“A Broadway triumph for the history books”, the 1967 all-black cast version of “Hello Dolly” revitalized the long running musical and was so successful in its touring version it went to Broadway. The show starred Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway, who played to sold-out houses almost every night. Bailey received a special Tony award for her role, and the musical ran for an impressive 2,844 performances.

Juanita Hall was an American musical theatre and film actress. She was personally chosen by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II to play her roles in “South Pacific” and “Flower Drum Song”. In 1950, she became the FIRST African American to win a Tony Award, for her role as Bloody Mary in South Pacific. She had not only an extensive resume as a Broadway performer, but also as a Blues singer and film actress.

Composer Eubie Blake and lyricist Noble Sissle pictured in 1921, the year “Shuffle Along”, (book by vaudeville performers and playwrights Flournoy Miller and Aubrey Lyles), premiered on Broadway. The show was "the first major production in more than a decade to be produced, written and performed entirely by African Americans." Shuffle Along marked a breakthrough for the African-American musical performer and "legitimized the African-American musical, proving to producers and managers that audiences would pay to see African-American talent on Broadway." Black audiences at Shuffle Along sat in orchestra seats rather than being relegated to the balcony. It was the first Broadway musical to feature a sophisticated African-American love story, rather than a frivolous comic one. Historically, it was a huge breakthrough in the diversity of the theatre (but we still have a ways to go)!

Welcome to the third of our “Meet your Hosts” series!
Elizabeth received her BFA in Radio/TV/Film at CSUF and her MBA with an emphasis in Management at CSUSB. Currently she is a full time videographer and photographer for theater performances, weddings, and many other events. Though she is not as theatrically inclined as her co-casters, she hopes she makes up for it with her background and education in film and storytelling. When she's not podcasting, Elizabeth is usually hanging out with her goofy corgi and equally goofy fiancé, playing board games, sipping on some wine, editing projects, or rolling some d20s.

Welcome to the second of our “Meet your Hosts” series!
Mads is a professional stage manager and technician majoring in Theatrical Production and Design. She has worked in stage management, directing, lighting, audio, scenic construction, and stage makeup. Her love for music and the arts was most likely born in a 90s Honda Civic, where her parents blasted tapes of all genres, including Broadway cast recordings. She loves musical theatre, Disneyland, Harry Potter, and true crime shows. She shares one furbaby with co-host Zach (Lucía) and is an active animal rights supporter. Mads is a proud Latina and an advocate for increased diversity in the arts business. Everyone's story deserves to be told.

Welcome to the first of our “Meet your Hosts” series!

A lighting designer by day and a director, master electrician, editor, and fight coordinator (also by day), Zach has been working professionally for 13 years, the last 6 of which with LiveNation Entertainment. Starting in theatre at age 7, he was immersed for much of his youth, eventually obtaining a BA in directing. Though he spends much of his time in the live music world now, theatre is still his favorite medium to work in, as well as experience. Otherwise, he's a huge classic Disney nerd with a head full of useless facts, ready to be shared!
