Anti-Deforesration Taskforce town hall meeting held at Obubra on December 23, 2019. The meeting was held to engage with the Traditional Rulers, Women Leaders, Youth Leaders and Town Council Chairmen in the entire Obubra LGA. Essentially, it was intended to organize, sensitized and mobilize the cooperation of forest communities towards halting the intensive illegal logging operations that is currently going on across the State. In the process, the interactions with the stakeholders developed and raised their awareness on the value of the Rainforest and the need for its conservation. The continuous destruction of the forest by illegal operators is generating unbearable social and economic cost. The protection of the remaining forest of Cross River State therefore calls for EMERGENCY ACTION to avert its complete loss and the potential severe consequences that may follow. Once lost, it is gone forever and the effects of its loss on the statewide soil quality, water supply and biodiversity are incalculable.
