I have, for want of a better word, accidentally created two card games.

Not card games in the gaming parlance of the last 30 years (Magic and the like), but more traditional ones.

The first has a 96 card deck, six different suits and is designed for five players. It's basically a trick taking game with a nod to poker. I have no idea how I'm going to playtest this one because I don't really have five people I know that I can sit down with to play a card game with; yeah, I'm that much of a social butterfly.

The second has a 9 card deck you can draw up in a few minutes from a handful of beer coasters at a bar. I was thinking two player, but I can see it being two, three or four players. A very quick game; probably all over in one hand. Easily the sort of thing you could ante up a coin on and winner-take-all if you wanted to. A tavern game?

Of course, as this was not at all planned, and not even close to my usual thing, what the hell do I even do with these games?

Remember those Dice Mimics I raved about ages ago (probably PC19)? They are coming to life!

Our secret writer has kicked out the first few critters of the Dice Mimics series. Would you use the DieMite in your game?

That would be quite a feat - there aren't anywhere near that many people around here. Even if you took a zero off that number, I'd be very impressed.

I have a little PWYW thing on DTRPG - PWYW mainly because it was something I did ages ago, and really an experiment to try to get things the way I wanted them to look, blah blah blah.

Some people have thrown a few coins at it, and I think that's nice. I just checked and before this month it's Grossed $6.50 for 160 units. That's pretty nice. I just expected most people to think FREE and add it to the piles of other free stuff they'll probably never read.

Today someone paid $3 for it. That's super cool and super generous! Really makes my day to see things like this happen!

Thank-you, mysterious stranger!

Messing around with system-agnostic stat blocks for Monsters:

Skeleton

Health - 1 Die
Armor - Piecemeal Chain (treat as Chain Shirt)
Attack/Damage - Shortsword
SPECIAL - Immune to Sleep and Charm
Threat Level - 1

How does that look?

I love the way this map avoids the "traditional" method of solving mazes. I can see many a party falling into that trap and spending hours in here.

There is no easy way to convey the sense of isolation and being lost in a maze when working with a map. The “take a wrong turn, end up in a hallway that feels just like the one you wanted, but isn’t” confusion.

Welcome to the Minotaur's Maze.

IsolaCon

Are you a vendor looking for a booth to sell your cool wares during this time of isolation? Have you considered IsolaCon?

UPDATE: If you want to be a part of the Vendors Hall, please send us a thumbnail appropriate logo and your website address to [email protected] with “VENDOR” as the subject line.

We have been asked if there will be a vendor hall. We would like to provide a space for those we're trying to help get their products out there. At this time it is a work in progress.

If you are a vendor who wants to have a "booth" in our virtual hall, drop us a line at [email protected] with "VENDOR" as your subject and we will do our best to make this happen.

IsolaCon

I'm assuming all you cool cats have already heard about this?

IsolaCon has been very fortunate to receive some AMAZING prize support give-aways! As such, there will be auctions throughout the event, we will provide details as soon as we have them sorted out. We want to thank our generous friends for their support.

If you have items you'd like to donate to auction (pdfs are probably best at this time, but we do have some prints from a well known artist) please send us your information at [email protected] with "PRIZE SUPPORT" in the subject line.

Thank you again!

Strange Child Productions

We are in the process of building a virtual dealer's room dedicated to all the vendors losing income due to cancellations. The virtual table application is live. And more importantly FREE.

EDIT: I just fixed the link to the application form on the website landing page. It is currently requiring people to log into a google account to access the form. I am working on building an alternative form which should be available tomorrow.

Organic World-Building - The Local Magic Shop

A low-level "mom-and-pop" magic shop is going to be just that - whatever they sell is likely to be what they have made, or bought from a local supplier. They might be able to source something a little bigger/better, but it's going to take time, and will probably cost more than if you go out and do a bit more research yourself. Likewise, they're not going to be in a position to buy much off you because they have an established line of suppliers, but if you want to part with your +1 dagger for some of their goods and a modest amount of coins, go ahead.
If you want to rob the corner magic shop over a Barkskin scroll, a potion of Cure Light Wounds, and a handful of +1 arrows, you're more than likely going to have the local citizenry up in arms, and the local law on your case.

Your magic shop equivalent of a shop that stocks some better items, but is still independent is going to be run by a higher level (4 - 6) NPC who still makes his own stuff, as well as getting stuff locally, and probably even from surrounding towns. They'll happily trade in some low-to-medium level stuff, but anything too high isn't going to happen.
They are going to have better security, and can probably spring for insurance from a local guild and assurances from another.

As the levels progress things can go two ways (and probably do) - they are either owned and run by increasingly more powerful NPCs, with increasingly more security and protection, and anything taken is going to be more than worth hunting someone down for; or they're going to be the equivalent of a magic shop Walmart, and from sheer volume will have the ability to "pursue the matter" - the cashier won't be able to stop you, but the loss-prevention department is a killer.

Occasionally a retired higher level (15+) NPC will run his own business, but why would they bother? They are retired. They might sit in the bar and shoot the breeze while someone else makes a profit for them, and once in a while pull a beer, or make custom-made magic items for clients while apprentices churn out scrolls and potions. They're not likely to have given up a career of adventuring to run a "mom-and-pop", worrying about rates and staff wages and paying taxes.

Local store owner being a retired 20th Level Kick-Ass and the local town guard being one step removed from demi-gods? Where are these guys when the first level party are called upon to investigate a handful of bandits terrorising the town? Or the mystery of the local farmer's missing daughters?

"Sorry I couldn't help fight off those 10 level-0 bandits threatening the entire town, but I'll dust off my Vorpal Blade to deal with those 4 level-1 murder hobos that threatened the local storekeep!"

I like the organic feel when running something like this - looking at how a business interacts with the community as a whole - who they pay money to, and who pays them money. Sitting down and coming up with backstories for these kinds of shops can be half the fun; and at the end of the day, GMing is about having fun, too.

This month has seen 100 units "sold". No doubt having a PWYW and Free title has helped reach that target, but it is a nice feeling regardless.
Coupled with the fact that $$$ earned this month have beaten the last three months combined, and come close to tripling the best month to date, I'd say it's been a good month all-round.

RPG Treasure by Campaign Coins

I really wish I could justify spend this much coin on coins. I really do.

Beautiful metal coins for tabletop fantasy roleplaying games.

Currently working on three more A Devil's Dozens, and two 101s.

It's amazing how much work I can get done on these projects when I'm supposed to be working on university work, and other Adult™ things...

These are so cool!

Tomorrow I'll be finished the first of my Devil's Dozen line. It's pretty damn good, even if I do say so myself!

This is so close to funding, with still two weeks to go! If you haven't had a look at it yet, it's well worth it!

An awesome looking Kickstarter project from Michael Wenman.
