Looks like the five-star digs at the forthcoming St. Regis Residences, Miami in Brickell won’t be any of the development’s penthouses, but rather its two standalone garden villas, one of which will feature 10,000 square feet of space across four floors. Recently released for sale, the single-family pad will offer five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two powder rooms, an open chef’s kitchen with Italian millwork, and a roof deck with pool overlooking Biscayne Bay. The villa also includes a private garage, a windowed service suite, and an internal elevator. Plus, there’s access to all the good-life amenities the 50-story tower from developers Related Group and Integra Investments plans to offer—50,000 square feet of everything from a spa to a full-size pickleball court. The asking price? $32 million.

Wallcoverings purveyor Orlean has a new, larger location at 3650 N. Miami Avenue in the Miami Design District. “We moved for a couple of reasons,” explains sales executive Darren Schopperle. “Our street became heavily focused on retail clothing, and we wanted to be near other interior design businesses. Plus, our new space has wonderful natural light, which has been much better for our clients to view and make selections.” The new 2,000-square-foot showroom offers collections from Grandeco, Texam Wallmasters, Janelli & Volpi, Alta Gamma, Prestige Wallcoverings, Mahieu, and others. New for summer 2024: a range of neutral wallcoverings guaranteed to always be in stock and available for local delivery within two days.

When Peter and Fabiola Spooner began to envision a business venture in New Smyrna Beach that would reflect their love of design and hospitality, a historic B&B never crossed their minds. Yet, as soon as they set eyes on the Victoria Estate, a nearly 200-year-old house surrounded by ancient oak trees on the banks of the Indian River, they knew they had a chance to be part of something special. Built in 1883 by Edmund Kirby Lowd and his wife Victoria (two of New Smyrna Beach’s earliest residents), the estate has had an interesting trajectory as a private residence, an inn, and an assisted living facility. After much research into its past and legacy, the Spooners decided a traditional B&B was the best way to go and the Victoria’s extensive 17-month renovation began. “When thinking about how best to present the experience of the property, preserving and honoring the past was top of mind,” says Fabiola. “But we wanted to tell that story through a modern lens.”

💡 The right shade can make all the difference. Case in point: the new Pale Rose collection by Louis Poulsen. Made up of classic designs by Poul Henningsen and Vilhelm Lauritzen, the new line features mouthblown glass in a subtle pink hue that’s sandblasted white underneath to ensure a pleasant, glare-free warm light. The frames in the pieces are made of brushed brass, which, if left unpolished, will patinate beautifully over time. In Naples, the collection is available exclusively at the Soft Square showroom at 3078 Tamiami Trail North.

When he set about creating a new outdoor collection of furniture for Design Within Reach, designer Gabriel Tan couldn’t get the images of islands he’d traveled to out of his head. The result of said inspiration is now on display at the DWR showroom in the Miami Design District in the form of Softlands, a collection comprised of sofas, chaises, loungers, and tables. True to its name, Softlands offers comfortable silhouettes via pieces elegantly crafted of teak, woven rope, and ceramic stone.

There are as many stories about the inspiration for Andy Warhol’s “Campbell’s Soup Cans” (1962) as there are iterations of the work itself, which began with an original set of 32 canvases and then evolved into drawings, sketches, stencils, and screen prints over the years. A screen print on paper from that universe titled “New England Clam Chowder” leads the charge in “Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop,” a new exhibition at The Baker Museum in Naples. Made possible with works from the Bank of America Collection, the show examines Warhol as one of the central figures of the Pop art movement and his acquired fame through painting, sculpture, filmmaking, publishing, and printmaking, which was always a central part of his art. The Baker grouping includes rare complete portfolios and individual prints by Warhol, starting with iconic works from the 1960s to the series of monoprints titled “Vesuvius,” which were created in 1985 and depict his take on the volcanic mountain’s lifechanging eruption in 79 AD. The show runs through September 8.

This year marks the centennial of surrealism and 100 years since French writer and critic André Beton published the “Surrealist Manifesto,” a collection of writings that outlines the art movement’s tenets and intent. While the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, dedicated to one of surrealism’s most famous masters, celebrates the movement every day with a permanent collection of more than 2,400 Salvador Dalí works, that didn’t stop its curatorial team from creating an exhibition to commemorate the centennial. “Reimagining Nature: Dalí’s Floral Fantasies” focuses on prints created late in Dalí’s career, as well as a selection of paintings incorporating botanical imagery. “Dalí dedicated much of his life to achieving visual transformation,” says show curator Peter T**h. “The works in this exhibition demonstrate his uncanny ability to see and think differently, and to discover the unexpected.” The exhibition runs through October 20.

Treasure can be fleeting, sometimes crumbling in your hands or shattering in misstep. That’s true in life, as well as in art, insists Sarasota-based ceramicist Anja Palombo, who spends her days covered in clay creating sculptural pieces of porcelain and stoneware. With her surroundings for inspiration and thoughts for company, Palombo considers what is possible as she pulls the clay taller or forms hollow spaces in the slippery medium before it hardens in the kiln, adjusting the firing temperatures to achieve the finish she desires. “You can’t get too attached,” she says. “Pottery is a character-building activity.”

Based in the area since 2013, artist Amy Moglia Heuerman has established a loyal following in Naples with her impasto approach to abstract impressionism. She begins each painting with a coat of cadmium red, which imparts a warm glow. As she applies more colors, her imaginative shapes emerge when those shades collide and bleed into each other, resulting in vibrant canvases informed by the Gulf Coast’s natural landscapes. These days, Heuerman’s paintings have a new home. Last year, the artist decided to close her gallery on 10th Street South after four years of operation in favor of a more dynamic, larger space at 950 First Avenue North in the Naples Design District. After a six-month, floor-to-ceiling renovation that expanded the exhibit space and created separate sections for a reception area, a salon-style living room, a working studio for the artist, and a large alcove, the new gallery is ready for visitors with a 50-painting showcase of Heuerman’s signature abstracts and “Girls” series. “I’m more committed to Naples than ever before,” says Heuerman, “and I have exciting plans for this new space.”

True organization can be a fleeting feature in our homes. How many times have we spent days establishing order (in a closet, a kitchen, the office...) only to see it crumble into chaos later? For tidiness to last, a system needs to be in place. That’s where Ornare’s new Timeless collection comes in. Introduced at the spring 2024 edition of Salone, the line is a godsend for everything-in-its-proper-place types. Conceived by artistic director Vivian Coser and Studio Ornare CEO Murillo Schattan, and made of certified solid wood, Timeless offers ergonomically smart systems that cover the wardrobe (Timeless Closet and Timeless Rack), grooming and primping (Timeless Beauty), socializing at home (Timeless Bar), and one-off features to enhance certain areas of the house: the Timeless Edge Desk for the office and the Timeless Island for the kitchen. “The Timeless collection portrays a design full of presence,” says Claudio Faria, Ornare Miami’s CEO. “It’s a sober line that will last for generations.”

Clive and Daniel Lubner, the father-and-son team behind the Clive Daniel Home brand of furnishings, have been Fort Myers residents for nearly four decades, and the Gulf Coast city has been the location of their company’s warehouses and corporate headquarters since its inception. Until just recently, however, Fort Myers lacked a proper Clive Daniel Home showroom. “Some will call it a homecoming,” says Daniel about the new CDH store at 8650 Gladiolus Drive, the latest debut in the company’s ongoing expansion. “This 48,000-square-foot location was a natural fit for us. We have a significant number of clients in Fort Myers, Fort Myers Beach, and the islands, so having a nearby showroom will make it that much easier for them to work with our products and designers.” Like the company’s other existing stores in Naples, Boca Raton, and Sarasota, this fourth iteration offers an exclusive selection of furniture, lighting, rugs, and window treatments—plus some surprising extras. “Since the building we selected used to house a supermarket, we’ve retained some of those elements and incorporated a chef’s table for special events,” adds Daniel. “It’s a beautiful space and we hope it delivers endless inspiration and resources to our customers.”

Studio Dado, a Coral Gables design firm that specializes in ship design, and Omexco, a Belgian brand of eco-friendly wallcoverings with 48 years on the market, may appear to have nothing in common, but the two companies recently joined creative forces. The sum of that effort is Rivage, a collection of wallcoverings inspired by “the intertwining forces of nature, artistic expression, and the playful interaction between land and water.” Among the patterns in the line are Marina, which resembles carved woodwork, Harmony, marked by its slightly raised structure, and Allure, a motif of textured tonal stripes. The wallcoverings are PVC-free and bleach cleanable.

In the last 20 years, ceramicist and designer Molly Hatch has made a name for herself by creating installations of ceramic plates that connect cultures and eras with abstract patterns and motifs. Her latest works will be unveiled this spring at the Sarasota Art Museum with the debut of “Amalgam” a site-specific “plate painting” that takes up two floors of wall space at the Jan Schmidt Loggia and Mark & Irene Kauffman Arcade. The colossal installation consists of 450 earthenware plates that have been hand- painted in white, blue, and gold featuring imagery from various historical periods and countries (from 15th century Ming dynasty China to 18th century Mexico). The whole composition may be experienced from near and far, inside and outside of the museum. The exhibition runs through April 26, 2026.

Attention, tech heads and kitchen lovers: The new BSH Home Appliances showroom in the Miami Design District has your name written all over it. The 8,000-square-foot showroom at the Design 41 building (112 NE 41st Street) features a so-called Experience & Design Center that allows builders, designers, architects, and mere interested mortals a chance to preview appliances from Bosch, Thermador, and Gaggenau—and by preview we mean di**le and engage with them before deciding whether to make the financial investment. Among the appliances on-site are dishwashers, ovens, ranges, cooktops, microwaves, warming drawers, refrigerators, washers and dryers, and built-in coffee machines.

If location is indeed the first rule of real estate, then a newly constructed home built on speculation near the legendary Naples Beach Club is set to be a winner. The 6,000-square- foot residence on South Golf Drive was designed to be a restful retreat. With just two paint colors and a proliferation of woods and other natural textures, interior designer Megan Hickman of Freestyle Interiors set out to create a “a different home for Naples with an organic feel and warm tones.”

For all that Florida offers its residents, laborious upkeep is the last thing a homeowner wants. The elements, however, have a way of leaving their mark over time. One local builder took steps to minimize the impact of Florida’s harsh sun and torrential rains, and then partnered with a talented interior designer to deliver a residence as perfectly suited for our subtropical environment as modern technology would allow. Said structure is a 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom house in Naples’ Park Shore community built on speculation by Borelli Construction using only concrete and metal. Within five days of being listed, the place was purchased by a local couple. “The house is very low maintenance,” says Parker Borelli, president of Borelli Construction, “and the building materials substantially influenced the design.” Beyond the nuts and bolts of the construction, the home’s layout evokes a sense of coastal comfort that all has to do with the work of interior designer Randi Scott, owner and principal designer of R & Co. Designs. Borelli gave Scott and associate interior designer Cristina Manguso great leeway in the finishing details. “Randi is very talented,” says Borelli. “She is really good at making a house turnkey and adding touches that are special.”

A former New Jersey couple landed a sure thing when they happened upon on a spec property in Bonita Bay’s dreamy Woodlake community. Jan and Brent Glading had vacationed in Southwest Florida since the 1990s and purchased a home in another neighborhood in 2008. But when the pandemic hit, they started searching for a more permanent residence where they could play golf and pickleball, and their adult kids could hang out with their friends. “Although Bonita Bay checked all our boxes, we prioritized finding the perfect house,” says Janet. “We knew we had found ‘the one’ after looking at it more than once on different websites. As it turned out, the project was in the early stages, and we purchased it when it was just a slab.” A collaboration between Curtis Gunther of Imperial Homes of Naples and interior designer Sherie Weidner of Clive Daniel Home, the 5,076-square-foot estate sits on a pie-shaped lot 200 feet from a lake. This freshwater reserve provides a natural habitat for wildlife and an ample buffer between neighbors across the waterway. The original floor plan was conceptualized to take advantage of the lake frontage, offering exceptional views from every primary space.

Although they never outright specified that they wanted bold, contrasting moments within otherwise understated spaces, interior designers Kim Collins and Alina Dolan surmised that is exactly what the new homeowners of a lakefront home in Mediterra wanted after just one conversation with them. The couple did express a wish to incorporate many of their existing furnishings and artworks, however, so that the team from Collins DuPont Design Group in Bonita Springs had a good foundation to work with. And although the 16-year-old, 4,700-square-foot property had good bones, the designers knew some reconstruction would be needed to get it current. “We considered the clients’ personalities, likes, interests, and needs,” says Collins, “and we decided that a soft Zen undertone was the best design approach for the house.”

10/05/2024

The irresistible charm of Florida’s Gulf Coast is not a joke. After spending just one weekend in Naples, Karen and Forrest Robinson decided to make the city their retirement destination. Native Southerners who have lived in Atlanta, Miami, and Tampa, they fell in love with the tranquility of the area, the pristine nature of the community, and the gorgeous white-sand beaches. They admired the condominiums lining the coast paralleling Grand Boulevard, which shares access to a stretch of parks along the beach, boasting green lawns, manicured palms, and bunnies hopping about at dusk and dawn. Before they knew it, the couple purchased a condo at the Solamar, and Forrest soon found his place on the HOA board. They made great friends, settled into a supper club, and were quite happy—then a listing for an apartment at the Aria at Park Shore building right next door popped into their lives. “The penthouse at Aria was as special as it was unusual,” says Janie Wilburn of The Jane Group, who had met the couple when designing their daughter’s Atlanta home. “The construction on the unit was never completed, and it was never occupied, but the Robinsons had to see it—in a way no one should go see the neighbor’s puppies with the intention of not taking one home.”
