Catalysis Caught the Nobel Prize This Time.
The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the 2021 Nobel Prize in Chemistry to Benjamin List of the Max-Planck Institute, Germany, and David W.C. MacMillan from Princeton University, USA for the development of asymmetric organocatalysis. ScholarX Publishing would like to congratulate the new Nobel Laureates for their great contributions.

The 2021 Nobel Prize in Physics goes to Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann, and Giorgio Parisi for their groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of complex physical systems. One half of the prize is awarded jointly to Syukuro Manabe, and Klaus Hasselmann for the physical modelling of Earth’s climate, quantifying variability and reliably predicting global warming” and the other half to Giorgio Parisi for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary scales. Dr. Pramod Avti, Associate Professor, Department of Biophysics, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India was a research associate at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering Divisions, Laboratory of Molecular Imaging, Ecole Polytechnique and Department of Chemistry, McGill University, Montreal. He was a postdoctoral associate at the Department of Biomedical Engineering, Ecole Polytechnique, and Montreal Heart Institute, Montreal, and also a postdoctoral fellow at the Departments of Biomedical Engineering, Stony Brook University, New York, USA. He has earned many national and international awards for his research in developing innovative nano-bio-materials as platforms for a variety of biomedical applications – Translational and Molecular Imaging award, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, and Young Investigator Travel Award. Best reviewer Award, to name a few. He published more than 90 peer-reviewed high-impact international research articles, reviews, books, and book chapters. He is an active reviewer since 2010 for more than 30 international journals in the field of Biomedical Engineering, Material Science, Nanotechnology, Nanomedicine, Biomaterials, Biomedical optics, Tissue Engineering, Chemistry, Biomed Phys & Eng Express, etc. He is also a member of various international and national scientific societies. He has delivered more than 40 invited lectures at various national and international conferences/meetings/workshops. Recently, he is honored as an elected member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS). His research interests include Biomedical Engineering, Materials science and Engineering, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine and Computational Science nanomedicine, biosensors, and contrast agents.

Dr. Avti's editorial leadership and outstanding research expertise and experiences garnered from several world-class international research institutes will definitely inspire researchers in biomedical engineering across the globe.

ScholarX Publishing CEO, Rajesh Adhikari, PhD writes: In the current funding cycle, the research data are published in “Closed Access” publishing platforms, to whom, the universities, libraries, and research institutions must pay hefty annual subscription fees to make the research articles available to their researchers. Many people think that this is unjustified, questionable, and unfair because the taxpayers are paying two times for the same product and service. To correct this problem, the concept of “Open Access” has been introduced in the research and publishing industries, which is more fair, democratic, transparent, and less costly. Open access provides the research findings available to anyone for free. Also, open access publishing model is one of the main vehicle that distributes the research findings for free and promotes the “Open Science”. There are several advantages of the Open Access publishing model as shown in the graphics.

He says that there is a clear lack of proper alignment among the funding, conducting research, and publishing the research outcomes.
In the current global funding structure,

Governments provide most of the funding (Taxpayer’s money) for research.
Researchers publish their findings without any financial interest (no compensation at all).
They actively participate and contribute to the peer review process for free. Note to remember: Peer review is the most important aspect of quality control during scholarly and research communication.
Once their research is published, they have to pay again to access their own findings and no copyright. In other words, the public (Taxpayers) have no access to the research data and any research outcomes.

Dr. Adhikari says “ this is the real problem” that has been existing for a long time and now this is time to fix it.

Ramesh Pandey, PhD received his MSc in microbiology from the Department of Microbiology, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, India, and PhD in Biochemistry from Sun Moon University, South Korea in 2014. Before he took a research fellow position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology & Broad Institue of MIT and Harvard, USA, He served as an Assistant professor at Sun Moon University, South Korea from 2014 to 2020. Currently, he works as a Scientist in Greenlight biosciences, Boston USA.

Dr. Pandey is an emerging research leader in Biochemistry who has demonstrated his research excellence in various capacities. He is an inventor of 9 patents in the field of Biochemistry and Synthetic Biology. He has published more than 90 research articles in top tier-peer reviewed international journals and 5 book chapters. He has supervised more than 15 PhD students and has secured several national and international research grants.

His research interests include the development of metabolic engineering, system/synthetic biology tools to engineer natural products biosynthesis pathways in heterologous hosts for the production of novel natural products. Particularly, elucidation of secondary metabolites biosynthesis pathways and production of those compounds in metabolically engineered microbial cells such as Escherichia coli and Streptomyces species using current synthetic/systems biology tools is the focus. He is also focused on genome mining for the identification of novel drug/lead molecules/enzymes from the microbial population of the unexplored symbiosis system. Recently, his research is focused on cell-free biosynthesis systems development for the production of high-value products. As a microbial biochemist, He is always fascinated with the microbial interactions that lead to the production of molecules that could be used as drug moiety in clinical uses.
