Our Creed

Hey guys, Keaton here. Well if I’m going to tell you what Hey We’re Just Friends is all about I’ll have to start with Adam. Adam and I connected in 2015 in Joshua tree, California. (pictured above) We knew each other in passing before then but that was the night we hit it off. I came out with my roommate at the time thinking it was just going to be a bunch of guys around a camp fire with guitars and beers. I didn’t anticipate the strength of the mushrooms and I didn’t anticipate the Human Permission slip that is Adam Dorsey.

I was in a bit of a rough patch (girl problems/early 20’s identity crisis) really just questioning what the hell I’m doing with my life and more to the point, why am I in this desert? right here? right now? Why am I alive? Why are these rocks so huge? Who put them here? At some point all the other guys went off in different directions leaving Adam and I on this MASSIVE rock staring down at the moonlit desert around us. We became immediate friends. Here was a guy who just took such pleasure in allowing others to connect and let their inner children out. Yes, we were on hallucinogenic drugs, but I’m writing this almost 4 years later and reflecting on what our friendship has progressed into and I’m tellin’ ya - it wasn’t just the shrooms.

We both realized in that moment that we both could do identical shmeagol/gollum (LOTR Fans anyone?) impressions to a T. So I told Adam that we should do a video. He thought ‘yea yea, everyone in LA wants to shoot something, it’s all talk yada yada yada’ but sure enough, we shot that video... four days later. We shot and edited it in 4 hours. We loved it so much that we kept shooting videos and expanding our group. We shot over 10 different sketches, a mockumentary, a public prank, and countless vines (RIP) together. Looking back now, in 2019, I realize it was a time for us to experiment and find our voice.

Now, today, right here - we have more than just a voice. We have a message. And we think it’s more important and necessary than it ever was. That message, that creed, is for adults to learn to play again. To learn to let loose and not take life so seriously. To dance, to laugh, to giggle like we all once did when we were young. For that’s where the magic lies. In play. In joy.
