Sharing and turn taking can be a real struggle, not only for kiddos, but the adults that support them.

In this episode we get to discuss the developmental reasons behind why sharing is hard, and also what we can do as adults to help scaffold it's growth!

We learn sharing isn't so much about caring. In a child's world, sharing is daring!

Are you as terrible at writing things down as we are?

If you listened to our latest episode on the benefits of nature in child development, then you might have been curious about this book: Balanced and Barefoot by pediatric occupational therapist Angela J. Hanscom.

If you want to further your knowledge then we highly recommend checking it out for a read!

There, now you don't have to write it down 😉

🥳Episode 8! Available now!🥳

Many of us grow nostalgic thinking of hours of uninterrupted outdoor childhood adventures. Some of us feel like maybe we missed out on that unfettered freedom. But it wasn't the freedom, it was the nature that spoke to our childhood souls.

Nature shapes the way we develop, but it can look a thousand different ways and we have lots of options in bringing it to our children.

Listen in for a little nostalgia, and a LOT of info on how we can get back to nature for ourselves and the children we want to share it with. 💚
Episode 8: Where The Wild Things Are - Adventures In Outdoor Exploration is available on Spotify, Amazon, and more, including for free from Buzzsprout! 🎧https://fortheloveofchildhood.buzzsprout.com/1925590/10554093-where-the-wild-things-are

This can be a hard one... While we have the power to help regulate or validate whatever our kiddos feel, we cannot "make" it or bend it to our will.

Tapping into our own empathy and allowing children to have their own unique feelings about a situation isn't easy... But it's often exactly what our kiddos need.

Raise your hand if you've done this before 🤚

It can be so hard to stay empathetic when we see the "victim" of a mistake or offense as more fragile.

Big sibling/little sibling
Toddler/infant
Child/animal

But the best way to teach children empathy is to offer it ourselves.

When you find yourself in a moment of bias, pause, take a deep breath and try to change "how do I punish so this doesn't happen again." To "how can I help this child be successful"?

Any other Bug's Life fans here? Lol... This beautiful quote by our own Liesl Aldridge reminds me so much of that part when Flick hands Dot a rock and says "pretend it's a seed" 🥰

If we see our children's feelings about their behaviors as a seed to be grown, instead of a rock to be carved... Imagine the gardens we could grow 🌱💙

Let's redefine our understanding of punishment and consequence.

Most of us see these two as the same, and that makes our adjustment of practice harder.

When we separate these from each other it allows us to see the difference in our intentions.

Is your intention to make your child feel a certain way? Or is your intention to motivate growth?

We are masters of our environment!
How does your classroom/home help set your kids up to be successful with everyday routines and expectations?

This could be as simple as a step stool to help them reach counters, or as intentional as some printed visuals to help them remember boundaries.

Is every room/area accessible? Or are some off limits? Hows does the environment help children remember that (so you don't have to)?
