Some snaps from last night's Visages of Asia opening at

Black Hand Gang Printmaking Studio presents 'Visages of Asia' a printmaking showcase. .id

The diversity that exists within Asia is a language that bridges this continent to the rest of the world, the language that we use to tell stories about histories collected from all around Asia, through an array of art prints highlighting elements of particularly Southeast Asian history.

This presentation showcases artworks done primarily by Black Hand Gang’s emerging studio artists who explored various printmaking techniques such as screen print, intaglio, cyanotype, and many more, to produce high-quality decorative art prints.

If you missed last night's opening, the showcase will continue until 17th April, presenting Asian-inpired prints in different explorations, techniques, and visual styles. Moreover, if you're a creative or a business interested in in-depth viewings and print project enquiries.

Vogue Philippines has just unveiled a 106-year-old tattoo artist, Apo Whang-Od as the cover star of its April issue, that makes her the oldest person ever to appear on the front page of Vogue. She has been described as a symbol of “the strength and beauty of the Filipino spirit”.

According to sources, as the country’s oldest mambabatok (traditional tattooist), she is best known for mastering the 1,000-year-old “shell” tattoo technique, which employs the traditional tapping method using charcoal soot and a sharp stick. The report even says that her work has inspired a new generation of Batok artists from the Philippines to the United States.

Before Whang-Od made her appearance on the cover of Vogue Philippines, actress Dame Judi Dench held the record for being the oldest Vogue cover model, she appeared on the cover of British Vogue in 2020 at age 85. Thoughts?

It's time to bring Indonesia’s iconic culinary heritage to the international palate! The Indonesian government is currently on a mission to take the nation’s cuisine all over the world through a program called Indonesia Spice Up the World (ISUTW). This program was initiated as an effort to promote Indonesia’s rich cuisine and raise investment opportunities in local spices and herbs.

ISUTW is implemented through a collaboration between the government, businesses, and locals. Aimed specifically to bring Indonesia’s abundant spices and dishes to the forefront on the global stage, ISUTW is expected to boost the value of export for local spices to as high as 2,000,000 USD, as well as establish 4,000 Indonesian restaurants overseas by 2024.

The official launching of the program itself took place on the UAE National Day at the Indonesian Pavilion on November 4, 2020, during Dubai 2020 Expo. ISUTW was also launched as a way to showcase the excellence of Indonesia’s spices.

“The excellence of Indonesian spices should be introduced throughout the whole world. This can be achieved by carrying out the Indonesia Spice Up The World program,” stated Sandiaga Uno, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy of Indonesia.

Such is the mission of the four artists-Dayu Sartika, Linkan Palenewen, Luh'De Gita, and Sastia Naresvari-to present the results of their internalization or reflection on their experiences, memories, and imagination about themselves into the form of artworks.
Rumination of the Self, opened last Saturday, March 4, 2023 and is still open to the public until February 27, 2023 at Titik Dua Ubud, Jl. Cok Rai Pudak No.48, Peliatan, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency, Bali 80571.

Last Saturday (04/03), TAT Art Space once again enlivened the Denpasar art scene with another exhibition that was very different from the previous ones. With the theme

IN SEARCH FOR MEANING is the first published book by artist-photographer Felisa Tan. This striking collection covers most of her major work for the past fifteen years, many of which were never published before.

With her honest and clear observation both on an individual and universal context, Felisa's intricately layered and exceptionally loaded ways of looking at the world are sure to transport the viewer into the heart of childlike wonder and a lush infinite Universe. In this exhibition, whoever you are and wherever you find yourself as you pave your way in life, you are invited to look within and rediscover the timeless wisdom that has been here with you all along.

Once again, TAT Art Space succeeded in bringing the audience to play with themselves. IN SEARCH FOR MEANING by Felisa Tan is still open to the public until March 19, 2023 at TAT Art Space by The Ambengan Tenten, Jl. Imam Bonjol Gg. Rahayu no. 16A, Denpasar.
