Meet Pierre, the peregrine falcon. This is my friend’s bird but I will have my own eventually! I am studying falconry and excited to continue strengthening my connection to these incredible birds and wildlife overall. Did you know that 60% of peregrine falcons die in their first year? Falconry can help. How? Capturing young vulnerable birds of prey and developing a relationship with them to hunt game and providing habitat and availability to food resources all help increase their survival rate.⁣

Big gills poppin, little things stoppin! The lack of snow during high full sun days offer a tough bite. So what do you do? Adapt. I selected a spot with extra slush since there was no snow and closed the shack windows to darken the room. The feisty fish came out to play with the shadows of the dark. Had a grand old time catching gills and keeping warm in the shack while chasing flags. Grateful for my ice pak to keep me organized from my tip ups to my ice rods and all my gear. ⁣Ready to pop some biggins out this weekend. Stopping by the Chicagoland Fishing, Outdoor, and Travel Show as well so hope to see some peeps!

Had fun to switching it up this weekend fishing by parents lake house in southern Wisconsin. Love coming up here because we have the 4x4 rigged and ready for ice fishing. Settled into a spot and I landed some nice gills, a small pike, and this healthy gator to top it off at the end of the evening. The pike was peeling away from some time and then I had to bust the tip up through the ice from the freezing temperatures. Almost couldn’t get the fish through the hole but I did and I was ecstatic, shaking, and shortly after my hands were freezing! Luckily had my gloves and shelter to warm up so I was a happy camper! ⁣

I finally fished first ice this past Saturday so happiness is restored and joy is who you share it with! I seriously was feeling a wee bit down from not fishing for quite some time, iykyk. I felt like a little kid in Christmas when I knew it was safe to go out Saturday. I finished prepping all my gear and set out Saturday for an outing with my best friend Shelby and my dad joined us later on after work! We drilled holes at different depths along the w**d line and setup the tip ups while we jigged. Finally got chilly in the evening so we setup the shack and trekked deeper into the lake to search for crappies and gills. While Shelbs was making stew, I put on a spoon with a fathead to draw in some activity and wam bam thank you mam, fish were on the screen. Feisty gill launched up and smacked my spoon. Soon we were hooting and hollering, you would have thought we caught a monster lol. Ended up catching a variety of gills, crappie, and a perch. No big toothy predators this round but that’s okay. I tested out my new gear in the winter elements, built my confidence and skill sets and had a grand old time laughing and being silly on the ice with my dad and best friend. I felt refreshed and renewed like there is purpose to life again lol. Beyond grateful I have the opportunity to fish with my friends and family as well as conduct solo outings. On a side note, I have a medical procedure tomorrow to hopefully find some answers to help me feel better on a daily basis so I can live life to the fullest. Wish me luck and best believe I will be back on the ice asap, hopefully Wednesday but this week for sure! ⁣⁣

When the ice fails, bust out the boat! Mother Nature is unpredictable and continues to provide inconsistent conditions where I live so instead of dwelling, I adapt! Each year I find myself fishing open water during the winter months, sometimes on the river and sometimes on the lakes. We are experiencing a warm spell this week melting the ice we had going. However, a cold snap is in store for next week so praying for healthy ice! Until then, you can find me by the river for walleyes and smallies! Do you fish on the boat during the winter months? Let me know in the poll below!

Welcoming a cold icy December with open arms! Organizing my ice fishing gear this morning in preparation for my 1st outing soon! My pops and I keep an eye on a few local lakes that are shallower and get the 1st deep freeze. The lake I live on is still wide open but the waves were in slow motion yesterday which is satisfying to watch. The past few years I have had to travel north to ice fish as often as I want. Praying Mother Nature offers consistent local ice this year (Don’t worry I’ll travel too)! ⁣

Soon it will be cold enough for long enough! ⁣⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣⁣
Good luck to my friends ice fishing today, hope you’re smacking em’! ⁣⁣⁣⁣

Longs Peak Climb, Colorado, 08.26.2024⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣Recently reminiscing about my trekking adventure in Colorado to climb Longs Peak at 14,000 in elevation. Wanted to share my story so here are some of my favorite photos and moments from my experience overall in CO. I needed this trip more than I knew. Life will always be busy and sometimes you need to just go for it. I peeled myself away from busy of work and the intensity of society to decompress in nature and ground myself to the earth. This was a challenge to myself to hike farther and higher in elevation than I ever have under rigorous conditions. We started at wee hours of the night around 2 am geared up with headlamps, snacks, and good vibes. We made excellent timing, by sunrise we made it to the Boulder fields. Weather and conditions have been great thus far. However, the wind continues to pick up speed while we are bouldering our way to and through the Narrows. My stomach churns as the wind gusts up to over 30 mph and a dark cloud appears in the distance. Wet slippery boulders at over 13,000 in elevation is absolutely frightening especially when you have a slight fear of heights. We continued to climb until there was a larger boulders to overcome that were extremely wet from recent rainfall. At that time, I had a realization that achieving the exact 14,000 mark in elevation was not worth risking my life. I made a calculated decision based on conditions and my gut to call it and return to safe conditions. Lots of emotions to unpack here but I am grateful I made the decision I did. As soon as we made it back to a safe position at Boulder Fields, all of the emotions started running through me. I began tearing up, feeling full of gratitude and joy to be deeply rooted in nature and in tune with my instincts. As we continued to trek down, another rain cloud formed over Longs Peak. Upon our return to the parking lot, we heard the park ranger and hikers mention conditions were dangerous and one mistake could cost you your life, reinforcing we made the right decision. It is not about the top for me but the climb is what gives you character.

Happy Sunday friends 🌞 ⁣

A slower day on the water yesterday, near sunset I connected with a largemouth and what was likely a pike that broke loose. Both on a chartreuse and white spinner trailered by a white swim bait. Any day on the water is meditational for me requiring me to slow down and decompress in nature. I love soaking up the crisp autumn air, observing all the migratory birds and balls of bait fish while looking for a giant. I continue to learn and evolve in rich outdoor experiences mentally, physically, and spiritually. Bonus when you have friends to do it with lol, thanks to my buddy Brian for inviting me out. ⁣

Thinking about dreamy evenings on the water filled with cotton candy sunsets & full moon views! This past week went out with my dad on our local lake. Found a school of fish and worked them with Senko and Dark Sleeper swim bait. Both baits I used had chartreuse and brighter colors with a couple feet of clarity. Grateful to have connected with many health largemouth with a walleye peppered in between! Hope everyone’s weekend has been well! ⁣

08/09/2024

With the colder temperatures this weekend I expected the bass fishing to slow down compared to warmer temps + last week’s new moon phase. Well it was slower, however, with a different technique my pops and I managed to pull 8 or so nice fish off a point in about 8-12’ of water. We used the Crush City “Freeloader” baits with a jig while hover strolling different combinations through the w**d line edge near bait fish. Connected with several healthy largemouth this way! Forgot the net and a 5lber shook at the boat but either way was stoked to see healthy fish digging our bait during a cold front. I am always excited to get out and challenge myself in different situations and build my skillsets. Cheers! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!
