Ontario based artist, jev has dedicated his time towards music since he was 9 years old. Although he's originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, jev spent the majority of his youth in South Africa before traveling to Canada. In our first artist hosted playlist of the year, we tapped in with Florida based artist Apollo1027 to curate this episode as well as to learn more about his upcoming single 'Under Pressure'. Initially catching up with him in April 2020, he already had some success and had put out a number of great songs, and two amazing projects: Summer Solstice and 1027. He soon collabed with Freddy Leone and followed up with an even stronger project called 'The 3rd Generation EP'. Remaining consistent with his craft, he's gearing up to release his newest single 'Under Pressure' dropping next Friday, January 28.

In our last info post we discussed digital marketing and the many ways it can help artists not only with their marketing efforts, but the ways it can help multiply your time and stay relevant in a very competitive industry. Artists have an abundance of different options when it comes to building a digital marketing strategy including: Establishing a dedicated website, Building and email list, and making a professional EPK. While these are great ways to amplify a marketing strategy, we believe the very first thing an artist should do is establish a social media presence and build out from there.

Social Media is one of the best ways to start marketing for underground artist because not only is it mostly free, it allows you to build a brand, connect with your fans, as well as connect with other artists and businesses. Building and maintaining a strong social media presence is like having a marketing team that is working 24 hours for you because even when you're not actively working on it, the work that you put into will always be there.

Brining in the New Year right with a renewed focus on underground music we put together and an updated playlist on SoundCloud which we are calling SoundCloud Gems. SoundCloud is home to some of the best producers in the world and we really wanted to showcase these talented artists. This month’s SoundCloud gems come in the form of what is known as “flips”. For starters, we need to understand what a flip of a song is. A “flip” is basically taking a sample from an existing track and making a new version of it in a creative way, sort of like remixing but with a lot of elements stripped away and added in.

“Flips” run a heavy percentage of Soundcloud’s user platform, and for good reason too. From PearlChilds flip of Kanye West’s “ Come to Life”, See Dee’s take on Destiny’s Child’s classic “Cater 2 U” to heart-thumping recreation of Brent Faiyaz’s “Dead Man Walking” all of the absolute diamonds on this list will have you vibing to your favorite artists in an entirely different way.
