Poetry World #1: Poem 16 of 17

Published in UK Poetry Magazine

Sunday

by Thomas Mitchell
(Bradford, West Yorkshire, UK)

Morning proceeds, not rushing nor slowing for me to awaken from my slumber,
When I do arise the thought of nothingness and cease of activity increases the sloth within me.
Away from the dredges of toil, this small margin of comfort will be
realised.

Published in London Poetry Magazine

Imaginings of the Familial

by Joel Schueler
(Stroud, Glouchestershire, England)

Bandaging the bloodied sceptre
passed down like the baton from generations passed,
must you hold up those warring, quarrelling words,
watching the watering can
bathe the blade, watching the watering can
moisten roots of family trees?

My dog will bark
He follows me
Into the dark
To shadows of the moon's bright light

Poetry World #1: Poem 7 of 17

Published in Eleventh Transmission

What Say the Trees of Compiègne?

by Sylvia Anne Telfer
(Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, Scotland)

Stiff-legged all the elevens goose-stepped in
on one date in late 1918, and in that lean dawn
the Armistice swooped down with wing-clipped
black eagles bulging in beak, hurtling them to railcar
deep in the forest of Compiègne, to the trees.

At Low Tide

by Aleks Wruk
(Edinburgh, Scotland)

At the last pages
Of my book
I sit aside
Watching life
At forty-five
Degree angle
Amused

Shrouded in the Spartan Gloss-fire

by Pawel Markiewicz
(Bielsk Podlaski, Podlachia, Poland)

the meek family of four
- quaint-dreamy perioikoi

are sitting around a Spartan glamorous fire
- endearing glittering

before myths-like holt
- where ghostlets lived in divine owls

Poets of England Contest #1 - First Place

Changing Taste Buds

by S. M. Watson
(Uttoxoter, Staffordshire, England)

It begins as I tiptoe into our kitchen cove
Where the unclean has combined with the uncooked
To be piled upon castles of already constructed waste,
And there, in this impregnable membrane of mess
Is where he resides, lying couch bound

Poets of Scotland Contest #1 - First Place

Spring 2020

by Eileen Kane
(Glasgow, Scotland)

It's twenty twenty, and the streets are empty
But the hospital wards are full with plenty
When this is over, there will be spaces at the table
From the elders, the ailing and the not so able

45 Poems of Protest: The Pandemic

Symptoms of Leakage

by Anya Trofimova
(London, England, UK)

april & the headlines announce
the end of the world. although we
have no new words in this time of
metastatic illness we drink raw
almond milk & eat dried fruits,
moiled over & palmed & bruised,
the only kind you can get.
