyweight solid bronze 3D trading card of the famous Spider-Man painting! $295.
- An "Original Painted Masterpieces" Edition. Limited to only 104 copies, each will have an original fantastic character painting that is Joe’s homage to the paintings he produced 30 years ago. Joe has created only one painting of each character—at the same size as his original 1992 paintings! A once-in-a-lifetime event! $2,500

This is a book that we have planned to publish for a very long time. And, we are very grateful to be working alongside the good folks at Marvel Comics. It is worth noting that this is a groundbreaking offering via Kickstarter; our first-of-many officially licensed Marvel projects that will be available there. We have listened to thousands of collectors over the past several years; there are many who no longer have easy access to local shops. Through Kickstarter, we will bring “Joe Jusko’s Art of the 1992 Marvel Masterpieces” directly to your door! The scheduled Kickstarter launch date is November 1st.

We will continue to post updates during the countdown to November 1st. Please feel free to contact Sam Levin at [email protected] if you have any questions. THANK YOU!

"Bernie Wrightson: The FPG Years"
LIVE NOW on Kickstarter!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fpg/bernie-wrightson-the-fpg-years

Finally, a large art book that collects the incredible paintings that Bernie Wrightson spent two years creating!

It’s been almost 30 years since Bernie Wrightson let his imagination run wild on his two trading card series. Over a two-year period, he created 150 fantastic NEW paintings. Vivid images of swamp creatures, vampires, werewolves, and beasties of all types congregate throughout these works.

These paintings have never been assembled in book form. They have never been seen at close to the actual size at which they were produced. This is a comprehensive 200-page hardcover collection that measures 9” x 11” and is a real trip through Bernie’s hair-raising body of work for FPG. Included is the original, insightful text that he wrote for each painting, as well as original documentation of the making of the two trading card series.

This is a book that is truly 30 years in the making, and we hope that you will join us for our celebration of Bernie Wrightson’s world!

“The Spoils of War” by Barclay Shaw

Featured in two FPG trading card series: As the display box cover for “x” trading cards and in “Colossal Cards Series 2.”

https://www.fpguniverse.com/colossal-cards-series-two

Shaw’s comments on the card back: “This cover for the last of the Alan Dean Foster ‘The Damned’ series is a good example of excellent art direction. The first version of the painting is fine in itself. But the direction to make the background yellow makes the art really sing.”

Excerpt from trading cards description: “Barclay Shaw's covers for the reissues of Harlan Ellison's works gained him both notoriety and a Hugo nomination, after which he went on to create numerous covers for most of the top publishing houses. His surreal, symbolic style has carved a niche in the world of cover artwork. Presented in this box is a vast collection of his work, from his Heinlein paintings to his renderings of Tarzan for reissues of Edgar Rice Burroughs books. This spectacular series is sure to take you on the visual ride of your life.”

“Firetime” by David Mattingly

Featured as the wrapper art for FPG’s “The Fantasy Art of David Mattingly” trading cards.

https://www.fpguniverse.com/david-b-mattingly-fantasy-art-trading-cards

Mattingly’s comments on the card back: “I got a job right out of art school at Walt Disney Studios as a special effects matte artist under Harrison Ellenshaw’s direction. Matte painting is an optical process that combines painting and live action film. The technique of matte painting influenced my style, and I consider my work at Walt Disney an important part of my development.”

Excerpt from trading cards description: “David B. Mattingly has worked as a matte artist on a number of top Disney films, including ‘The Black Hole’ and ‘Tron,’ eventually becoming the head of the matte department. As a freelance artist, he then worked on the movie posters for ‘The Blue Lagoon,’ ‘E.T.,’ and ‘THE THING.’ His work has also graced the covers of more than 400 fantasy and science fiction books. Here, FPG is proud to present you with this beautiful collection of the very best of Mattingly's work.”

https://www.fpguniverse.com/colossal-cards-1
https://www.facebook.com/larry.elmore.716

Elmore’s comments about the painting on the card back: “This painting has my three favorite things to paint: funny looking little critters, landscapes and women.”

Excerpt from trading cards description: “When conversations turn to the very best in fantasy art, they will always include Larry Elmore. Published early on in the pages of ‘National Lampoon’ and ‘Heavy Metal’ magazines and probably best known for his wildly popular paintings for TSR (the producers of ‘Dungeons & Dragons,’ ‘Dragonlance,’ ‘Forgotten Realms,’ and ‘Ravenloft’), Elmore has worked with the likes of Lucasfilm Ltd., DC Comics, Bantam Books, Warner Books, Tonka Toys, Mattel, Monogram Models, and countless others. This collection is a playground for the eyes, filled with knights, dragons, beasts of the past, and future worlds yet unexplored.”

“Stardust” by Charles Vess

Originally the cover of the “Stardust” comic written by Neil Gaiman, this painting was featured as the cover of the display box for FPG’s “Charles Vess Fantasy Art Trading Cards.”

https://www.fpguniverse.com/charles-vess-fantasy-art-trading-cards
https://www.facebook.com/charles.vess.71

Excerpt from trading cards description: “While Charles Vess is perhaps best known for his work as a comic book artist, most notably producing cover for ‘Swamp Thing’ and ‘Books of Magic’ as well as a highly original Spider-Man story, ‘Spirits of the Earth,’ he has not limited himself to traditional comic book material. Vess describes his work as, ‘fantasy with a softer edge.’ This fifteen-year retrospective of classic Vess work should serve to illuminate the brilliant past of this talented artist.”

“Fight for the Night” by Mike Ploog

Done for the “Mike Ploog Fantastic Art Trading Cards.” For his work on the series, Ploog personally selected the pieces he wanted to create. Later published at a much larger size in the first volume of “The Art of Ploog.”

https://www.fpguniverse.com/mike-ploog-fantastic-art-trading-cards
https://www.fpguniverse.com/newreleases #/the-art-of-ploog

Ploog’s commentary on this painting: “As darkness closes in, mankind takes to the shelter of its houses and huddles around the fire. Outside, screams and scratches can be heard as the demons battles for possession of the night.”

Excerpt from Original Trading Cards Description: “Mike Ploog is, without a doubt, one of the most talented artists that Marvel Comics ever had gracing their pages. Ploog's work on such titles as ‘Werewolf By Night,’ ‘The Frankenstein Monster,’ ‘Man-Thing,’ and ‘Ghost Rider’ are considered to be modern-day classics. They are obviously some of the true gems of the silver age of comics. In addition to his time in comics, he is acclaimed for his work in the motion picture industry on such popular films as ‘The Dark Crystal,’ ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ ‘Heavy Metal,’ ‘John Carpenter's THE THING,’ and many more. For this series, Ploog painted 90 all-new pieces. All of your favorites are here: barbarians, werewolves, vampires, Frankenstein's monster, King Kong, and much, much more–everything he was dying to do but never had the opportunity to do.”
