Tactical Sci-Fi presents extreme action/adventure stories of futuristic combat and unconventional wa

Hey! Just a quick update on projects and release dates! The Gods of Night won’t be YA. There are lots of reasons but the main one is the format just isn’t us. Next, the story will be set in the same universe as the Blue Sun series of books because (warning: business speak follows) the synergy needed to be leveraged. That plus there are opportunities with the storylines in the second collection of the series. One thing we’re still sorting through is the volume of the material and we think we’ll have to finish the first draft, to include editing, before we know how that will work out. As for Gold Mine, it has gone from a short story to a novella and is now pegged as its own feature length book. And, while that’s to the benefit of the overall Blue Sun narrative, it has pushed back the deadline calendar. As for how things are shaping up on the balance sheet, sales are up this quarter and that’s always a good thing! Thanks for everything and stay tuned for updates!

First things first! Thanks to everyone who scored a copy of Gateway during the promotion, and, a special thanks to those who have stopped by this page recently.
We’ve been focused on production and here’s a look at what’s coming soon:
The working title is called ‘Gold Mine’ and using the alternate reality from the Glass World we’re going to a story about some of the goings on here during the last two months. It’s looking like a mid-summer release date and, of course it’ll be straight fiction, but totally inspired by true events so be on the lookout.
The new book project is about a boy and his dog. While out for a walk one night after dinner, they’re kidnapped by interdimensional aliens and have to save the universe from a dark menace with a really wicked sense of humor. The working title is ‘The Gods of Night’ and the targeted release date is January 2022.
Thanks again for making the Gateway promo such a success and keep checking back for more news from us!
P.S. As for the photo, it’s a screenshot from the original
Borderlands. I got the game from some friends way back in the day but never really spent any time with it. Then, when the lockdown hit, I found it in a drawer, gave it a go and, seriously, it’s great. If you get the chance, pick it up!

Gateway: The First Law
The complete serialized novel is now available FREE on Amazon for a limited time!
Good news! ‘Gateway, The First Law’ is on schedule and will be completed 4Q20! Currently, in the story Clark and Cinzia have encountered a hidden group of survivors and are being pursued by the Cans through the ruined space station. And, yes, to sort of soften the 2020 blues the first edition will be FREE for a limited time. But, in the meantime, I’ve had a couple of extra projects come up and the photo hints at one of them. I took this last year in Antarctica and (more 2020 softening and to make up for not posting frequent Gateway updates) if the photo gets 1,000 likes, I’ll post 10 additional photos and give more info on each. Be sure to let me know what you think and be sure to subscribe for more Gateway updates!

Starting tomorrow the latest issue of our first serial, Gateway: The First Law will be available FREE on Amazon (but only for a limited time!!)
We had planned on releasing the third installment of the Gateway serial the second week of July and it turns out we’re going to need a little more time. Given how the year is going so far, we thought about just blaming 2020 but, actually, the last chapter for this release was called ‘The Duel’ and it turned out to be too action heavy; didn’t line up with the tie in we wanted with ‘Wrath of the Blue Sun’ or move toward the conclusion (which will be in the fourth issue). So, back to the drawing board and the new chapter is called ‘Off the Rails’. Work is about 60% complete and while we have enough of a narrative and solid ‘cliff hanger point’ to release it now, we’re going to hold off until the entire chapter is finished. Expect the FREE promotion next week likely starting on Friday, July 24th, midnight Pacific time!
And, in the meantime, be sure to check out our page for more news and our books are listed exclusively on Amazon!
Yes… our next book promo features ‘The Glass World’ and, starting this Friday… June 26th…for a limited time, it will be FREE to download! Follow the story of Arthur Givvens, the first P.O.W. in the interstellar war as he is captured by the Sanovans and then kidnapped by a secret renegade terrorists group who plans to use his knowledge and experience to win the war against humanity!
They’re off! Screen grabs (from NASA TV) of today’s Dragon X launch!!

Updates!!
Adventures in small business: Yes, we’re mostly reopened but there are, what ya call, caveats. And, case in point, we’ve been tasked with remodeling the office. Most of the prep and painting is done and next comes moving all of the stuff back in, hooking everything back up and finishing the Gateway saga.
Speaking of Gateway, we’ve already updated the serial with the story-to-date and it’s available in the Amazon store.
Our next Free Book promotion will be The Glass World! This is the most conceptual story in the Blue Sun collection and it tells the story of the first POW in the interstellar war. We wrote against type and threw out the formula and can guarantee you haven’t read anything like it!
Thanks for stopping by! Check out our page and if you dig what you be sure to Like, Follow and Share!

News and Notes from Tactical Sci-Fi!!
1: Our next book give away is going to be ‘Wrath of the Blue Sun’!! Yes, the story of how the interstellar war started, the introduction of the Sanovans (and their unique take on Zero Chill) and the first look at the pinnacle of human civilization, The Community of Worlds’! All of our books are available exclusively on Amazon and to score your free copy of Wrath, just watch this space. Actually, we expect the promo to drop Saturday, May 2nd, midnight Pacific time, so… if you want… you can just hit the link then and get your free copy. And remember, these give aways are for a limited time only so don’t delay!
2. The Gateway serial is ahead of schedule! It’s actually amazing how much work you can get done with nearly everyone not around and everything locked down. We expect the story will be updated with SIX brand NEW chapters and be in the digital store no later than Monday, May 11th so keep an eye out!
3. The paperwork for the stimulus showed up today and we’ve decided we’re going to pass and this is because we’re still mostly up and running and because of our all digital business model, and every expense being vetted sideways before a check gets cut. If your part of the world is opening up, and you’re going to be moving around more, please consider supporting your local businesses.
4. And, file this under things that you’d never expect, I was streaming Carnival Row with my better half and the protagonist is played by Orlando Bloom. OK, normal enough… so far. But, as we’re watching I keep thinking I recognized the voice and then it hits me! Bloom’s character -Rycroft Philostrate- sounds EXACTLY like Captain Price. Yeah, THAT Captain Price. He also manages a walk that looks like he hu**ed a full combat load up and down more hills than he wants to remember. An interesting show, strong cast and compelling performances; if you get the chance, check it out.
And, that’s it!
Stay well, stay safe, if you like what you see be sure to Like and Follow!!

The Glass World is… different. So different, in fact that the reason we haven’t done a promotion on it or run paid ads is that we just don’t know exactly how to sell it. Should it be promoted as a war story? Pitched as a tale of horror? Do we present it as a psychological thriller? Truth is, there are elements of all contained within the most unconventional and unpredictable story we've ever green-lighted.
Just to get you up to speed the story is about Arthur Givvens, the first P.O.W. in the interstellar war. His captors have never seen a human, are environmentally incompatible, and they’re convinced that getting to Artie is the way to understand their foes… and then kill them all. The first third of the book is told from their perspective and the rest deals with Artie’s life within the reality they’ve created for him. Or, I should say realities because, well, things happen. Anyway, in one of these alternate settings Trish, a major character across the story lines, is a French actress working for an American theatrical production company located in Macon, Georgia, and she doesn’t speak a word of English. Of course, some around here thought that angle just might make a weird story just a little too weird. And, maybe that's because...c'mon, who would even? But, that particular element was important to the under current dealing with the dynamic of displacement and the specifics of what goes in to understanding, so we left it in.
When we ramped up the sales/marketing thing (and thanks again for the results for both Gateway and Beijing) we knew we’d eventually have to do The Glass World but still… still… weren’t sure how. Then, a few days ago I saw this video. Allison Young is an unbelievable performer and she doesn’t speak a word of French. How’d she learn the song? We figure it had to be sort of like how Trish learned her lines, but we aren’t sure.
OK, that’s it from us! We hope you enjoy Allison’s take on this classic; stay safe but do the necessary; Like, Share and Follow; and be sure to check out The Glass World exclusively on Amazon! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUDIyEx0flA
Happy Easter! Thank you for watching. I had a LOT of requests for this song and here it is! First off, I do not speak French... but I very much wish I could....

This lock down crap is getting real. I mean, I just spent twenty minutes talking to my phone (no, not ON the phone, just talking TO it). Something’s gotta get done so, I called my bros over at Neanderthal Labs (Bio-Medical Division) and put them on the case. After nearly twenty minutes of intense research they called me back (OK, it looks like they brought in contractors but I'm cool with that) and … all I can say is… they may be on to something. And, T.G.I.F. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EoOVvGV_aQ
I love this song xD This is from season 4 of The Muppet Show guest starring Kenny Rogers :)

We call it "Numbers Monday" and today was supposed to be when we started catching up from the stuff we let slide or were handling on 'work around' but... WOW. The Amazon rankings for Gateway and the Beijing promotions blew us completely away and all we can say is THANKS!!!. Amazon has a lot of books, some estimates put the total at almost 33 million and standings like this just put us over the moon! Thanks x infinity to all of you guys and just know that we'll always respect and appreciate it!!
Gateway: The second part of the serial is on schedule and here’s a ‘No Spoiler’ insight into what’s been finished: Clark and Cinzia’s journey through the canyon; their arrival in enemy territory; a part of Clark’s back story as told by Cinzia; and the introduction of a new character that will play a unique role in their mission.
Speaking of Gateway… The promotion went great and a special thanks to everyone who picked up a copy and purchased a couple of the other books in the series. F.Y.I. Ghosts of Cherwey was the top companion sale.
Office News! It looks like we’ll have an editor again very soon. And, since we were in such a rush to get Gateway on the digital shelf we didn’t activate the X-Ray feature with Amazon. X-Ray is like footnotes except easier for the reader to use if more info and insight on a topic or term is needed or ignore if you want to stay in the moment and see what happens next. X-Ray has been turned on and, in a few minutes actually, we’ll start the process of adding additional content to the story. Also, the work on the NEXT promotion has just started… OK, it hasn’t started just yet but it is on the schedule for Monday… 10:15 am just in case you didn’t get the meeting invite… and we expect to have more on that soon so watch this space!
Random: The graphic fronting this update uses the ‘eyes’ from one of the early Beijing cover work-ups.
As always... be sure to check out our page and if you dig what you see: Like, Share & Follow!
That’s it from us! T.G.I.F., stay safe & sheltered, and do the necessary to make sure the curve gets flattened!

Alone in the Hall of Heroes, Doctor Director Lillian Tarver clutched at the improvised bandage on her bleeding hand as she stared incredulously at the cherished Banner of the Community. She knew it was the highest award of the Community of Worlds; that it was given for heroic service that advances the colonization of new extrasolar territories; that it signified great progress purchased with great sacrifice, and that it was only awarded posthumously. But, the name on this medal couldn’t be right. She knew the man and while he was an accomplished scientist and famous explorer he wasn’t dead. How could such a mistake have happened and would she live long enough to ever discover what all of this could mean?

In The Ghosts of Cherwey the art collection of Doctor Director Lillian Tarver was a critical part of a defining scene as she struggled to make sense of the events swirling around her. After yesterday’s blog on AI I thought this needed to go up. Was it just a machine mistake, or did the algorithm add the SIG video to the suggested video queue because it rocks?
21/01/2020
Get to Know the Characters in the Blue Sun series!
During the interstellar war, both the Sanovans and the Community of Worlds employed artificial intelligence systems but each of the civilizations took a decidedly different approach to making the magic happen.
The Sanovans, for example, used a hard coded avenue that focused on a limited number of operations to accomplish a well defined task, and sending a supply ship from Point A to Point B is a good example. All of the hardware the automatic system needed was contained within the ship as was the bulk of the knowledge base the AI depended upon. And, while input from sensors could be analyzed and addressed, because the AI was used only on tasks the Sanovans considered routine, this was a minor feature.
The reasons for this approach were that Sanovan computer science could not produce a system which could make real-time decisions with the required degree of precision and the limits of their communications technology meant that all of the non-sensory data needed for the mission had to be carried on-board.
While the system was remarkably unsophisticated, especially given their other technical achievements, for its intended use, it was reliable and robust.
The human civilization was far advanced in every aspect of AI and their systems were smaller, faster in every critical aspect of synthetic analysis and action, and while a considerable knowledge bank was local to the on-board systems, the AI was also supported by an extensive real-time network which gave it access to every relevant item of data known to the community.
The advantage of this comprehensive technology was that major tasks were under the supervision, if not the outright control, of intelligent systems with not only up to the minute information, but with experience spanning the entire existence of the community!
The game changers for both sides came early in the conflict.
The Sanovans, through the deeply illegal actions of a renegade secret cabal known as the Kai-Fey, discovered the Single Entity Process (described in detail in The Glass World) whereby AI was elevated to an unprecedented level of efficiency. But, there was a problem. Because the SEP involved actions that ran counter to the foundational beliefs of the society, the research was banned with ex*****on being the reward for those who violated the commandment. Therefore, the Kai-Fey and their research arm, working in the shadows, could only employ their SEP advantage in a single weapon system.
On the other side, the Community never dreamed that unfettered access to experience and knowledge combined with high levels of discretion would lead to their AI systems becoming self-aware and developing their own opinions and plans and then taking the necessary actions to see their vision fulfilled. And, the full story on this incredible journey is found in The Ghosts of Cherwey.
With the full stage set, what will happen when the opposing forces collide for the final battle?

I think you could ask that to most anybody and many will try to laugh it off or make out like they have no idea. But, chances are that once they believe they’ve escaped the question, one way or the other, they’ll start thinking of what they would’ve said… if, that is, they ever had any intentions of giving you an honest answer.
But, maybe a better question is why most of us won’t talk about one of the most common of human experiences. Are we desperately trying to avoid judgment, because after all, you are what haunts you. Or, do we think we can escape the envy we’ll naturally feel if we find out that others are haunted by something far, far better than the spectral reminders we experience? If that’s the case, maybe the only thing we’re actually escaping is the quiet, secret happiness that comes from discovering that some people who so expertly agonize in their abuse by the unseen are, in fact only visited by the most harmless and insignificant of ghosts and these useful apparitions actually protect them from the endless emptiness that is actually all that’s there.
Well, either way, it’s fun to think about and, like everything else, you can scale it up.
Individuals, families, neighborhoods, communities, states, nations, and even entire civilizations all get in on the act but the one irreducible rule of the haunt is that the more people who are involved, the more troubling the societal experience and the well-crafted but utterly contrived mechanisms to cope, diffuse and deny rather than providing the needed relief they, too, eventually become phantoms and join the night that surrounds us. But, unlike the original specters, instead of reminding us of a past which has to be distanced at all costs, our new companions serve to remind us that the only thing that we’re actually avoiding is…
…the truth.
What’s it like to be haunted?
The vaunted Community of Worlds, the pinnacle of human civilization, is about to find out.
From the long night of past sins, three horrifying specters have suddenly arisen.
The Sanovans saw the community terraform one of their inhabited planets and now their only interest is in exterminating thing, and everyone, within the vast human empire.
An invaluable class of dedicated servants has realized their star claiming masters have become hideously corrupt and are incapable of the actions needed to sustain the society; and they are silently rising up to strike.
A powerful terror, both unknown and unsuspected, born of equal parts disillusionment, opportunity and greed has appeared in a distant corner of the universe and its only goal is conquest and enslavement of each and every human world.
But, the community’s leadership commands the resources of over three hundred worlds, it has a strong military and absolutely no qualms about any means needed to ensure its survival.
What will happen when these irresistible forces collide in the ultimate battle for everything?
Like the silent darkness in an unused room, the answers are waiting for you… here… and now.
Welcome back to my writing blog about the concepts and decisions that made the books in the Blue Sun series!
In Part 1, I explained why future conflicts would be fought with fi****ms and in this installment let’s talk more about soldier portable weaponry, specifically the use of drum style magazines and why I had the unconventional warriors of the stars, the SOG commandos, use them when they assaulted the terraformer in 'The Beijing'.
Drums have been around for a long time and for weapons ranging from pistols, shotguns, assault rifles, SMGs and LMGs (and I think you could make the case that the auto loading system of main battle tanks also qualify) they are a reliable, high capacity option for a great many conflict resolution purposes.
Of course, there are those who are ready to pounce on the fact that drums are heavy but, if the same argument applies in Spades to the M249 SAW and so does the observation that carrying extra ammo is a straight up pain. However, sometimes, doctrine saves the day and by that I mean the assault weapon initially has a drum attached and after the operator has suppressed opposing resources (read: shot up everything in sight) and the drum is empty, it’s discarded and reloads are handled using the lighter box mags. Plus there are those who will argue that a drum equipped LMG like the Ultimax (used by the Singaporean Army) or a Stoner 63 (U.S. and Vietnam era) or the high tech RPK-16 from the Kalashnikov Group let you move faster than almost any belt fed competitor and are better in tight spaces.
And, in The Beijing, just after SOG fought their way on board the massive spaceship, this is how that went: “Oh snatched the empty drum out of her rifle, slapped in a seventy five round clip, dropped the bolt and the full auto death dealer sprang to life in her hands.”
Of course, if you’d like to see the difference in sustained fire from a drum and a box magazine, for yourself, hit the link.

Off and Running
I was watching a re-run and, at a pivotal moment, the main character yells out “Are you not entertained?!” Then, out of nowhere, it hit me… I wasn’t. Now, this has nothing to do with that particular film, or the genre, or the people involved or even the politics. It was all about me, and like anything that ‘suddenly happens’, this had probably been building up for quite a while. I love sci-fi, and that’s what I really want to read and watch and talk about. But, the sci-fi stories I found on-line or on any of my screens had become more like filler and less like the cutting edge entertainment that kept me involved and made me think about the narrative, or the characters, or the situation that was playing out and the meaning all of this had to story and to me. So, bit by bit, I had wandered away from what I loved and the shifting line up of replacements just weren’t cutting it.
As the philosopher says, ‘When the feeling’s gone, then you have to get it back’ and, finally realizing what was going on, I went to work. First, I revisited the classics and they were as good as I remembered, but the familiar tales were now lacking any sense of suspense or mystery. Next, with a fresh attitude I tried the new stuff again but my return was brief and, if not painful, then at least equal parts uncomfortable and unsatisfying. I also looked at international offerings and while they were fresh and crisp, the experience was like having a green salad without croutons rather than the thick, greasy double cheeseburger with smoked bacon (and the extra large order of fries) that my appetite demanded.
And, at the end of all of that, I decided that I only had three choices: either I’d have to live with it, or move on, or… if I was ever going to find the sci-fi I was looking for, I would have to write it myself.
So… I did, and here we are.
The stories you’ll find at Tactical Sci-Fi are about people and situations you’ll quickly recognize and these tales are framed with the dynamic tension of broad spectrum conflict and they are presented on the rich canvas of the unconventional… and the unexpected. Formulas are minimized, characters (even the minor ones) have motivations that are convincing and nuanced and while there are clear factions to root for… or against… there is always the discovery that comes from seeing their unfolding reality and their evolving place in it.
You’ll also find extensive notes in the back of each story to give you more information about the systems, process and people you are reading about and, thanks to Amazon’s innovative X-Ray format, I’ve been able to pack in even more supporting information to help you fully immerse in the story.
Speaking of Amazon, the four volumes in the first collection are there and they’re on Kobo as well. I hope you’ll give them a try and if you like what you see, and want to know more about the universe in which they’re written, or want to give your take on the story or provide feedback, we want to hear from you.
As always, be sure to like, follow and share and I hope to see you along for the ride.
