IT'S OOON! 🔥🔥

The whole thing is packed with both raw, deep, experimental and classic footwork bangers - that's my way of showing how complex and diverse this beautiful genre is.

Side note - I feel like footwork is basically unheard of (at least when it comes to our local scene). I mean it was always niche, but (correct me if I'm wrong) only Polish Juke is putting in work to popularize this sound.

How about I start a radio show / podcast series dedicated solely to footwork and people's interpretation of this genre?

Każdy set PHENa jest na swój sposób konceptualny; podzielony na bloki tematyczne przedstawiające złożoność danego brzmienia. W tym przypadku głównym założeniem była prezentacja szerokiego spektrum footworku - set zaczyna się od deepowych, atmosferycznych i eksperymentalnych tracków, a kończy na chicagowskich klasykach gatunku.

All of his sets are conceptual in their own way; divided into thematic blocks presenting the complexity of a given sound or sub-genre. In this case, the main premise was to showcase the wide spectrum of footwork - the set starts with deep, atmospheric, and experimental tracks and ends with Chicago footwork classics.

PHEN to anonimowy (zamaskowany) akt; bassowe alter ego pewnego DJ-a grającego aktywnie na lokalnej scenie. Nie mogąc pomieścić w jednej osobie zajawy na breakbeat, szeroko pojętą muzykę bassową i nieszablonowe techno, powstał właśnie PHEN, skupiony tylko i wyłącznie na eksploracji bogatego w niskie częstotliwości soundu.

Jako cel obrał sobie popularyzację niszowych; czasem wręcz obskurnych utworów, podgatunków i brzmień - Footwork, post-club, czy egzotycznie brzmiące eksperymentalne bassy na pograniczu hard-drumu, dancehallu i baile funku - you name it.

PHEN is an anonymous (masked) act; bass alter ego of a DJ actively playing on the local scene. Unable to contain his passion for breakbeat, broadly defined bass music, and unconventional techno under one persona - he created PHEN - an act focused exclusively on exploring the sound rich in low frequencies.

His goal is to popularize niche, sometimes even obscure tracks, subgenres, and sounds - footwork, post-club, or exotically sounding experimental bass on the edge of hard-drum, dancehall, and baile funk - you name it.

Heey, sooo right about tomorrow we have an amazing event coming up - Projekt New Hope: Otwarte warsztaty DJ-skie + Stream MEBLOŚCIANKI. 👀

During that time, we're gonna open our doors to future baby DJs and curious people alike. And of course I'm talking about open workshops, that anyone can join! 🤌🏻

But that's not all! Since our DJ school (Projekt New Hope) consists of 2 separate rooms with sound systems, we'll be throwing a little stream party over 2.

Alright, unexpected technical issues on my side. No track list today, but I'll make it up to u tommorow, ya know. 👀

In the meantime, look what I've found on my latest dive deep into the experimental music rabbit hole.

Debut album called "Blind at The Age of Four" by Jack Warne aka Gaunt is a true gem that scratches that avant garde itch of mine. 🌚🫀

This masterpiece of a release came together as a reflection of Jack's experience of losing his sight at the age of four due to very rare eye disease.

Nowadays, GAUNT can see just fine and so he'd chosen to share his story through his music. The whole piece is very touching, deeply personal, full of hiss and crackle. The reverberating sounds, choppy vocals echoing in and out, wide range of sonic tools he chooses to use.

Everything works together perfectly to create this weird, nostalgic, emotional and somehow comforting soundscape that catches your ear and takes your head on a journey to the memories of the author - Jack Warne. 📺

My favourite tracks from this release are "Rearview Spectate-or" and "Lesser You" (link in the comments).
I've had goosebumps listening to the latter, definitely pulls my strings. 😵‍💫

Check this s**t out and follow Jack.
