Two Beerded Guys took on New Years at Upland FSQ !
Two Beerded Guys was lucky enough to snag a couple of tickets to Upland Fountain Square New Year’s Eve Beer dinner. When Jon wasn’t able to make it, I was more than happy to fill in as Tyler’s +1. Upland’s Fountain Square location was looking to flex their culinary muscle, so they lined up a five course meal with paired beer samplings to ring in the new year. I had been (and eaten) a few time before, so I was quite excited to see what they would serve up, and I was not disappointed.
First up was the salad. Upland opted for a beet salad with grapefruit which provided a tangy refreshing start to the meal. Next up was duck gnocchi (my personal favorite). Damn delicious and would very much like to see this, or something similar, pop up on the regular menu. In true Hoosier tradition, we also got a course of pork loin, but jazzed up with a Korean Bulgogi marinade. Afterword was ancho coffee rubbed steak paired with mushroom farrotto (think risotto). Here the spice of ancho chilies & coffee paired wonderfully with the savoriness of the perfectly prepared steak and richness of the farrotto. Lastly was chocolate hazelnut PB & J cake. Honestly, by this point I was so full from the healthy sized prior 4 portions, I was only able to force down a few bites, but it was a nice sweet treat to end the meal on. All the while we got to sample Upland staples like Juiced in Time IPA, Bad Elmer’s Porter, & Teddy Bear Kisses stout, each sample complimenting each dish brilliantly.
Even if you aren’t hungry, this Fountain Square taproom is well worth checking out. It’s quite spacious inside, has plenty of tables & a two sided bar, a game room complete with pinball, and a really nice patio area for the warmer months. It’s a perfect place to pop in for a drink while exploring Fountain Square, or making it your sole destination for dinner & drinks.
