There's a very subtle beauty to this image, between the muted tones to the slight atmospheric fog. It just "work" (and it makes us want to visit this incredible part of the world that is Mongolia)

Thanks to the reach of the XF56mm lens Brandon was able to frame this worker in Hong Kong streets perfectly. The pattern created by the horizontal yellow lines and the black is beautiful to look at. That’s what I really enjoy about Brandon’s work, he cares a lot about composition and colors combinations. Make sure to visit his gallery for more images from HK and London.

A very minimalistic picture taken in Iceland, here the monochrome works really well. The model is isolated from the background, not posing but being spontaneous without briefing. It's a very natural image. Iceland is a great location for portraits, it offers all kind of weather and background from green hills to black rocks and sand.

Who said that a rainy day wasn't good for shooting? Fog, mist, rain, and condensation can be used to create singular images. Here Joshua took advantage of the transparency of a window to transform his subject into a piece of art. It reminds me a lot of the work of Nick Turpin book "On the Night Bus" (published by Hoxton mini press). If you're in London, Josh and Craig (sixstreetunder) are organizing street photography workshops (more information on their respective accounts).

You'll find a lot of vintage cars and motorcycles in Marcelo's work and that's great because the way he combines portraiture with those beauties of the past is magnificent. This portrait is very clever, it's just showing a part of the face and he used the lines of the window frame to direct the eyes of the viewer and frame his subject. I really love the atmosphere that Marcelo put into his portraits, make sure to check them!

There’s one thing I love about photography, it’s the powers it gives you. The ability to transform reality is one of them. Here the use of a semi-transparent material creates a haunting effect, the translucency allows us to see a part of the silhouette of the subject. It’s up to the viewer to imagine the context. This is a very intriguing image that made me look more than once at it, it has an ethereal beauty to it, almost sculptural.

"The sun had seemed to set, with all direct light now gone. I waited around hoping color would intensify when to my surprise the sun returned (it was behind a mountain so I couldn't see it). In its last moments, it shone directly upon the sheer face of Half Dome giving me one of the best photographic moments of my life (mosquitos aside)" A truly magical shot of this equally magical place in the Yosemite National Park, USA.

Repetition is a concept that has been used among artists of all kind, from Warhol coca-cola bottles to Eadweard Muybridge frame by frame compositions of horses running (the photography of movement). It is often found in nature (plants replicates themselves following complex patterns, sometimes called fractals) which then inspires us for human-made structures (like the buildings that surround us). Our eye is naturally attracted by repetition, because of it’s aesthetic and geometry. Here Marcelo chose to break the flow of the pattern created by the horses by adding a human element. By doing so the eye of the viewer is driven to the main subject. This is a fantastic image, perfectly executed which shows the noble confrontation between the man and the horse.

Trolltunga is probably one of the most photographed and most scenic places in Norway. Hovering 700 meters above a beautiful lake it offers a unique view to the surrounding nature. The angle chosen by the photographer here is quite interesting, there’s a blend between the shape of the lake and the rock formation. Usually, pictures are taken from below the rock to create a bigger sense of scale, but this is more subtle. It works especially well with the subject perfectly centered in the frame.

There’s a beauty in Vasjen gallery, a homogeneity of colors and light. This recent image interested me because of the mirroring, by reversing the picture he created a unique effect (of course it’s probably not the first nor the last time someone does this, but here it’s well done). I really like the green/cyan and pink tones in his work.

The perspective here is what caught my eye, the epic scale of the landscape in the background captured from a high vantage point is stunning. The colors are subtle, playing with only one tone with different textures and gradients. I really admire how the whole thing holds up together, there’s nothing to add and nothing to remove.

Two good rules to obtain a great landscape image is to have a decent location (you can't go wrong with New Zealand) and proper light. Here the different layers of the mountains are detached by what we call atmospheric fog, it helps creating depth. The silhouettes are also made visible because of that effect. The composition is quite straightforward, 2/3 of sky and mountains and 1/3 of ground. What's more interesting is how the tracks on the ground and the slopes of the mountain "guide" the eye to those silhouettes in the background. They both act as leading lines. This is a very strong shot, which took advantage of a not-so-great weather and difficult light condition. The use of a very limited color palette also help in defining a mood.

A splash of color. There's a lot of things going on here, first in term of composition it's a little masterpiece. The four squares in the background, the rectangle of the basketball hoop (which is in a similar color that one of the background square) and the way everything is off center. The shadow of the ball is perfectly aligned to the hoop, that's another nice detail. At last but not least, the subject is wearing two colors (white and yellow) which are contrasting with the background and echoing the rest of the photograph palette.

Hands are such a wonderful subject, like faces they can contain a lot of expressions and each pair is unique. They can tell a story. This image is interesting in the sense that the camera is used on a timer, it creates a picture that isn't common. Usually when you take a picture of your own hand you're holding the camera with the other one. The black and white is particularly beautiful here.

Astrophotography and night photography are tricky subjects but they can be a good way to learn how to use your camera in full manual mode. Here the combination of the stars and the trees (probably lit up by a small headlamp) is working really well, and the amount of details obtained is incredible. It's not very common to see this type of images especially in black and white.

I discovered Chris gallery a few days ago while browsing pictures under the hashtag. He's been shooting with Fujifilm cameras since the X-E1 but now uses the . He told me that's all that he needs. No wonder why, his eye for composition is stunning but more importantly he has a very playful style and great ideas. He's really good at mixing subjects and locations. Make sure to visit his gallery, every image is a little gem!

"After three days and nights of bleak, cloudy, sub-zero, windy and heavily raining conditions in which we were tent-bound for up to 18 hours at a time, we woke just before sunrise and with relief and disbelief, we saw the range towering above us for the first time…" This is really the kind of moment that we strive for as photographers. The simplicity of this image is also its strength, there's a good match between the muted blue and the orange glow fading into black. It's also very interesting to see some landscape work being done with the 56mm, which is originally a portrait lens.

If there's one guy who's crazy enough to be out there inside a big wave with a fisheye lens, that's Russel. We interviewed him a while ago (on our website) and we're very happy to see his work evolving. Make sure to check his feed, the way he shows the raw power of nature is beautiful.

Simple things work well, you don't have to get overly complicated to tell a story. Here the combination of blue and pale brown is perfect, there's also a touch of black with the fishing rods and the hair of the subject. The symmetry is good and there's a slight asymmetry of the sky and in the model pose which helps in giving this image a bit more variation (it would have been too static if everything was too symmetrical). We can only wonder at the thoughts that this person is having looking at the horizon...

This photographer works anonymously and without revealing details about his gear. One of my friends reached out to him/her and got a confirmation that this incredible shot is indeed taken with a Fujifilm camera. There's an incredible composition going on here, and the angle of view is so unique. He/she must have been very close to the subject to get that. Make sure to check the photographer gallery, it's really impressive!

Watching the sunset from a high mountain peak is an unforgettable experience. Here Nico masterfully combined the scenery with the scale of an human, by putting these two in perspective he created an image that tell use a story and make us want to experiment this feeling as the well. The color of the tent is almost complementary to the blue of the sky, they go perfectly together.

Don works navigate between street, fine art and film set photography. It's no wonder that he has a great knowledge about light and playing with elements in the scene. This image, in particular, caught my eye. I really like how he aligned the flare coming from the window reflection to the face. It creates a very mystical image. Layering different subjects on a different focal plane can be super effective, either in street photography (for example a passerby "interacting" with an advertising on the wall) but also for portrait photography. I really like this image for this reason, it is funny but also very well-thought. By picturing the racer (Francisco Cardenas) with his horse in front of him, Philip created an image that shows the importance of the animal and human relationship in a comical way. Also, note how the background and jacket colors go so well together, it's almost like if it was styled this way.

Not all selfies are created equal, there’s the usual snap on the edge of the swimming pool, the more elaborated selfie stick shot on vacations (for those who don’t mind looking a bit stupid and egocentric) and then there’s the photographer selfie (just a step before the autoportrait) which is carefully planned. Here Lauri chose to frame himself in the street. What works really well in this image is the structure, the vertical lines create a pattern that is broken by the mirror. The colors are cold, but there’s a touch (an accent) of red and yellow.

Another landscape shot by Christopher, we featured his work exactly a week ago. It’s great to see people using longer lenses (here the 50-140mm) for landscapes as it gives a different perspective and the compression of the different planes (foreground, background) can help in creating very painterly compositions. The gradient in this one is particularly stunning. A picture worth framing!

National parks can offer stunning sceneries, this one is the Acadia on the East coast. The use of a telephoto lens allowed Nick to frame this guy cruising on the lake, the compression of the different planes (foreground, subject and background) creates an interesting effect. The contrast between blue and yellow is just magnificent, and the ripples in the water make it look like a painting. It's always good to get at least one long lens when you're outside on a trip.

A beautiful alignment of three Torii, the traditional Japanese gates, in the water near Tara in Japan (what’s fascinating is that they are sometimes half underwater, depending on the sea tide). The simplicity, the perspective and the angle of view chosen by the photographer are stunning.
