Nightwalker (An AI Experiment)

Jumping on the AI bandwagon!

This is not a 70-second Film production, but I thought I'd include it here.

There's been so much in the news around the potential (and hysteria) for AI, I thought I'd take a look at what was out there, having never really taken much of an interest. I watched a few videos on YouTube and there was one guy talking about using various platforms, either free or demo, to combine them all and make a short film. So, I thought I'd experiment and give it a go.

This story has been around for quite a number of years, so the concept and idea is my own, nothing to do with AI. I'd actually started filming stuff before we left Brisbane several years ago, but it had come to nothing.

ChatGPT gave me a screenplay and shot-list based on my synopsis, plus a style, duration, etc. Using some of the suggestions, I created prompts for Gen-2 to generate video footage, this turned out to be the most difficult aspect. I wrote some dialog and generated a voiceover using ElevenLabs, based on one of their pre-made voices. Music was created using Beatoven. I then threw it all together and created this.

70-second Films - Mitchell (2021 Outback Road Trip)

A couple of years back, I packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

Mitchell is a small rural town in Queensland about 600km west of Brisbane. It's quite a nice little town on the banks of the Maranoa River, originally established in the mid-1800s, with the Warrego Highway and the Western Railway passing through it. It is said that the indigenous inhabitants, the Mandandanji and Gunggari people, have lived in the area for around 19,500 years, with the descendants of the original peoples still living there.

A couple of years back, I packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

Blackwater is a mining town in Central Queensland. I'm sure it's a nice town for the inhabitants, but I couldn't really find much to photograph, until I happened upon the Lions Park. I've always been a fan of trains and railways in general, so this was a bit of a bonus.

70-second Films - Augathella (2021 Outback Road Trip)

A couple of years back, I packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

This is a little town called Augathella on the banks of the Warrego River in Western Queensland, population around 400. Maybe the town has seen better days, but there are a number of heritage listed sites, including the post office, town hall, and water tower, as well as a historical bushranger saga. It has been the setting for films and songs in the past.

70-second Films - Charleville (2021 Outback Road Trip)

A couple of years back, I packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

This is a little town called Charleville, which is the ending point of the Warrego Highway, one of the major transport routes from Brisbane to Western Queensland, and the terminus of the Western railway line. The town was established in 1865, with a hotel and the Post Office being some of the earliest buildings constructed in that year. The town is now the base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

70-second Films - Wyandra (2021 Outback Road Trip)

A couple of years back, I packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

This is a small town called Wyandra in Western Queensland, with a population of a hundred or so at the last census. It even has its own beach! Originally a railway settlement, the line was closed some years ago. Even with such a small population, there's still the Gladstone Hotel, and the Post Office doubles as a caravan park and café (good burgers!).

70-second Films - Yaraka (2021 Outback Road Trip)

A couple of years back, packed the tent and went for a drive with no destination in mind except to see some sights and go visit some places I'd never been.

This is a little little place called Yaraka, which is a rural town and locality in western Queensland, basically in the middle of nowhere with a population of around 20. It was the terminus of the Yaraka branch railway line which opened in 1917 and was officially closed in October 2005. These days, it's known mostly for it's Hotel and the news a few years back about a couple of emus that were frequenting it causing trouble.

This is a place called Ilfracombe in Western Queensland, most known for it's 'machinery mile', a collection of old farm machinery in a 'museum' type setting at the side of the road going through town..
