✨ Don’t tokenize your Black friends + coworkers
✨ ‘Black’ and ‘POC’ are *not* inter-changeable
✨ Black history is American history
✨ Support + celebrate Black futures too

After 6 months of exponential growth as a new business, we are—to put it lightly—a bit tired. So, we’re following the lead of friends and fellow creators prioritizing . (We’re looking at you, GaneshSpace 🌈.)

We’ll be stepping back from creating and sharing new content on this account throughout the month of July to focus on our clients, some exciting (👀) Rise backend work, and REST. We look forward to seeing you here in August, when we hope to be recharged, refreshed, and ready to re-engage even more intentionally with our digital community.

The recent SCOTUS ruling may have you feeling like you need to do something RIGHT NOW, and while this feeling of urgency is valid and highly-relatable, we encourage the following...

You may have gone to protests the day of the decision, called your reps, and rage donated to abortion funds. These actions—and more!—are great and necessary to stoke the collective fire. 🔥 But the emotionally-charged and reactive nature of this work may leave you feeling as if you’re burning your candle at both ends. 🕯

So, here is a message, specifically for white folks, who want to turn their urgency into new movements for the cause: These movements already exist. They are led by Black women, Indigenous and brown folks, and q***r, trans, and nonbinary activists. These movements are all about playing the long game and leaning on and into community to keep the fire burning. ❤️‍🔥

We can’t do this work alone, and we must not burn out to the point of complacency. Community movements are the way forward. They always have been.

Just because abortion is no longer a constitutional right, does not mean it is not a human right. As we continue to fight, be sure to create space to rest and grieve.

Juneteenth is now a federally observed holiday, which means that on a day meant to celebrate Black liberation, many white folks will benefit from a paid day off. This is not the case for many Black folks who are still working just to survive. We encourage non-Black folks to use this time to educate themselves and take action, beginning with redistributing Juneteenth holiday pay to support Black communities and individuals via mutual aid. 💵
