Sekhukhune United player Shaun Mogaila is appeared in court on Thursday morning (31 October 2024).The 29-year-old was involved in a motor vehicle accident that left a 9-year-old girl dead and one other person injured. He reportedly fled the scene, but later handed himself over to the police. Authorities allegedly discovered bottles of alcohol and drugs at the scene of the accident.

POST ME ANONYMOUSLY
Yesterday around 17:30 I was driving along the Heidelberg Road coming from Carnival Mall direction towards Heidelberg. Just after the Shakwane exit that goes into ext 5/8 there were a group of kids aged between 7-12 who were throwing stones at cars there and run away. Cars had to swerve and a very bad accident was almost caused. I plead with parents around that area to mind their kids and keep them away from that road. Unfortunately I couldn't stop and turn back to catch 1. This is a serious problem that needs parents to intervene immediately.

A 43-year-old police officer who allegedly benefitted to the tune of R10 million from the murder of six civilians is expected to apply for bail at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo today. Sergeant Rachel Kutumela from the Senwabarwana police station will appear alongside her 27-year-old daughter and her 47-year-old sister. Kutumela faces six counts of murder and several others of insurance fraud. The bail application has been scheduled from today to Friday. The state is expected to oppose bail.

A crime intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of 17 suspects for IllegalMining in two separate incidents.

Police seized the mining equipment during the operation.

On Saturday, 26 October 2024, eight suspects were arrested at Van Ryn mine old shaft, Benoni.

On Friday, 25 October 2024, nine suspects were arrested on N12 informal settlement, Crystal Park.

Four armed suspects were fatally wounded and four unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition were recovered during a shootout between the law enforcement officers and the suspects on the R59 in Alberton on Saturday, 26 October 2024, at approximately 09:00.

Police Crime Intelligence received information about the suspects who were planning to commit a business robbery in Johannesburg. A team of law enforcement agencies that included Gauteng Crime Intelligence, SAPS Gauteng Tactical Response Team, SAPS Gauteng Anti-Gang Unit, Gauteng Traffic Police Airwing, CAP Specialised Operations, Tracker Connect, and Badboyz Security Group, were activated to be on the lookout out for the suspects.

A silver grey Toyota Corolla, that matched the description circulated, was spotted driving on the R59 towards Johannesburg CBD. As the law enforcement agencies were stopping the vehicle with four occupants, the suspects started shooting at the law enforcement officers. A shootout and high-speed chase ensued. The suspect's vehicle capsized in the middle of the road.

All four suspects were certified dead on the scene. Four unlicensed fi****ms and ammunition were recovered from the suspects. None of the law enforcement officers were injured.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, once more attributed this foiled robbery to a collaboration between various law enforcement agencies and private security companies.

COUNTERFEIT GOODS RAIDS

This week, the South African Police Service , alongside its crime-fighting partners, seized counterfeit items valued at over R3 million in the Johannesburg CBD. Two suspects, identified as illegal foreign nationals, were also arrested during the operation.

The takedown was led by the National Counterfeit Goods Unit joined by the Gauteng Provincial Counterfeit Unit, Public Order Policing, South African Revenue Services, South African Health Products Regulatory Authority , Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, Brand Protectors, Crime Prevention Wardens, and private security personnel. The operation was executed on Friday, 25 October 2024, under a search and seizure warrant that targeted shopping malls in the Johannesburg CBD.

More than 6 000 counterfeit items were confiscated, including pharmaceuticals, clothing, watches, bags, cosmetics, and perfumes.

The SAPS, along with its partners, is committed to eradicating the illegal trade of counterfeit goods to safeguard consumers, legitimate businesses, and the economy of this country.
