It's the first day of spring and I've felt really de-frosty today. I like to ring in my birthday season with a bang that was definitely achieved thanks to my friends 🧡 But now today I'm feeling low, not a bad low but... you know when you experience something really great? Anything that happens after it is just less amusing or interesting. You're like, "Wow that was great~"

As an Audhder, I feel like that's especially important to remember throughout life, cuz we're such sensory people. Feeling the intensity of joy and then the plateu into contentment can be confusing. But if you remember to just fly along with your flock, minding your heart, you'll never fall apart for long.

I really loved watching the new version of Bee and Puppycat. It's such a comfy show, but it manages to interrogate some really heavy themes at the same time, like Cardamon and his mother's illness or the realities of working under capitalism. If you've watched it, who's your favorite character in the show? Mine is Cardamon tbh lol. Maybe I'll draw him later this month.

Oh and affirmation for this week: In the dark follow the light in your heart. In the readings I've done for people this past month, this was actually a primary message. No matter what you're going through, there's a part of you that's light, that's beautiful and that feels like love. What are you doing when you feel that part of you? What does that part of you need and desire? Following that can only culminate in a brighter tomorrow. It's divine and it's your right as a human being on this Earth to be able to follow the light in your heart.

I've been sitting on this picture for a loooong time now, maybe waiting for the perfect time to post? My favorite professor released this book, "Black Women, Black Love", and what better time to post about it the week of Valentines Day, a month before I release my first EP, and during Black History Month 🔥🔥🔥

Listen, so much of the deepening of my understanding of love happened as a result of learning about love, Black feminist praxis, and liberation theology from Dr. Dianne Stewart. I've come into myself so beautifully and elegantly over the past few years, and I owe it to what I've learned about my "love ethic" from Dr. Stewart. If you want a piece of that go check out literally any of her books. I'm currently reading through "Three Eyes the Journey" myself.

"Black Women, Black Love" is one of the most eye-opening books I've read on the topic of love, dating and relationships for Black people in America. First off, I'm a nerd so I have to talk about how beautifully interdisciplinary it is. Dr. Stewart's writing style is aspirational for me. And between those words, lies a heart-wrenching tale of how Black people have been systemically torn apart from their lovers, friends, children, and family. And NOT JUST WITHIN THE INSTITUTION OF SLAVERY. We're talking currently- ie. Haitian immigrants being forcibly sterilized in detention centers. How has the degradation of black people seeped into our cultural attitudes surrounding dating, love, and partnership? Yeah. YEAH. This book is PRETTY comprehensive. Support Black scholarship this Black History Month and carry on the wisdoms to be gained.

Bloody moods under the blood moon. Fixed signs check in? I've been so sad these past few days thinking about my experiences over the past year. This time last year was a really hard time. The year before that too. And the year before that...

I made a point last year to affirm exactly how much and what I'm grieving. I grieve living so many years feeling unsupported and neglected. I grieve the coldness I've grow accustomed to accepting as love. I grieve the life I thought I wanted and I grieve the the person I thought I had to be.

The point is too survive. Nothing more, and nothing less. The point is to live a life. The point is me and everything that I am and love.

Forgetting that is often fatal.

I’m now taking commissions thru Fivver! This is how I want go about commissions cuz I don’t like opening myself up to people wasting my time anymore. I literally don’t have the bandwidth for it. Like after the Bali Baby thing I really just realized I need to take my time even more seriously, especially while spending so much time working with the marching band kiddies. Hope that isn’t too harsh lol. So yeah here’s the directions and step for commissions!

Update on the Etsy shop- I haven’t had the time to set it up like I use to lol, but NEW LAUNCH DATE I’m setting for myself, August 10th! I’m literally ready to launch, I just need to photograph prints better and make the listings lmao. I’ve had the launch post drafted for a whole month now so STAY TUNED!

I think the Moon card in the traditional tarot deck is a little counterintuitive. In a lot of spiritual practices, the moon takes on ritualistic importance, but in the tarot the moon often symbolizes deception and the difficulties of navigating the world when actors outside of one’s self have a negative influence. I wanted my moon card to place more emphasis on the beauty and guidance of the moon, while also emphasizing the confusion of navigating the world. Unlike other cards I’ve done, the perspective is very confusing and inconsistent. This is representative of the difficult of navigating “the dark”. When it’s dark out, you can always look to the moon and your intuitive sense of guidance to find your path, even when that path is seemingly obstructed by everything else around you.
