[MSU Congress]

As my final post, rather of talking about the two volunteering travel that I'll get more into once elected, this time I'll talk about the more day-to-day projects that I wish to bring into the Mari everyday life!

COOKING SESSIONS

Due to multiple factors such as global warming, overpopulation and the industrial breeding of animals, many people are opting for the more eco-friendly diet that is veganism. Many are even consuming insect-based foods, an idea that may at first sound disgusting, but is one of those "don't knock it till you've tried it!" things. As such, I'd like to incorporate a monthly Cook-a-thon, where people learn to make such recipes and expand their culinary palate. In collaboration with this idea, I would also like to organize cooking events (most likely at the end of a month) where we collect produce that would be otherwise thrown away and make meals to donate to homeless shelters. This activity would both help the environment and raise awareness on different issues that our planet is dealing with right now!

CONTESTS

Being at Mari, I'm sure that many of you possess an innate competitive spirit and maybe some of y'all were that one crazy person that would be too emotionally invested in a class Kahoot (not trying to point fingers at anyone but u guys know who u are), which is why I'd like to take advantage of this opportunity to organize Kahoots on world issues throughout the year (with prizes, of course). The goal of this is to spread awareness on a wide range of topics, whether it's about climate change or on world geography! I'm also proposing a crafting contest where people will only be allowed to use recycled material.

You've may have noticed that all of those ideas seem to revolve around one common theme: the environment. Like many of you guys, protecting the environment and living a green lifestyle as best as I can have always been one of my life goals. Unfortunately, as important as helping the Earth is, it doesn't seem to get the attention it deserves, which is why I will do my best to make Mari as eco-friendly as possible if I get elected!

VOTING

Voting will start on this Sunday the 8th, at 0:00, until Monday the 9th, at 16:00 on Omnivox under Surveys. Make sure to support me, and as thanks, here are some memes!

[MSU CONGRESS]

Hello again fellow Marianopolis alumni!!

Tomorrow (Thursday, September 5th) is a very special day! All candidates running in the current election will assist a (possibly heated) debate during activity period at the Student lounge. Come assist our discussion and choose the candidate YOU want in our MSU Congress!

As I've promised, here are some more details about my goals and ideas.

VOLUNTEER TRAVEL

Yuan Ding, the executive member of the Marianopolis Free The Children and I have chosen to collaborate and plan a humanitarian trip for the near future. The exact destination is to confirm, but Indigenous reserves will be our main focus. As some of you may or may not know, the WE organization values the growth and empowerment of the Natives as one of its missions. The Indigenous Relations team encourages both youth and adults on a journey of social change throughout action-based experience and holistic learning. Our main goal will be to organize a trip to a Canadian Native reserve, where Marianopolis students will be able to closely interact with the habitants through a series of different activities to help develop leadership skills and to build a sense of belonging and confidence. Although Quebec's relations with its Indigenous people is relatively peaceful, there is still a long way to go and many issues, such as a high rate of unemployment within the reserves, need to be resolved.

For more information on this, I invite you to visit Free The Children's main website: https://www.we.org/en-CA

The environment is also a huge concern of mine, and although there are many volunteering and charity club for humanitarian purposes within our school (which I am totally for), there is still much to be done for the environment. Thus, another big project of mine that would be completed were I to be elected would be to organize an environmental volunteering trip in collaboration with our school's Green Team and the Projects-Abroad Organization. I have already started to discuss with a club executive and a member of the organization. While further planification is much needed, my goal right now would be to organize a school trip to Mexico, where students will be working with conservation experts at a local ecological center. In Mexico, turtles are under threat; the goal of the volunteering alumni will be to move nests to protected corrals, and then release hatchlings safely into the ocean. They will also help preserve the biodiversity of the surrounding area by doing scientific studies and working with crocodiles and iguanas. The data collected will be used by researchers across the Americas.

[MSU ELECTIONS]

"-why do you want to run for Coordinator of Charities and Volunteering?
-what will you bring to the school if you're elected?"

These are questions that many of you may have thought about, and that's perfectly normal!

I've always loved the idea of helping others just for the sake of helping and I feel like there isn't and will never be enough good across the world that we live in. During my high school years, I've always tried my best to join volunteering clubs and participate in their numerous activities. This year, I want to encourage more people to sign up for volunteering opportunities and for this, my goal is to make volunteering, fundraisers and charities more accessible to Marianopolis students. There are so many amazing clubs at our school dedicated to helping others, and they deserve so much more coverage.

If I'm elected, I will do my best to put as many volunteering clubs as I can in the spotlight and I will wholeheartedly support each and everyone of them! To ensure successful fundraisers, an idea that I support would be alliance between different clubs.
One of my other goals is to also integrate humanitarian trips to the school in possible collaboration with other clubs. My dream is to collaborate with Programs-Abroad, an organization dedicated to volunteering trips and that caters to high school and university students. More details on that later!

You may have noticed the logo on this page's profile picture (completely hand drawn!) The handshake conveys trust, respect, balance, and equality. Notice how one hand has the spectrum of the human skin tones while the other is dyed rainbow. This is to symbolise that we are all in peace with each other, no matter the differences we may have. The logos drawn around represents the different organizations I have reached and kept in contact with: do you recognize any?

*DISCLAIMER: to those who follow me on one or more platform (or just people in this group) and that might get annoyed with the multiple posts that I will be publishing on my social media accounts this upcoming week, my deepest and sincerest apologies. I am aware of the frustration I might provoque this week, and I will try to keep my publications as short as possible. Thank you!*
(she says while typing out this insanely long post)
With this aside, for those that don’t know me, my name is Herrinah Zhang, I’m a first-year student in the Honours (oof) Health Program and I’m running as a candidate for the poste of Coordinator of Charities and Volunteering!
To promote my campaign, I’ve made some DIY tiny (and free) notebooks that I will be distributing throughout the week! I’ll be handing out only nine of them tomorrow, but I will make more according to the demand. Comment down below if you’re interested in owning one!
Last point (yes, I promise!) don’t forget to check out my poster which will be hung in the A-100 corridor tomorrow morning!
Thank you for staying with me until the end!
^attached are the notebooks and my poster^
