Don’t forget to take a plant break and appreciate your house plants for all that they do! I bought this pothos plant when we first moved into this apartment and it only had a few leaves, now look at how long it’s getting! House plants can be a great way to bring nature into your home, which can help reduce stress, improve air quality, and absorb carbon emissions as they go. If you are looking for a forgiving house plant to get started, the pothos is a great one that doesn’t mind dim lighting.
This weekend we helped my dad take down a rotting storage shed on his property. I was expecting hard work and gross bugs, but did not expect the lesson about how much goes into our built environment. This shed was the size of my apartment living room, and yet it had piles of nails, wooden board, bags of asphalt shingles, fiberglass insulation, and more that I could never have imagined. Some of this material can be reused in future projects, but much of it cannot and is destined for landfill. A tiny peek into the intensive nature of our built environment, I am interested to learn more about how we can renovate old buildings to ensure they are green and energy efficient, and how we can be sure that new buildings are carbon neutral AT LEAST as soon as possible.
