Holding onto 1st place in the conference with only one match left to play in the regular season. The last match shouldn't present too great of an issue as it is against not only an opponent I have already played and beaten this season, but also the only opponent to have yet to win a game this season. I should end with a pretty good seed for the playoffs in a couple weeks! COULD WE RETURN TO THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE 3rd YEAR IN A ROW?!?!? LETS GOOOO!!! 😄😄😄🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯

A slight stumble last week (...don't blame the cards.... just be better....) but back on the horse again this week. Still holding down first place in my division (I beat the opponent with the same record as me), and tied for first league wide!

I lost :( The downfall of a turn-based card game, even if you have the statistical best move for every turn memorized, you still have to actually draw the cards to be able to play them. Too bad, but that's how it goes. Next season I guess.

Well, my theory was incorrect.

The seeding just changed, so I guess they are also still adjusting the Hearthstone bracket.

However, we are currently still in!

We were just moved to 8th seed, which, to be completely honest, is what I originally determined I may have a shot at snagging. I still think once finalized we'll be in since even in the 8th seed, no other team from the season has a tied or better record. The 7 teams who do are all in the post-season already.

Truthfully, I like being 8th seed better than 7th. Not only is it a better story if I win, but it means the first playoff game next Wednesday is against the 1st seed player.

Now, when I won the national championship last year, I beat him 3 times during the season and also during playoffs, so I know that I can win on equal ground.

Also, by playing the hardest opponent first, it means that the semi-finals game will be against an easier opponent and the championship against an even easier opponent. Not to say that it will be easy. It won't. ESPECIALLY with not having any of the current card sets, but it still goes a long way towards helping with the nerves of increased pressure, knowing that the statistically most difficult match-up has already been won.

Of the 21 teams that played this season, 7 made the playoffs (plus myself). All 7 are extremely good and have up-to-date accounts/cards. It was a feat just making it here. I'm not worried though, I love a challenge.

Plus, imagine how much better the story will be if I win. "Defending national champ MrHlywd proves his grit, fighting from the 8th seed to clinch back-to-back national championships, all without updating his card set."

Oh, what a marketing opportunity! 😁😁😁

Just finished the last two matches of the season with expected wins, giving us a 5-3 record, securing 3rd place in my conference. Not bad for not having purchased a single new card, nor anything from any of this years' card sets! Playoffs take the top 8 teams from all three conferences. There are 6 guaranteed better records than mine, possibly 7 depending on how the rest of today's games go. This means the last playoff spot comes down to tied records, determined by individual wins during matches. This is why it is so important to play every match to the end and never concede. In a game played with best-of-5 matches, the last playoff team will now be decided by individual match wins between myself, and other teams with tied records!

Scooped up a quick win, placing me solidly in 3rd. The guy tied with me, I beat, so I get access to playoffs first. Plus, next week is the last week of the regular season, and I play the guy in last place, so I should have 3rd or better all locked up, which I believe also means I cinched a playoff spot, so there's still a chance at a repeat National Championship! FYI.... this is WAY harder without having any of the current cards LMFAO

So..... I did a thing this past weekend. 😁😁😁 No worries tho, exactly 1 week after the semester ended, I returned to complete my bachelor's, so we'll be doing this again in August '22. That also means (once the summer is over since there's no Hearthstone summer league) at least two more eSports seasons, which means two more chances to pick up additional National Championships!

Once again, firmly cementing myself in the 1st place position. Looking at the rest of my matchups for the season, I have one that is a repeat player from last season, and the rest are at the bottom of the current bracket. The good news is, I beat the repeat player every time we matched up last season, so things are looking good for another Championship run!
