This radio show style podcast was originally intended as a one-off vehicle to promote my freshly published book, ‘Crucified, Life in a Skinhead Band’ (available on paperback from lulu.com or ebook from Amazon), but it proved to be far too much fun to leave it at that, so with 21 episodes now under my belt, the show is still going strong, albeit periodic.
Originally the idea was to simply play some of my favourite tunes and talk about any old thing that came to mind, but then over time, I used the Bunker to promote new stuff and I began to talk more freely about some of the crazy s**t I read about on nefarious websites and in books stolen from the vaults of the Vatican, some of it tongue in cheek based on half truths and legend, some of it not so, I’ll leave you to pick the bones out of it and decide for yourself which is which. If the show is loosely bound by anything at all, then I would have to say that the music of the skinhead scene is the glue that holds all the various component parts together, but I play and I say, whatever I want, whether part of the scene or not. I am an old school bloke from London, south of the river, and while the skinhead scene and its music has been the backdrop of my life, it’s not the complete picture of who I am! What I mean is, this show is not your two-bob dot to dot skinhead thing, if you came looking for that, there’s every chance you’ll be disappointed. This show is simply a sojourn into a dark and increasingly deranged place known as my mind and anything you find there is better left where it is!
The name the show adopted after the first episode or two is a self-parody of how I see myself becoming as the years pass me by. I feel increasingly detached from modern society and politics, I feel that the older I get, the angrier I get with the crazy world around me and my distrust of ‘the man and his minions’ grows deeper by the day. I have become the archetypal so-called conspiracy theorist, just call me nut job Roper! I am Dale Gribble from King of the Hill, building my very own imaginary bunker and I take it down deeper and deeper the more I look into the rabbit hole of alternative truths, ideas and mythos, the kind of stuff that would see Mulder and Skully running a mile! So I have hypothetically gone to ground, or should I say below ground, three miles beneath southern England to be precise! Oh, and one more thing; NO TARQUINS! One more thing! I am not a wealthy bloke by any stretch of the imagination, so consequently the equipment I use to do this is old and outdated and in all honesty not really fit for purpose. Now I fully understand that the majority of listeners to this radio show will be struggling working class types just like myself, but, just in case you are a minted doing really rather well type of person, a donation towards an equipment upgrade would be received with utmost gratitude and thanks.
