WANTED: Abandoned place in Iceland. Since 2013 the photography exhibition STEYPA (http://www.steypaphoto.com/) has been hold in Iceland during summer. Icelandic as well as international photographers present their work that all have in common to reflect Iceland in a special and non mainstreaming way. One of the unique features of the exhibition is that it is hosted at an abondened place like a greenhouse or an outhouse or a stable or a (fish) factory or any other place that is easily accesible for visitors. This year STEYPA would like to offer a location in the South of Iceland to become partner. For players in the tourism industry this could be a great chance to gain from even more guest attraction.

Anyone who would be interested to become partner of STEYPA or could connect to people that might have space to host the exhibition is heartly welcome to comment this post or to get in touch by phone (8668358) or mail ([email protected]).

STEYPA is a low budget project that is run by enthusiastic artists. Unfortunately paying a rent cannot be offered but definitely the (social media) marketing and public relation activities will effect the location in a positive way.

The whole nation of Iceland is shocked about the criminal case of a 20 years old girl that had been disappeared for a week. The country experienced the largest search by the Search- and Rescue team ever. Today it became sad certainty that the girl became a murder victim. A body was found along the shore South of Iceland. Over 700 volunteers were searching for her. The search, rescue and emergency photographer Sigurður Ólafur Sigurðsson went with them to catch moments of their work. It is a really sad occasion, but still his documentation is an important journalistic contribution to an even greater attention for the rescue teams in Iceland. Their work is necessary and exceptionnel when life is in danger. No matter if it is for locals or for tourists. Everyone living in or visiting Iceland could be in need for them one day. That is why you should make a donation as they are funded solely through public donations. Every single krona helps: http://www.icesar.com/support-us

American business students learning about Iceland's financial crash in 2008. Fundamental content was given by CityWalk Reykjavík. They learned that a lack of critical voices was one of the reasons why the system worked as it worked until day x in October 2008. Asking the guide about Iceland's economic future and how far critical voices towards the rapidly growing tourism business should be considered, he answered: Go to the Faroe Islands if you do not like it here. Iceland has no problem with the number of tourists. It is only a question of better infrastructure.

What do you think about his answer?

Simple equation: More tourists in Iceland = more tourist information spots in Iceland required. The opening of a new tourist information located in the town hall of Reykjavík was announced widely. I went there on the opening day. The certification labels had their place at the wall already. Unfortunatley the shelfs for flyers, leaflets a.s.o. were still empty and the floor showed evidence of a sleepless night for the construction workers. Icelandic mentality. Never expect performance running on announced opening days.

Civil March for Aleppo -

By far this is the bravest action regarding the war in Syria I have heard of for long. It does not have to do with Iceland. It is far much more important to pay attention to it than anything that happens in Iceland. Humanity for the people forgotten in Aleppo!

"Do not take yourself so serious!" Icelanders are doing great in this saying. Take some time and watch this message for christmas. It is good exercise for practising pronounciation of Icelandic names as well.

Have fun. Enjoy life. Do not take yourself so serious. Merry Christmas - Gleðileg jól!

Watch Part Two of us wishing "Gleðileg jól” or “Happy Holidays” to every resident of Iceland. Individually.

Two Icelandic women went on a journey. How to live a life true to myself, not the life others expect of me? It is about finding the own compass. It is about INTUITION.
