IEC clarifies the payment issues:

[UPDATE] Outstanding payments for election officials 2024 Elections

The Electoral Commission (IEC) notes that some citizens who volunteered as temporary election officials in the May 2024 National and Provincial Elections, may not as yet have received payment or payment in full.

Payment delays are due to outstanding documentation for officials, including signed contracts, signed attendance registers, and valid bank account information. Without these documents and information, payments cannot be processed.

We have been working diligently to process payment for such officials as speedily as possible. In fact, the IEC had paid staff for two-thirds (67%) of all work days within a week of the elections (by 8 June 2024). Over 98% of the 274 000 election staff have been paid their stipends in full, while just under 2% of election staff have not received payment or have only received partial payment.

If you served in the elections and still have not received full payment, please call the local IEC office that contracted you to finalise outstanding administration – that is, provide valid bank account details or sign contracts and/or registers for training and work days.

In the event that local IEC offices cannot be reached, please message us on this platform or email [email protected] the following information, so that we can clarify your payment status:
• Full name
• ID number
• Dates worked
• Voting station and province in which you worked
• Cellphone number

Payments are made in weekly tranches on every Saturday of the month. The next approved payments are scheduled for Saturday, 27 July 2024.

Officials are reminded that the IEC is legally obliged to tax the stipends earned by volunteer staff in accordance with South African Revenue Service (SARS) prescripts, which are embedded in its payroll system. Officials who are unemployed or who earn below the tax threshold can approach SARS for a rebate in February 2025 at the end of the tax year.

We remain indebted to our citizens who served as election officials in difficult circumstances to deliver free, fair, and credible 2024 general elections.

*Breaking News: Tragic Robbery Unveils Shocking Exploitation at Local Gas Station*

*Meyerton*- In a tragic turn of events, a cashier at a Total garage on the R82 in De Deur was shot and killed during a robbery around 9PM on Friday. Though the suspects were uprehended, the incident has not only left the community in mourning but has also exposed an alleged severe exploitation and abuse of employees.

According to sources, the victim, Victor Matlala, was a beloved father and aspiring DJ known as "VicMover." He was working tirelessly to save money for his daughter's education and was also running a side business selling branded T-shirts. His untimely death has cast a harsh spotlight on the appalling conditions under which employees at the gas station work.

It is alleged that Victor’s father was forced to pay R80,000 for his burial expenses because the owner had not registered his employees for the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) or Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA).

Whilst the owner plans to claim an undisclosed amount from insurance for the robbery, adding insult to injury.

When Victor’s father sought assistance, the owner responded callously, stating, "Listen here, I did not shoot your son, so don't come here and make it my issue."

This insensitivity is just one example of the owner's alleged abusive behavior. Despite a visit from the Department of Labour in April, where the management was asked to fix their documents within two weeks, no action has been taken, it is alleged that it is likely due to ongoing bribes.

The employees, who are still not registered for UIF or COIDA, went on strike to support Victor’s family. It is said that they now face even harsher working conditions for standing up for their rights.

The alleged recent demotion of a black manager for closing the shop while there was still blood on the floor further highlights the systemic racism and mistreatment faced by the employees. The family asks for the intervention of authorities to ensure justice for the late Victor Matlala together with his colleagues is served and they all get what is due to them.

“Victor’s life was full of promise, and his death should not be in vain” a plea from one of the friends.

Mr Zaheed Asmal was not available to comment though given 24hours to respond in writing. the story will be updated should he respond to our list of questions.

Introducing the new Level Ring – South Africans can now tap-to-pay with their finger

Level is an innovative South African company focused on building cutting-edge technology products that simplify and enhance everyday life.
A great example of this is the new Level Ring – South Africa’s first-ever payment ring.

Level came up with the idea for a payment ring following the success of its original Level Ring, which focused exclusively on transferring business card details to smartphones.
The original Level Ring won the 2018 DUT Innovator of the Year award, and inspired Level to add payment features to the new version.

The new Level Ring is easy to use. First, you link it to your smartphone through the Level app.
Then, when you need to pay for something, you simply make a fist gesture with your hand and hold the ring above the payment terminal.
Your smartphone doesn’t need to be nearby to use this functionality either, as everything you need to make a payment is stored within the ring.
The Level Ring is also scratch-resistant, dustproof, and waterproof – and doesn’t require batteries to work.

Developing Story:

It is with deep sorrow that we acknowledge the untimely loss of Malome Vector, in a tragic car accident on the N1 Road in Free State, earlier today. Malome Vector was accompanied by his crew members, Lizwi Wokuqala and one Damos, who also tragically perished in the accident. Another artist, Puleng Phoofolo, and the driver are currently in critical condition at the hospital.

As per the SAPS report, the group of five was traveling in a Datsun Go when a tire blowout caused the vehicle to lose control and collide with the rear wheels of a truck.
The truck driver emerged unscathed from the incident. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this heartbreaking event.

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa says there is no reason to keep dysfunctional municipalities that do not take accountability.

Hlabisa’s statement comes after the 2022-2023 State of Local Government Report revealed a concerning increase in dysfunctional municipalities from 64 to 66.

Hlabisa says he plans to dissolve all municipalities found misusing funds.
However, he adds that municipalities will be monitored before being dissolved.
Hlabisa says, “The first thing to do with the dysfunctional, we will visit them so that the information we have, we verify the information and as the 7th administration we do not want to act on the report.

We will engage them – what are your core problems? What support do you need and we will avail support and put timeframes and monitor them, and request them to cooperate and if they cooperate, they will definitely receive all support and be moved from dysfunctional to be functional to render services.”

21/07/2024

US President Joe Biden said he will not seek reelection, a historic reversal that came after weeks of pressure from Democrats for the 81-year-old to exit the race to improve their chances of preventing Donald Trump from returning to the White House.

Biden, 81, announced his decision on Sunday and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, 59 to become the Democratic nominee. The move came less than four months before Election Day and just weeks ahead of the party’s nominating convention in Chicago.

Biden’s campaign was dealt another blow when he tested positive for Covid-19 last week, forcing him off the campaign trail at a critical time.

Biden leaves a race where polls show Trump’s lead is growing, especially after the Republican candidate was grazed by an assassin’s bullet at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13.

Biden as he drops out of 2024 Election, he Endorses Kamala Harris.
