Town councillors are saying they didn't know that the by-law amendment was for any specific industrial project. But this screenshot was from the report PDF that Lori Bickford of Planning presented to them. It shows that the by-law amendment was sought specifically for this project. Mike Wilson owns AIL and Drew Fraser owns Can-tech and the lot in question.

Council meeting in Sackville last night where Matt Litvak and Bonnie Swift spoke about the dangers to the aquifer, town reservoir, Silver Lake, plastics fires and ability of town firefighters to deal with Beech Hill area plastic fire without town water or fire hydrant. Also Matt mentioned the lack of adequate (although legal/minimal) disclosure about this project. You can forward to about 35 minute mark.

One point to be emphasized was that this by-law was specifically changed to allow AIL to build this manufacturing plant (see Lori's presentation to the council) and since the disclosure was inadequate at the time (only noticed when the forest was clear cut) AIL was able to go full steam ahead before the residents were aware of what was intended.

This overhead photo (pre-clearcut) shows the proximity of the plastics manufacturing plan to our Town reservoir. Since permeable shale is underground this will give any chemicals/microplastics spills easy access to the town water supply.
