I was due to record the third episode on an unhurried life. Work has been particularly busy over the past couple of weeks so I thought I’d actually practice being unhurried and wait until I have time to complete it.
However with the awful news in the UK that a young woman vanished walking home from her friends and has since been found dead, I felt prompted to speak about a different topic.
Sarah Everard’s death has sparked rightful outrage around women’s safety and the treatment of women by men and the need for change.
As a man and a Christian I am aware of only one man who has ever treated women in the correct way.
Jesus.
His interactions with women and his treatment of them were revolutionary.
We may have come a long way in the past 2000 years with science, technology, our understanding of the world etc but we are still woefully behind the standard his life demonstrated when it comes to our treatment of women.
That’s why he is as relevant as ever today and why my next episode/episodes will be looking at these interactions and how he treated women.
As men and Christian men in particular we have failed miserably in this area of obedience to what Jesus says and have a lot to repent of and learn.
So we need to come and sit at the feet of the Teacher and be transformed into his likeness, treating women with the dignity and value that they deserve as fellow image bearers of God.
