Former lead singer (and founder) of early 2000s indie band The Troubadours, Mark Frith joins us on the podcast.

Mark has experienced the highs and lows of the music business. After breaking the stigma of being a song writer amongst friends and family, Mark quickly realised he was on to something, when top band managers discovered him on myspace.

From that point onwards it was a whirlwind, as they were propelled to fame. Their first big break came when they toured with Paul Weller, and it felt like a continual rise to a successful destiny.

With more fans turning up to gigs, the Troubadours signed to Sony records, and turned Japan.

Nobody could foresee what would happen next, but it was a bumpy ride. Strap yourself in, for a mesmerising episode!

This week we welcome Phil Ireland to the podcast, who has navigated all corners of the music business. Phil originally honed his graft as a grade 8 bassist, playing in various bands during his developmental rise. His hard work paid off when he joined hard rock band “Exit State.” From that point it was a whirlwind of highs and lows, as the band pushed to truly make it.

With backing of the fans, Exit state pushed the world’s biggest bands in the music video charts, back when fan lead voting was in place.

The crunch point came when Exit State were drafted in the final two bands to tour with Muse, a moment which changed their lives, for better or worse. We hope you enjoy EXCLUSIVE INSIGHTS into the fabrics of the band.

Whilst giving us an open and honest insight into the music business, Phil is constantly evolving as a musician. After reforming as a solo artist after covid, his most recent album “Ruling Days” is a reflection on his decision to take to the local pub scene. Whilst adapting to the cover music, Phil has found inspiration in the more “poppy” tunes in his own writing.

This week we welcome the very popular local singer songwriter Connor Banks. With over ten years of live gigging under his belt, you’d be shocked to discover Connor is just twenty one years old. We cover all parts of his short, but productive, life as a musician. Connor threw himself in the deep end from the age of 12, getting regular gigs in the pubs and pushing himself to audition for shows such as X-factor.

As he has grown into a young man, Connor admits he has never had “a normal job” and after gaining a following during covid live streams, he hasn’t looked back.

Connor is now rapidly rising in the original music world, releasing his own music and performing it at original music venues around the North. With a band formulated around his music, Connor has sold out local venues such as Chorley Little Theatre.

Recently retired local singer takes us on her musical journey. From being a contestant on pop idol to being auctioned at music showcases, Laura had some humble beginnings in the music world. This gave her the experience to come back to live gigging after giving it up to move away.

In what could be considered an “emotional rollercoaster” of an episode we talk about the highs and lows of being on the pub gig circuit, and how the scene has evolved over time. We also cover Laura’s big decision to recently step away from performing, and the struggles that has presented. We review 2023 as musicians, play some Christmas games, take a football diversion, then finally set our goals for 2024. If you can’t go off script at Christmas, when can you?

Blackpool based original band gig promotor Gary Mcintosh joins us on the pod, to give us an insight into the daily struggles inside the unsigned original music world.

After gaining some success through myspace demos in the early 2000s, Gary has always valued the hard work that comes with being a songwriter.

This pushed Gary to put his guitar down, and start to become a voice for unsigned original music as a promotor.

Gary discusses what exactly goes in to putting an event together, the high financial risk, social media marketing, how he deals with egotistical bands, all accompanied by the buzz of getting an event right.

Gary also urges Government and the music platforms to do more in bringing the next wave of talent to the surface, or we risk losing the next big band, for good....
