Happy holidays, dear Mass Exodus-ers! As our first year is about to welcome our second year, we're pleasantly overwhelmed by so much.

First and foremost, our gratitude spills out to each and everyone of you. From the beginning, our goal for this podcast wasn't necessarily to amass a big following, but rather to invite listeners into a safe space to be known and seen. The constant feedback we received about how different episodes inspired lives all around the globe was exactly what we hoped for. This feedback led to further thoughts and reflections amongst us as hosts, which in turn inspired our lives, as well.

And although the numbers aren't the focus, we did end our inaugural year with several thousands of downloads. The amount of listens continue to increase which means our stories are being shared with others. Amazing.

As we move forward into our next year, we set off on new visions for the Mass Exodus. We're going to dive deeper into the spiritual realm of mysticism and focus on topics surrounding the human condition like grief, mental illness, relationships, regret, and how these intersect with church and faith. We will also continue our deep conversations with new and returning guests. There's lots and lots on the horizon!

All of this to say, we are indeed overwhelmed with the fruits of our hard work and inspired to keep diving into the now and the next. My heart flutters just thinking about this!

As for the rest of the holiday season, we are going to pause to enjoy the time with our families, but we will release new episodes after the start of the new year.

Social media is probably not the place you’d like to show your worst side, right?

Truth be told, we don’t want to look stupid in front of old high school classmates, distant relatives, and coworkers. So to post a podcast conversation in which one talks about personal anguish around ma********on, p**n, and body image may be the antithesis of sharing photos of freshly baked holiday cookies and Hawaiian winter vacations.

But I wholeheartedly believe that under the perfect poses and images of sunsets exists that bleeding struggle with shame and secrets that are hard to face and reveal. At the end of 2009, I burnt out as a pastor. Lots of factors played into this, but quite possibly the biggest one was totally unexpected. This is my (quick version) of what happened and I’d love for you to hear it. It’s me at my most vulnerable state. Takes just 12 minutes.
One other thing…
I don’t have kids to post pictures of on social media but this podcast feels very much like my growing baby. I’m so proud of what has come about the hard work we’ve put into it. We’re not breaking the charts (nor set out to), but day after day we receive messages from people all over the world who tell us it has helped in their healing process due to painful religious experiences.
As I say time and time again, it’s NOT an anti-church or faith-bashing podcast. It’s just an honest deep-dive into this force of power that has impacted many of our lives for good or for bad. On a side note, it’s also very professionally produced so it should be pleasant to the ears. And it helps when your cohosts are ridiculously talented, too.
