What's New for 2025?
Although it looks much the same as last year's model, the Ioniq 5 receives meaningful changes for 2025. The larger of the two available battery packs grows in capacity from 77.4 kWh to 84.0 kWh, which Hyundai says improves the SUV's range. By how much, we don't yet know. Last year's model had a maximum EPA estimated range of 303 miles, but it's possible this change could push the Ioniq 5's longest-range model to about 325 miles per charge.

Toyota's new models may use BYD's hybrid technology. According to domestic media reports, Toyota's joint venture in China in the next two to three years plans to introduce plug-in hybrids, and the technology route is no longer likely to follow Toyota's original model but is likely to use DM-I technology from BYD. In fact, Toyota's bZ3 is currently using a powertrain derived from BYD, but the bZ3 is a purely electric sedan. Toyota and BYD have also teamed up to set up the BYD Toyota Electric Vehicle Technology Co.

Founded in 1967, AMG was the brainchild of two former Mercedes engineers, Erhard Melcher and Hans Werner Aufrecht. AMG was originally meant to design, test, and produce racing engines, but they soon found that there was a demand for upgrades and customization well beyond just the engines. Up until 1990, AMG produced packages as well as fully customized vehicles. 1990 brought a major change, as Mercedes decided to recognize AMG’s efforts and there was a co-operation agreement signed between the two. This allowed AMG options and fully-customized cars into Mercedes showrooms, opening up the options to a greater variety of buyer. By the end of the millennium, Mercedes went all-in with AMG, buying a controlling share of AMG and making AMG cars part of the official Mercedes-Benz line-up.
