This week Mike and Oteil chat with legendary rock photographer Jay Blakesberg. You'll hear the guys talk about Jay's new visual autobiography RetroBlakesberg, his early days as a photographer shooting alternative rock bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Soundgarden, and why he loves shooting artists consistently throughout their careers. You'll also hear Jay tell the guys about some of his favorite moments shooting the Grateful Dead, the differences between digital and film photography, and much more. Jay is best known for his amazing photos of the Grateful Dead and nearly every other jamband to play over the last 40 years, and in this episode he tells the guys all about his wild ride as a rock n' roll photographer.

Jay Blakesberg is a San Francisco-based photographer, filmmaker, and public speaker whose work has been featured in Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Relix and numerous other magazines. He has worked with countless musical artists, including Neil Young, Radiohead, Phish, Joni Mitchell, The Flaming Lips, Tom Waits, the Rolling Stones, Carlos Santana and, of course, the Grateful Dead to name just a few. Blakesberg first started documenting life with a camera in 1978 at age 16. His 16th coffee table book, RetroBlakesberg is available Wednesday, September 28th.

Click the link in our bio to stream this weeks episode of Comes a Time, featuring Dr. Richard Schwartz 🌟

“Richard Schwartz began his career as a family therapist and an academic at the University of Illinois at Chicago. There, he discovered that family therapy alone did not achieve full symptom relief and in asking patients why, he learned that they were plagued by what they called “parts.” These patients became his teachers as they described how their parts formed networks of inner relationships that resembled the families he had been working with. He also found that as they focused on and thereby separated from their parts, they would shift into a state characterized by qualities like curiosity, calm, confidence and compassion. He called that inner essence the Self and was amazed to find it even in severely diagnosed and traumatized patients. From these explorations the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model was born, and since then it’s grown into an evidence-based, widely-used form of psychotherapy. It provides a non-pathologizing, optimistic, and empowering perspective and a practical and effective set of techniques for working with individuals, couples, families, and more recently, corporations and classrooms.”

We hope everyone is having a great week, we’ll be back with an all new episode on Friday ☮️🌟☮️

Richard also walks Oteil through an exercise to help him sort out his “negative” internal parts, and fills the guys in on practical tips on finding higher versions of themselves, while detailing the developmental process and applications of IFS.”
