With deep sadness we regret to inform you that five lives were lost in the Titan submersible on 18th June, expert says. Dive expert David Mearns told the BBC that the debris field was found includes a landing frame and a rear cover from the Titan submersible. The US Coast Guard confirmed the found.

The debris was located by a remote-controlled underwater search vehicle (ROV) near the wreck of the RMS Titanic A US Coast Guard news conference is scheduled for 15:00 EST (19:00 GMT) on Thursday afternoon.

On board the submersible were the founder of the OceanGate Stockton Rush; a British businessman and explorer Hamish Harding; a British father and teenage son Sulaiman and Shahzada Dawood from a prominent Pakistani family; and a famed French maritime expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

Missing Titanic sub: Rescuers race against time to find passengers in Atlantic

Every passing minute puts the sub’s crew at greater risk. It had a 96-hour oxygen supply when it was put to sea at roughly 6 a.m. Sunday.

The research vessel Polar Prince lost contact with the crew of the Titan submersible an hour and 45 minutes into its dive. The US Coast Guard estimated the submersible had between 70 and 96 hours of emergency oxygen, as of 17:00 EST (22:00 BST) on Monday.

The Coast Guard has sent two C-130 Hercules aircraft to search for the submersible on the surface of the water, and has been joined by a Canadian C-130, and a P8 aircraft equipped with underwater sonar capability. Sonar buoys are also being deployed in the area.

Rear Adm John Mauger of the US Coast Guard said it would need additional expertise to rescue the vessel if it was found underwater and he was reaching out for help, including to the US Navy and the private sector.

Canada's defence department said that, along with the aircraft, the Canadian coast guard vessel Kopit Hopson was assisting in the search.

Horizon Maritime, which co-owns the Polar Prince, confirmed to the BBC that vessel is helping and a second vessel, the Horizon Arctic, has been sent to the site.

The first full sized digital scan of the Titanic, has been created using deep-sea mapping. The scan was done in summer 2022 by Magellan Ltd, a deep-sea mapping company, and Atlantic Productions, who are also making a documentary about the project.

RMS Titanic photographed in late January 1912, her lifeboat davits are fitted and she would be dry docked within a few days after this moment.

According to Titanic Universe, Carpathia did not have the space for all 20 and left seven lifeboats in the North Atlantic.

The 13 lifeboats they brought back were placed in the possession of the White Star Line.

RMS Titanic pictured here in the month of January 1912, her last funnel was placed in early January. Throughout January, lifeboat davits were fitted, the two bow anchors were fitted, which were removed some time after launch, and the hull above the waterline was painted grey. Press photographers would make regular visits to Harland and Wolff around this time.
