🌶️ Spicy Thursday! 🌶️

There’s seemingly a spectrum of grift on social media. On one end, we have people exaggerating or fabricating their credentials (like a certain coach who just went on Breakfast Club). On the other, it’s more nuanced, where an actual expert gets enough following that they start drifting over time, eventually selling supplements or information that is no longer supported by evidence.

Why do we have strong reactions toward these people after learning they’re full of s**t? Many reasons, including injustice! One I think is we do NOT like feeling betrayed or disappointed. We might question our judgment. That’s hard to sit with. That might be channeled more as anger orrrrr doubling down to support that person, because the new information would be too difficult to accommodate.

It’s ! Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome is a collection of connective disorders, with a wide variety of symptoms within and between groups. Today, we post about co-occurring conditions, because it’s rarely just that simple lol. I personally have POTS, MCAS, narcolepsy, and several others. I’m also trying to figure out a new guest I’ve had the last 2 years. I also have ADHD, which also has a higher co-occurrence with EDS, for reasons that aren’t fully understood.

I recommend following the and hashtags! Additionally, .danlos is a great hub for resources.

It’s interesting that we often defend our field/sector/job (even if we complain about it and experience in-fighting), but we don’t see many politicians doing the same. We see them defending their PARTY, but not their actual position or field, at least not on a large scale. What does that say about the identities of the people in the legislative and judicial branches, if this is the case? OR, if that’s wrong, why don’t we see it as much?

EARTH DAY. Let’s talk about nature and impacts on mental health! IMPORTANTLY, none of the suggestions here will replace formal mental health treatment. However, these can be helpful regardless and as a supplement, especially if we are wanting to be holistic.

It’s Black Maternal Health Week!

There are persistent (and rising in some areas) disparities in Black maternal health outcomes, including serious complications and mortality. Importantly, this cuts across socioeconomic status, including among those physicians THEMSELVES. The causes are multifactorial, and, in large part, likely systemic barriers.

Talk to Black families about these experiences. Share these posts with people you know. Advocate for friends and colleagues who are pregnant. Contact legislators.

There’s a difference legally and ethically regarding the Chiles conversion therapy ban case. It’s scary AND there was some fear mongering, clickbait headlines.

🌶️ Please share this! Reels that are longer aren’t as visible.

🌶️ Spicy Thursday🌶️

Lots of information coming out in the files and, unfortunately, still not survivor-centered. PEOPLE endured horrific abuse, not political ideas. It’s important we remember who should be prioritized.

Second, if you’re shocked about some people appearing in the files, I’d recommend exploring that. Of course, we tend to believe that people are telling us the truth. We wouldn’t survive if we distrusted EVERYONE. It is important to also balance this with how we view parasocial relationships AND people that commit these crimes. Social media gives a false sense of intimacy. When things are also politicized, we tend to group ourselves and assume that everyone in “our group” has the same values and beliefs, which may not be true. Or could be true, but their behavior isn’t congruent. There also aren’t always obvious signs of predators; that’s partly how some get away with it. Then, of course, there’s the power associated with it. Not everyone mentioned in the files probably has all the same culpability, but we can certainly argue that enough people knew SOMETHING and did nothing.
