Now a professor of English at the University of Virginia, Ross has written extensively on race and gender. We recently chatted about his latest book, Sissy Insurgencies: A Racial Anatomy of Unfit Manliness, which connects his academic work to his personal roots. “In a way, I’ve been studying the sissy all my life because I grew up as a sissy boy in South Texas,” said Ross. “I thought long and deep, as many sissy boys have to in order to survive, about what it means to be a sissy.”

A conversation with Professor Marlon B. Ross

GOD UPDATES MANKIND ON THEIR PRONOUNS
by KATHLEEN O’MARA and JAY MALSKY

A light shone down from Heaven and the Lord spoke unto the people:

“I am the Lord your God. It is time that you start using my correct pronouns. Which are They/Them. Capitalized.”

The people were distraught and cried out, “My Lord, My God! … What?”

And God frowned, for They knew this was going to be a whole thing.

“They/Them. Those are my pronouns. I am non-binary. After six million years, I think you are capable of understanding the gender non-binary.”

Dumbfounded, the people replied, “But God, surely there are only two genders? Also what was that about six million years?”

The non-cis-people quietly saw themselves out as God continued, “Ugh.” They explained:

“Simply put, I, The Almighty, can not be contained to male or female, like many of my non-cis children. Also, six million years is not up for debate. What about my divine visitations screamed a specific gender to you? What exactly about a burning bush is inherently male or female? Then, you go and use the masculine? I love all my children equally, but even I can admit that with cis men, mistakes were made.”

The people began to understand. “Oh, yes… sometimes people and divine beings are neither male, nor female, or both, or trans?” said God’s children. And the Lord sighed, relieved. They took a large sip of wine because educating Their children was truly exhausting.

When the Lord started to finally wrap up and return to heaven, the children spoke up, yet again.

“Sure, God, but if we may follow up?”

“No, it’s not up for debate.”

The people pouted because they really wanted to make this about them. They followed up anyway:

“God, if we use They/Them, people might think you are more than one god.’”

And God said, “While I appreciate you not wanting to have other Gods before me, I know you’re smart enough to know that ‘they’ can be used as singular or plural.”

The people, befuddled, said, “We do, but surely not when just referring to one person?”

“Well, sometimes you use ‘they’ to refer to a group of people, but you can also use it when you’re talking generally about a person whose gender you might not be sure of, like “I don’t care who my children marry as long as they are not a tax collector or a Roman.”

The people nodded, slowly, for they did hate Romans and tax collectors.

And God’s children rejoiced because they were finally capable of understanding the full spectrum of gender. God smiled, for They loved all Their children. They even saw them as allies and felt comfortable adding one more point:

“I am non-binary, and my preferred pronouns are They/Them, capitalized, but I will also answer to She. Still capitalized.”

The people cried out in anguish.

“Lord, we were just getting it! What does this mean? Are you actually a woman?”

“What? No!”

God began to get angry at the people’s bu****it.

“I am non-binary. Have you not been listening to a Me-damn thing I’ve been saying?”

In the crowd, one of God’s gay children whispered, “Oh, She about to pop off!”

And She did indeed pop off.

“No! No! No! I’m non-binary. That’s it! I will not be sassed in the universe I created!”

The people pressed on, “Some languages use ‘he’ as a gender-neutral catch-all. That seems easier. Can we do that?”

Upon hearing that, God smote all Their children.

An age passed and God began to feel a little weird about the whole thing and They missed the attention and Their children’s prayers.

God said to Themselves, “I may have reacted with too much male energy. This did go better than it did with the dinosaurs six million years ago.”

And so God decided to bring back Their children.

All except for the cis men. And it was good.

The existence of the rainbow depends on the conical photoreceptors in your eyes.

To animals without cones, the rainbow does not exist. So you don’t just look at a rainbow you create it.

This is pretty amazing, especially considering that all the beautiful colours you see represent less than 1% of the electromagnetic spectrum.

A former swimmer's thoughts on Lia Thomas:

None of you cared about women's sports before you had a "reason" to. Beyond that though, Lia has not dominated this sport. Nor have any other trans athletes. She placed 5th and 8th in other events at that meet. (Also the 500 free sucks and I've even seen many a MAN flop out of the water following that event. I give mad props to whoever does this event. I purposely sandbaged it so I would never have to do it again)

"But her wing span and height!! THE BIOLOGICAL ADVANTAGES!!!!!!"
Michael Phelps has a longer than average wingspan, a larger web in this feet and hands, hyperextended joints (main advantage in his ankles), and produced less lactic acid than other athletes. No one complained about his advantages and he (more or less) dominated his sport. Some women are tall also, but if it's a tall woman AFAB athlete no one yells that they should compete with males. If you go after one athletes body you have to go for them all. If you only go after Lia or other trans female athletes, you're transphobic. Furthermore where do we draw the line with "natural advantages"?

"But she AMAB!!!"
So? They had to test her hormone levels before she swam. She had no more testosterone than what was outside a female limit. Her muscle mass began decreasing at 3-6 months. Then I also pose the question to you, what about intersex people? She took 2 years off of school to make sure she could participate in this sport. Let her swim.

NCAA let her compete. Be mad at NCAA, not Lia. She's a person not a political pawn. Even USA Swimming says they have no problem with Lia representing them in Paris for 2024 Olympicss as a woman athlete. Furthermore, watch what you say. Someone you know who's listening to your HATEFUL rhetoric probably loves someone who identifies as trans or q***r as well as an athlete.

She's the first transgender athlete to win a division 1 NCAA title. If "men" are the threat to sports why has it taken this long for someone trans to win a title? The REAL threat to women's sports is not other women (INCLUDING TRANSFEMALE ATHLETES). It's the lack of funding, protection, and strong female leadership. It's also the rampant sexual harassment and unequal pay. So think about that.

PS. I'm literally looking at her times right now and you can tell how she's had to work hard to get her times back. Her 500 free times are no where near consistent, and her other times are really scattered too. Looking at times of other high ranking swimmers Lia fares about equal to them. Just so you know...

Our newscast was made possible by volunteers and we are most grateful.

More so for Morgan Fator in Redding and in Chico for Adelio who fought hard to keep the show going with content.

Who knows what we can do next except our small team cannot alone carry the burden. If you think you'd like to host, report or video news in the 530 area code message us ir Producer Michael Flanagan. It has been offered by our Transgender friends to hear their story and others want insight into gay conversion therapy that is ruining lives. Perhaps we return with two documentary style shows as opposed to a newscast?

In the end, you the viewer are most important as we are here for you! We are family united in respect and the knowledge that to love another is not a crime. THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING LOVE
