Areni Wine Festival 2019
Are you a wine lover?🍷🤩
Did you know that just a few years ago the world’s oldest winery was found in Armenia? 🧐
In 2011, archeologists found the world’s oldest winery dating back 6,000 years in Areni Cave (Areni is a village of the Vayots Dzor province in Armenia). Among the items were also found press juice extraction, fermentation vessels, cups, the remains of vines and seeds. Scientists believe that the grapes, from which the wine was made in Armenia were the ancestor of the famous Pinot Noir. Now in France they produce a very expensive wine from this this sort of grape.
Every year in October all Armenian winemakers and thousands of visitors from different parts of the world gather in Areni village to celebrate the annual Areni Wine Festival. The video below will take you to the 2019’s festival. 👇
….2021’s festival is waiting for you.🎉 Start planning your trip to Armenia. Join us in Areni❣️

Avet Terterian - "The Nightingale and the Rose" (romance) Piano Transcription
"Terterian’s talent is powerful and imaginative, and so natural is his constant endeavor… to seek new expressive means that would let him follow the path of renewal and transformation of the free music, open toward other horizons and emotional spaces."
- Luigi Nono, 1986
Avet Tertertian was an Armenian composer of the late twentieth century's end. His compositions are noted for their very personal mixture of modern Western compositional currents (e.g. dodecaphony and aleatory techniques) and Armenian folk traditions, especially emphasizing instrumentation and tone colors in a unique and inimitable way. Terterian became known primarily for his Kleist opera “The Earthquake” and for his extensive symphonic production.

🇦🇲Ղափամա [Ghapama]
"Ghapama" is a made from pumpkin which is stuffed and baked, and can be eaten as a main dish or as a dessert, but one thing is sure – "ghapama" is guaranteed to put you in a good mood and make for a cosy evening.
👋 How to make Ghapama?
Here is what you will need:
1 medium-sized pumpkin 🎃
1 cup rice 🍚
4 tbsp. melted butter 🧈
Raisins, dried plums and apricots
Nuts (almonds and walnuts)🌰
3/4 tbsp. ground cinnamon
2 tbsp. honey (or sugar)🍯
Pinch of salt, or to taste 🧂
1/4 cup hot water 💧
🤤 Filling: Bring two cups of water to the boil and add the rice and a pinch of salt. Reduce to a low heat and let it cook for 10-15 minutes (don't fully cook the rice as it will continue to cook in the oven). Drain any excess water, and let's add some colors to the rice. Cook the chopped dried fruits, raisins, and nuts (you can skip this step if you don't like cooked nuts) in melted butter, honey (or sugar) and cinnamon for 10 minutes, then add the half-cooked rice to the mixture.
🤤 Stuff the pumpkin with the mixture, keeping in mind that the rice will expand in size when cooked (so don’t overfill the pumpkin with mixture). Add ¼ cup of hot water. Cover the pumpkin with the top you cut off earlier and bake it at 165ºC for about 1 ½ to 2 hours. You can tell it’s ready when the pumpkin is soft (or when you can no longer resist the sweet smell!)
Et voilà! You’ve just prepared your own “sun” and now it’s time to eat!
So, to really get a taste of Armenian culture, put on the "Ghapama song" and let's get started!

Armenian Letters
Learning Armenian letters
6 Interesting Facts About the Armenian Alphabet
1. The Armenian alphabet was created in 405 AD
The alphabet was created by Mesrop Mashtots 100 years after Christianity had been adopted as the national religion in Armenia. However, the Bible was not available in the local language. The primary reason for creating their own written language was to translate the holy book and make it available for local people.
2. It is among the family of Indo-European languages
Even though the language is part of Indo-European languages, it forms its own separate division within the group. Therefore, similar to the Georgian language, it doesn’t have any close relations to any other languages, not in this particular group or any other.
3. The language has a unique writing system
The alphabet consists of 36 original letters, and three more were added in the 12th centuries to accommodate foreign words. Those letters were “և; օ; ֆ”, however it should be noted that in reality two letters were added, as “և” stands for “and” in English. Therefore, there are 31 consonants and 7 vowels. Locals call their language “Hayots Grer” – before its creation, the nation used the languages of those countries which ruled Armenia in the past.
4. Its structure laid out the Christian religion
Mashtots was a church servant, who wanted to promote the role of Christianity with the Armenian alphabet. His religious inclinations were clearly reflected in the scrip, as the first letter “Ա” stands for God, or “Astvats” in the local language, “Ս” stands for “Holy Spirit”, and the last letter of the script “Ք” stands for “Kristos”, or “Christ” in English.
5. Letters used instead of numbers
In ancient calculations, you can see Armenian letters instead of numbers, as each letter had a corresponding number. The most fascinating thing is the Armenian calendar made with Armenian letters.
6. The Armenian alphabet serves as a decorative
