Musona Back At Kaizer Chiefs
Zimbabwe international Knowledge Musona is
set to re-join his former club Kaizer Chiefs on
a one-year loan deal in one of the major
coups by Amakhosi before the start of the
Absa Premiership in August, Gemazo can
exclusively reveal.
Gemazo has on good authority that Musona is
expected in South Africa next week where he
is set to start training with the club that gave
him fame and fortune when he was signed as
a raw teenager in 2009 from Harare’s Aces
Academy. There have been reports that
Musona was eyeing a comeback to the South
Africa Premiership after an unforgettable
season in the Germany Bundesliga. However
his agents were quick to dismiss it asmere
speculation but Gemazo can exclusively reveal
that the Musona deal to join Kaizer Chiefs has
been finalised and he is expected to land in
South Africa next week if everything goes as
planned.
“The deal is finalised and everything is in
black and white. Musona has agreed to the
deal. He even called his family yesterday
(Tuesday) and them he is coming back to
South Africa to rejoin Kaizer Chiefs. He is
coming back to play for Kaizer Chiefshe has
been loaned a one year contract,” a highly
placed source told Gemazo.
It is understood that the Musona family, who
have since moved from their Norton house to
a plush Strathaven house bought by
Knowledge are very excited by the move as
‘he would be close to them”
Musona joined Kaizer Chiefs in 2009 without
having made an appearance in the Zimbabwe
Premier Soccer League. He was used sparingly
as a substitute in the 2009–10 season but still
managed to score a handful of crucial goals.
In July 2010 he was awarded the PSL Club
Rookie of the Year award.
The 2010–11 season proved to be Musona's
breakthrough season as he scored 15 goals
in 28 league games to win the Lesley
Manyathela Golden Boot which attracted the
interest of European clubs such as Bundesliga
side 1899 Hoffenheim, Serbian giants FK
Partizan and Scottish Premier League giants
Celtic.
On 28 July 2011, Musona signed for German
Bundesliga side 1899 Hoffenheim in a five
year deal.
He made his debut as a substitute ag*inst SC
Freiburg in a 3–1 win and scored his first
goal in a 2–1 DFB Pokal win over FC Köln on
25 October 2011.
On 18 May 2012, it was announced that
Musona was loaned to Bundesliga side FC
Augsburg on a one-year loan so thathe could
game time. He failed to score a single goal in
781 minutes of play.
He moved to Hoffenheim for €1.3 million.
Chiefs have always been eager to get back
their hot property to Naturena.
Football manager Bobby Motaung said in early
June he would love to have Musona back at
the club.
“He is my baby. I will love to have him back,
but unfortunately he is contracted toa
German team. He is in Europe where it is
high-level, but if he is available I willdefinitely
have him back,” ‘BobSteak’ said.
