🎉 The nominees for the 2023 Music PEI Awards are... 🎉
Music PEI is pleased to announce the nominees for the 2023 Music PEI Awards! These awards recognize the outstanding achievements and contributions of Prince Edward Island's talented musicians and industry professionals. The awards were adjudicated by a selection of independent music industry professionals both regionally and internationally.
This year, the leading artist with seven nominations goes to rising star Lawrence Maxwell. Maxwell had nominations in every top category including FACTOR Album of the Year, SOCAN Songwriter of the Year, Lennox Island First Nation Music Video of the Year, Whitecap Entertainment Entertainer of the Year and Holland College Musician of the Year. His album Ballad of Miles was also nominated for the Caledonia House Roots Recording of the Year and The Buzz Album Art of the Year.
We also have four artists with four nominations each - Alicia Toner, Andrew Waite, Lennie Gallant, and The Burning Hell.
Our public vote category, Whitecap Entertainer of the Year, opens today, December 19th until January 6th, 2023. You can cast your vote on Music PEI’s online awards platform at https://awards.musicpei.com. Nominees in this category are Alicia Toner, Andrew, Waite, Cory Gallant, Lawrence Maxwell, and Lennie Gallant.
The winners will be announced during the 2023 Music PEI Week, which will be held March 8th-12th, 2023. Tickets will be on sale in the new year and can be purchased through the Music PEI website.
We congratulate all of the nominees on their incredible talent and achievements and look forward to celebrating with them at the awards party. We had a blast at our Summer Concert last Friday, special thanks to The Kings Playhouse for the wonderful venue! We were fortunate to have Tzu-Cheng Wang, Rayla Tsai, Betty Wang, Ian Toms, and Patrick Nabuurs perform for us. It was a great pleasure to have so many of our neighbors in Brudenell join us!

The "lighthouse" will guide you home, and it remains safe in the rocky and dark waters of life!
Our team has tried many covers: abstract style, PEI's blue jay, and realistic style. It wasn't until we used Ann Clow 's painting that fully reflected what this album wanted to convey.
This cover is part of Ann Clow's work, and she is a very friendly islander and a big fan of Tzu-Cheng Wang.
The painting includes many particular elements of Prince Edward Island: lupins, a lighthouse, and the beautiful blue sky.
Ann told us in the interview, "'The West Point Lighthouse" stands among the Island's most recognizable places." It was built in 1875; the West Point Lighthouse is PEI's tallest lighthouse at 67 feet 8 inches (20.6 Meters). The black and white striped paint makes it an unique lighthouse, and the fisherman would know exactly where they were in bad weather.
Ann also believes the lighthouse "represents light inside us all that guides us."
The cover indicates what The ArcticStar wants to bring to the world nation- guidance to a positive future.

Tzu-Cheng Wang just released the first digital album with the ArcticStar. The album was composed by Zen-Ru on Prince Edward Island. It tells a story of a musician inspired by this beautiful island, which includes the style of Jazz, folks, new age, and more.
