Running a business is hard. But, I wouldn't have it any other way 🤙

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe anxiety and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, some will view you as a service and not a person anymore. You constantly have to worry about if you forget to email/message someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality, you just can’t get to everyone’s messages and emails or are to drained to even try.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there just is no work-life balance when starting a new business. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner. All whilst being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, and friend.

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5-10 years. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially this past year. Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient….. and hopefully, more of us will stick around!

Do you take on challenges?

We did that this summer by partnering with Keystone Construction to plumb an apartment complex in Bloomington. We fully believe it's essential to push ourselves outside of our comfort zone. Due to the unprecedented pandemic, we have all been dealing with the State of the City event that normally takes place in mid-March had to be reinvented. Like many organizations, the Martinsville Rotary and the Martinsville Chamber had to find the best way to create virtual events without losing the spirit of the celebration of all things Martinsville. The awards presentation is an important part of the tradition, so we decided to have some fun with it and surprise the recipients.
