Nearly 4 weeks after 6 people were shot in Compton, including a man who died, Los Angeles County Sheriff's investigators are still trying to figure out who did it.

That shooting happened at a pool party on the evening of Friday, June 7th.

It ended with 28-year-old Robert Abdelkader III dying at the scene, and 5 other people being taken to the hospital.

The L.A. County Sheriff's Department says deputies saw dozens of people -- perhaps around 100 -- leaving the property where it all went down.

The shots were fired at a home near Greenleaf Boulevard & Campus Drive.

For weeks now, LASD's Homicide Bureau has been asking anyone with information about the gunman/gunmen to call either them or Crime Stoppers.

Detectives are still hoping someone out there -- who has a name, description, or picture/video of the shooter(s) -- will come forward with a tip.

If you're needing a passport for the summer travel season, the U.S. Postal Service may be able to help.

It plans to hold a "passport fair" this Sunday (June 4, 2023) in Los Angeles.

The first-come-first-served event begins at 9:00 A.M. at the Barrington Post Office, which is just west the 405 freeway between The Getty and West L.A. V.A. Medical Center. The address is: 200 South Barrington Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90049.

Just 150 people will be allowed, so the USPS encourages anyone wishing to apply to show up early. The passport fair will end at 2:00 P.M.

"To help speed up the process, customers should fill out forms ahead of time," the postal service said in a news release Wednesday. "Application forms and information on the costs and how to apply for a passport book and/or passport card can be found at usps.com/passport or travel.state.gov/passport."

The California Highway Patrol has issued a Silver Alert for a missing 80-year-old Los Angeles woman named Hilma Filius.

She was last seen at about 11:00 A.M. yesterday (Thursday, July 28, 2022) near West 74th Street & Main Street. That's by the 110 Freeway and Manchester Avenue.

The CHP says she is 4-foot-10 and about 120 pounds. It's believed she may be wearing pink sweats and an oversized gray shirt.

If you know where she is, the CHP says you should call 911.

CLOSURE UNDERWAY: A section of the 210 Freeway is now closed so that Caltrans can do a hinge replacement on the San Gabriel River bridge.

Caltrans has shut down the westbound side of the freeway, and diverted westbound traffic to 3 lanes of the eastbound side of the freeway.

The eastbound traffic is also using just 3 lanes right now. So, while it's still possible to get through on the 210, there will be big delays.

Caltrans is encouraging drivers to use alternative routes if possible, or even alternative transportation (mass transit).

The bridge work & closure is expected to last until Tuesday.

UPDATE at 2:54 PM: The CHP says Soon Kim has been found, and that the Silver Alert has been canceled.

URGENT: The CHP has issued a Silver Alert for a missing 77-year-old woman from Los Angeles.

Her name is Soon Kim. She is five feet tall, and weighs 85 pounds.

Authorities say she was last seen Wednesday morning near South Westmoreland Avenue & West Olympic Boulevard.

They believe she was wearing a green jacket, blue shirt with green and pink on it, and white slippers.

Be on the lookout for this woman across the Southland. If you spot her somewhere, CALL 911.

Gas prices are still high, but they continue to fall. Many areas around Los Angeles are now under $5.90/gallon for regular unleaded, according to a new report out this morning.

Many areas of Southern California now have self-serve regular gas-price averages below $6.00 per gallon, according to the Automobile Club of Southern California.

The lone exception to that is Bakersfield, which is averaging $6.02 per gallon.

The Auto Club's 'Weekend Gas Watch' report shows most areas dropped by about 15 to 20 cents in just a week's time.

"As of today, Los Angeles wholesale gasoline prices have dropped by about $1.50 since their highest point in early June and are now at their lowest level since Feb. 28," said Doug Shupe, a spokesman for Automobile Club of Southern California, in a news release Thursday morning.

Here are the current averages for regular unleaded, from highest to lowest:

• Bakersfield: $6.02
• Santa Barbara-Santa Maria-Lompoc: $5.88
• Ventura: $5.88
• Los Angeles-Long Beach: $5.87
• San Bernardino: $5.83
• San Diego: $5.79
• Orange County: $5.77
• Riverside: $5.76

Starbucks confirms that it will be closing 6 locations across Los Angeles, West Hollywood, and Santa Monica.

In a Tuesday-evening statement to Stewawel News, a Starbucks spokesperson listed several bulletpoints, including this one: "We are closing six high-incident stores in LA; we look forward to continuing to welcome customers at the many company-owned and licensed stores in the city."

Another bulletpoint: "Starbucks are a window into neighborhoods across America, including in LA, and feel the challenges a unique way."

Starbucks confirmed these locations will be shutting down:

- Los Angeles: Hollywood & Western; Hollywood & Vine; Second & San Pedro; First & Los Angeles

- Santa Monica: Ocean Front Wall & Moss

- West Hollywood: Santa Monica & Westmount

Shinzo Abe -- who last visited Los Angeles in 2015, part of an official trip to the United States -- has been assassinated in Japan. Mr. Abe had strong connections to the Southland. He attended the University of Southern California (USC) in the 1970's. During his 2015 visit, he even took a tour of the modernized campus.

About a dozen people are hurt after a tour bus and a semi truck collided in El Segundo. It happened just before 8:30 A.M. near the southeast corner of LAX... near Imperial Highway and Douglas Street. The impact sent the tour bus flipping over onto its left side. Three of the injured people are said to have very bad injuries. The El Segundo Police Department put out an advisory on Twitter, urging drivers to avoid the area.
