Mental Health PSA!! 🧠💗
It is my job to tell you that batching content and scheduling out, having a clear plan and all the rest of it is the way to go — but sometimes life get in the way, or get away.
🫡I had a plan that I would make a bunch on content while traveling. Guess what l???
It didn’t happen. 😣
😈A LOTTTTT of other things did. A lot, a lot. And I honestly didn’t want to touch anything work wise for myself.
I focused on my job, my clients. And in between all things - I had one of the BIGGEST panic attacks of my life.
🫶 I journaled, I talked over things with my husband, I cried (buckets and buckets). But I also gave myself love.
💗 I realize I can give myself my love. I can let go of things that do not serve me. … that I HAVE THE CHOICE!
So this is my message to you as well as to myself.
👉 Prioritize YOURSELF.
Put the oxygen masks on yourself and only then can you heal others or do anything else for that matter.

You are never going to BE READY. There is NO SUCH THING.
🤠One of my FAVORITE scenes in movie history is when Indiana Jones takes the infamous leap of faith in The Last Crusade.
In this scene there appears to be deep crevasse and poor Indiana is faced with knowing that the Holy Grail is on the other side. He battles with all his knowledge that he can’t just walk across this and having faith in himself and god that this is possible.
Indy puts one foot out and one hand on his heart taking a step forward. And guess what?!?!
😧- Spoiler Alert -😮
The earth beneath him appears as if out of no where. BUT this is an illusion. The earth was always there he (and the many before him) did see it at first and so many made the choice to turn around.
👉The truth is even if you can see the road ahead it doesn’t guarantee a for sure outcome. You have to have faith in YOURSELF.
The words “I can do this” changed my life.
The moments when I leaned into the pull and self trust - changed my life.
💪 My ability to not hold myself back, or deny myself of what I truly desire - changed my life.
So many times in my life I felt it wasn’t “ the right time” but I trusted MYSELF.
💗 I took that leap of faith!💗
You get to CHOOSE to make a move. Today.

So this is your sign to go all in. Just like Indiana Jones - the leap of faith - and create your own adventure.

ABOUT JOHN
John Hornsby is the Founder and Chief Creative Director of Hornsby Creative. Throughout his 25 year career, he has served in leadership for various creative companies. He has rarely held a traditional job, always finding his way into unique situations. These have included running a DIY performance space, playing in bands while running the art department for a special events company, driving an RV around the country marketing Medicare with his wife, managing signs and graphics companies.
John is also a founding board member of AIGA Asheville, the professional association for design, and is part of the team for CreativeMornings Asheville.
Most recently, he and his wife launched Connection Kits, a service that curates mailed kits that bring the tactile connection back into the world of virtual events. John is also the lead organizer for Freelance Business Week Asheville.

I am going to say it: 🛑 STOP just saving your reels as drafts only.
👏back👏’em👏up👏
👉 SAVE THEM AFTER FILMING.
Make sure you have them stored elsewhere, and save your captions in your notes if you want to do that too!
What are ways you can backup your reels?
✔️ Save using that little arrow button (the audio you attached wont save but everything else will)
✔️ Make a folder of audios you use or want to use (you can delete once you use them to keep extra organized)
✔️ Use other apps like @Splice or @VideoLeap to create your reels
✔️ If you are using another app to create your reels - Use a repost app to get the audio so you can sync your video with it (yes this may be a little tedious but it works)
⭐ BONUS: Once you have uploaded a final real - make sure you save that because you can always repost it again down the line. Use a repost app to download it and save it to you phone.
I like to keep my reels in iPhone folders in my photo app- I have a NEW and USED folder. I store them accordingly to keep things organized.

Since I work from home I will more then often whipped out my laptop and lounge in bed.

...BUT it is so important to NOT do that.
Early risers tend to concentrate better and be more alert and energized throughout the day.
Individuals who wake up early have more positive thoughts compared to night owls. They are found to be more optimistic, agreeable, conscientious, and satisfied with life. Female early risers are also much less likely to develop mental illnesses, such as depression or anxiety.
🔑 The KEY to being a morning person - Giving yourself a reason to wake up early and spend your mornings doing something valuable to you.

If you've currently got a trends-only strategy - it's time to start to consider some new styles of Reels!
🤔 You've probably noticed that IG is trying to keep up with their red-hot competitor TikTok but unlike IG's aesthetically-driven approach, Tik Tok appreciates more unique, rough-around-the-edges style of content.
Off the cuff rant videos, quick tutorials and comedic content are accelerating on both apps over "mass-produced" content that involves hundreds of thousands of people recreating the same trend with a not-so-different-from-the-last-person spin.
This doesn't mean you can't ever film a trend again, but you do need to start getting a little more creative...
Consider:
👉🏼 Reels that involve talking directly to the camera
👉🏼 Vlog style/BTS Content (less perfect and curated)
👉🏼 More tutorials and how-to's
I'll be starting to create more original content - I'm trying to lean in to the fact that "less perfect" content is actually performing better these days ✔️
But if you do want to use a trend, do a big SPIN on it. Make it unique and different to all the others!

Don't you just love when you get crazy email at the end of the day on Friday.
💪😎 It's all about boundaries!
Here is what I do to make sure my clients are away of the boundaries I set for my business.
✔️ Set away message on email.
I set it to automatically send an email response starting in the middle of the day on Friday that I will get back to emails on Monday in the order they were received.
✔️ Set work hours in email signature.
I have in my email signature that I check email 2-3 times a day and generally get back to emails in a 24 hour period.
The mindset people have for freelancer or businesses owners is that they are available 24/7. NO. Just nope.
If someone works at a bank you don't send them a text on Sunday afternoon as say you have a deposit that you would like to get into your account ASAP. So why is it OK to message biz owners in that matter. The simple answer - it's not!
