In July of 2008, Strideaway was officially launched as the first online publication dedicated exclusively to the great American sport of Pointing Dog Field Trials. From that time to the launching of the current website in 2012, we have posted well over two hundred and fifty illustrated articles, short stories, fables, other types of media including Podcast Interviews, Major Circuit Championship Ma

ps, and Photo Galleries of Field Trials, Field Trial Grounds and Championship Timelines. There are no comparable sources for this compiled information available elsewhere on the internet or in print. From the beginning, our intention was to invite knowledgeable field trial participants and others in related professions to contribute to Strideaway with the idea that our contributors’ efforts would directly support field trials. Since 2008, Strideaway has given over $11,250 to field trial clubs to help with their expenses. These funds came directly from online advertising, the sale of our products and donations from our readers. With over half a million visits to our website and over 1,770 Facebook fans at this writing, hundreds of emails and other communications expressing enthusiastic support, we are encouraged and believe that there is much more that can be done with continued support and help from the field trial community and related industries. We want to extend our reach to more areas of the country where field trials are held and hope to present articles from many more enthusiasts as well as support other field trial endeavors. Movers & Shakers...gettin it done!!!

COUNTDOWN is on!! We’re nearly one month away from the 2nd Annual Carolina Jamboree at Hoffman, NC. As promised, this year will be bigger and better than last, mainly due to the generosity of our growing list of sponsors. Sponsors that consist of individual donors as well as local, regional and national businesses & corporations. The Jamboree’s goal this year was to increase the overall purse for the High Point Handler and to help give back to owners who pay the entry fees that make this sport possible. We have successfully raised the bar in the field trial community for what is possible to help lower trial costs for the owners, clubs and handlers. To date for 2024, we have raised over $32,000 (not including thousands of dollars worth of outdoor products to be given away as prizes) that will be used to help assist in the series of trials over the span of 14 days. As we all know it is very expensive in today’s environment to put on any trial especially an Open All Age trial. With the Jamboree’s fundraising efforts entry fees have been lowered by $70 per dog! This is done by helping pay overhead costs burdened to the individual clubs. The Jamboree will cover the following trial expenses:
- $10,000 Purse
- Daily land rental cost ($600/day)
- Dog Wagon and driver daily cost
- 200 bales of hay for handlers/judges
- Horse feed for handlers/judges
- $5k to Hoffman’s bird program
- 4 Dinners and social hours
- Embroidered PONCHO shirts for handlers/judges/sponsors

The Jamboree team has successfully reached and surpassed its 2024 fundraising goals and is already looking forward to 2025. This shows the unlimited opportunities that can be attained for trials across the country. By supporting the Jamboree, you’re supporting the sport of field trialing overall…instead of just talking about it folks here in the Carolina’s are getting it done!

During the countdown we will continue to individually showcase and show thanks to each and every sponsor that has made this possible. Continue to follow along and show your support and see y’all at Hoffman!!

“Casey Gets Called Back”...remembering Ryan Frame. Ryan was a dedicated setter man and a friend to all — people and bird dogs alike. He was a talented writer & reporter. Among his many talents was as a field trial songwriter...his lyrics put to the tunes of well-known songs. Never a mean streak in him, he described events that took place in the grouse dog world with hilarious detail. He was surely one-of-a-kind. RIP Ryan.

The caption reads:
Turning back the clock 72 years to May 1940, Albany, Georgia for the premiere of the film “The Biscuit Eater.” Cap’n John S. Gates leads Lester’s Enjoy’s Wahoo in their parade down Pine Avenue in Albany, the Henry Binns Hotel in the background. Much of the filming for the movie was done in Albany. Lester’s Enjoy’s Wahoo was a 21-time winner for his owner Dr. B.S. Lester of Birmingham, Ala. He plavced in two prairie Derbies in the fall of 1937, then was third in the 33rd Quail Futurity. He won runner-up in the National Derby Championship (1938), and the following fall was runner-up in the Manitoba Championship. The white and liver pointer won the 1939 Continental Championship, was runner-up in the Manitoba and All-America Championships the following fall, and in February 1940, captured the National Championship crown at Ames Plantation.
