🧵 When everyone is jumping on the Threads train… should you?

From seeing many new, shiny, buzzy platforms come and go over the years, my answer is…

It depends

> on your business/marketing goals (will this platform help you reach them?)
> your resources (people, time, content)
> how you’ve positioned your conscious brand
> who you are trying to reach and connect with

💫 With over 100 million users joining since its official launch last week, Threads is THE land of opportunity to stand out & gain lots of new followers quickly right now (especially those fleeing the blue bird that’s become very… Musk-y 🙃).

Threads currently has a distinctly “early Twitter days” vibe filled with optimism and fun that can fit nicely with human-centric brands.

+ Joining social & environmental activists as they call out fast fashion brands & shape Threads into a platform for positive impact is *chef’s kiss* 💚

👇 What does that mean for you + your conscious business right now? 👇

If Twitter is one of your main platforms, you have a text & conversation-driven content strategy, your target audience is flocking to Threads, you’re positioned as a tech leader… Threads could be a great fit for your business.

BUT

If your brand is mainly visual, you’re already struggling to manage your existing accounts (I can help with that), your audience is less tech-focused… it might be best to wait & see.

🌴

Whatever you decide, make sure it’s all part of a global social media strategy.

Each platform takes time and resources (to create & share content, engage with your community, etc.) - use them wisely so they actually help your business GROW.

Cheesy, I know! Like a delicious heart-shaped vegan cheesecake, ethically made with local, seasonal & fair trade ingredients 😉 (Yum!)

But it’s also true
👇

My favorite part about what I do is getting to work with entrepreneurs like you who don’t just SAY you put people and the planet before profit. You actually DO it.

While also continuously looking for new ways to give back & improve the impact your business has.

What’s not to love about that? 😍

💚

So, while this girl has never been a fan of the overly-commercialized day of Valentines, I sure do LOVE seeing awesome humans like you do what you do best:

From New Year’s wishes to Valentine’s kisses!

Thankfully, there are plenty of events coming up in February beyond Valentine’s day 😉

Here’s a round-up of my favorites for conscious brands along with some post ideas to quickly and easily make them your own:

🦆 Feb. 2nd:
This year's theme is “Revive and restore degraded wetlands” so why not highlight the importance of wetlands in our ecosystem and how we can help restore them.

🧪 Feb. 11th:
Celebrate the amazing work done by women and girls in Science and the importance of greater diversity in the field.

💕 Feb. 14th:
Spread the love! Share some of the brands, organizations, initiatives & activists you love and are inspired by. Or share some sustainable, ethical alternatives to classic Valentine's Day gifts.

⚖️ Feb. 20th:
Share facts & figures about the state of social justice/injustice in the world today and why this issue matters for a sustainable tomorrow.

🧊 Feb. 27th:
Discuss the impact climate change is having around the world, especially in the arctic regions, using the example of Polar bears.

🐒🦛🐳 You could also post about bonobos on the 14th, hippos on the 15th, whales on the 17th & Pangolins on the 19th!

There are also some major events happening in specific countries, especially:
✊🏿 (US + Canada)
& 🌈 LGBT+ History Month (UK)

What are you most looking forward to next month?

May your 2023 be filled with all the very best life has to offer!

Have you chosen a guiding word for the new year?

I’m fascinated by the many (*often unexpected*) ways that my guiding word takes shape in my life each year.

🌱 In 2021, I wanted to focus on GROWTH, and the year turned out to be one of exponential business & personal expansion. (Also... growing lots of plants 💚)

💕 In 2022, I opted for LOVE, not knowing that love would also include meeting (& adopting) my feline bestie and developing a passion for ceramics 😻

😊 Now, for 2023, I’m choosing JOY!

Joy is already a core part of my approach to business - and to life.

This year, I want to explore it even further.
Inviting Joy to radiate within and around me.
Infusing Joy in how I approach each person, interaction, day, task… and hardship too!

And, of course, helping fellow conscious entrepreneurs use Joy’s power to generate positive change on and offline, especially when combined with Kindness, Hope, and Community!

It’s almost time to say hello to 2023!

If the holiday rush has you going full speed ahead with little (or no) time to think about what you’ll be posting next month, here are some cool international events coming up in January you could turn into posts, reels or stories for your conscious brand:

🎇 Jan. 1st:
This is obviously a big one but there are plenty of ways you could share something that makes sense for your business & stands out from the crowd.

Some of my fav ideas?
Sharing your 2022 sustainability/impact report, favorite customer feedback or Instagram comment of the year, 2023 priorities/goals/upcoming product launches, your guiding word, intentions, or wishes for the new year...

⠾ Jan. 4th:
Highlight the importance of Braille and other forms of accessibility, or how you are working on making your own brand/content more accessible.

✊🏿 Jan.16th: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Share a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the importance of racial justice and its link to environmental justice, or highlight the work of

+ 🔵
Started by a UK travel company, it’s seen as "the most depressing day of the year" 🤔
While there is some controversy over it, it can still be a good time to share mental health tips & resources for anyone who may need it

🐇 Jan. 22nd:
Send your wishes to those celebrating the Lunar New Year, share your fav festive recipes, or why the resonates with you/your brand

📚 Jan. 24th:
Discuss the importance of accessible, high-quality education for ALL in building a more sustainable world & future

✡ Jan 27th:
Commemorate the victims of the Holocaust, share stories from survivors, discuss the importance of peace, & loving/accepting one another

🚫🍷
Share some of your fav zero-waste, alcohol-free drink recipes, or the health & environmental benefits of 0 alcohol

💕 Life lessons from my grandmother

Today would’ve been my maternal grandmother’s birthday. Marie (everyone called her Mimi) grew up in a small village near Toulouse where she & her family were known as “The Spaniards” by the (not so welcoming) locals. She went on to become a midwife and, during WII, an army nurse.

Kindness and generosity truly radiated from her in a way I have rarely seen in others since.

She & my grandfather were my first models of eco-living 💚 and I’m thankful I got to have 10 years with her before she lost her battle with cancer.

So here are 10 (+1) lessons from my grandmother

* Good health is a treasure to be cared for

* Eat seasonally with a focus on lots of veggies

* Embrace what makes you you

* Find strength in your beliefs and your spirituality

* Kindness is not weakness

* Be there for others, act from a place of kindness and be kind to yourself too

* You are stronger than you think you are

* You don’t need more stuff; giving is better than receiving

* Don’t limit yourself to the boxes others try to stuff you in

* Rise above the judgment (& discrimination) of others

And finally: check your breasts/chest every month, whatever gender you were assigned at birth! and anyone can get it.

💖 Joyeux anniversaire Mimi 💖

What lessons did you learn from the elders in your life growing up (or more recently 😉)? Share them in the comments - I’d love to hear about them!

Time to grab your favorite pumpkin-spiced treat & coziest content-creating outfit because the spookiest month of the year is almost upon us!

🦇 Rest assured, there are plenty of events coming up in October that you could talk about for your conscious brand, beyond Halloween:

🎀
Share breast cancer awareness facts, resources & organizations. Encourage your community to get regular checkups (breast cancer isn't exclusive to women! 1% of breast cancer patients are men).

🌱 Oct. 1st:
Share the ecological & health benefits of a vegetarian diet, your own vegetarian journey or your favorite veg recipes & cooking tips.
October is also .

🏠 Oct. 4th:
This year's theme is "Mind the Gap. Leave No One and Place Behind" so why not share some of your favorite ideas or initiatives that help create more sustainable, carbon-neutral cities/towns with fewer inequalities.

😌 Oct. 10th:
Discuss the importance of quality mental health care access for all, share mental health resources & tips or even your own personal mental health journey and tips that have helped you.

🍲 Oct. 16th:
This year's theme is "Leave NO ONE Behind". Why not highlight some of your favorite (local or international) initiatives and innovations helping provide food access/resources to underserved communities?

👻 Oct. 31st: Halloween (of course)
Share your favorite creative, spooky & eco-friendly costume, decoration or treat ideas for a more  !

(ps: had to sneak in a little black cat appreciation in the graphics 🐈‍⬛ - how many did you spot? 😂)

What my dad taught me about entrepreneurship…

Today would’ve been my dad’s 74th birthday, so I wanted to share some of my favorite lessons from my OG entrepreneur model.

My dad had been a civil engineer initially but he switched to IT just before I came along, and training himself in the then emerging field of computers and the internet (how things have changed since 😅).

Little, I was fascinated by his big red van with which he’d take computers & parts & tools to his clients all over Texas, setting up & maintaining their IT. I also loved looking at the insides of different computer parts he was working on because they looked like miniature towns to me.

But beyond that, what always stood out to me was his dedication to learning, constantly & proactively, and supporting his clients.

I never planned to follow in his footsteps by starting my own business, but life is funny like that and all those lessons sure have come in handy. 😉

What lessons would you add to the list (swipe through above to see it)?
(Bonus points if it’s a lesson from your parents / family)

💚 Hope you have a wonderful day 💚

Happy International Hashtag Day 😆

Social media hashtags were just starting out 15 years ago today & quite a lot has changed since then! Even now, hashtag best practices differ from 1 platform to another (not super useful on FB for instance) & even from 1 month to the next 😅.

Want to find out more about why & how to use hashtags?

Spending time outside, admiring the natural world in all its diversity & beauty, has been essential for my mental health in the face of life’s many twists & turns.

My plan this weekend: head to the countryside with family and spend plenty of time in awe of nature, remembering why I do what I do - to help protect our beautiful earth & all living beings on it, while working on projects that place people and the planet above profit.

💚 How about you: what brings you comfort and energy as a conscious entrepreneur?

💚 Want a great short read for this weekend? I highly recommend this BBC article (the inspiration for this post): https://www.bbc.com/worklife/article/20220103-awe-the-little-earthquake-that-could-free-your-mind

🌊 It’s ! 🌊

💙 Oceans give us so much:

🐳 Producing at least 50% of the planet’s oxygen
🐠 Absorbing about 30% of carbon dioxide produced by humans
🐟 Ensuring the livelihood of millions of people, most of whom are in developing countries
🐋 Providing a home to millions of different species (91% are still unidentified)
… and so much more!

But our actions over the years have had a serious impact,
with the depletion of 90% of the big fish populations, and 50% of coral reefs destroyed.

Here are a 8 ways each of us can help take better care of, and our oceans:

🏝 Organize / participate in a local beach clean up
🏖 Don’t leave waste on the beach
🐢 Consume less plastic
🦐 Eat less (& more sustainably sourced) fish & other ‘seafood’
🎣 Stop supporting businesses that negatively impact the ocean & environment (through intensive fishing activities, water pollution…)
⚓️ Demand greater accountability from governments and corporations
🐙 Support brands, organizations & initiatives who are working hard to protect & restore our oceans
💧 Learn more about local ocean-friendly initiatives near you, marine conservation, the UN World Oceans Day 30 by 30 program, and the Blue Economy (= the sustainable use of ocean resources for economic growth, improved livelihoods, and jobs while preserving the health of ocean ecosystem)

I have a deep love for the ocean, sea, rivers… any body of water really. Perhaps it’s because I’m a Pisces, but being in or near water instantly soothes my soul & I can’t imagine a world without it.

What does the ocean represent for you?
Got any favorite ocean-loving brands & initiatives to shout out in the comments?

It’s today in France (already!!!) 🇫🇷😫🌍

Here are 10 of the (many) lessons I’ve learned on my own journey towards living & working more ethically, sustainably & inclusively (to push overshoot day back 💪):

1. It’s ok to be a perfectly imperfect activist & environmentalist (imperfect action > inaction)

2. It’s an ongoing learning process - be kind to yourself and others along the way

3. There are many ways to take action & make a more positive impact - find what works for you (and your biz) and be transparent about what you put in place & are working on

4. Examine your own habits & biases regularly to explore where they might come from and how you could better align them with your values

5. There's a lot we can learn from other cultures & past generations on how to consume less & better

6. Environmental Justice is Social Justice - we’re all in this together so an intersectional & inclusive approach is key to make real, lasting change happen

7. Support local & international businesses & causes that are aligned with your values (by buying from them, working with them, donating, volunteering…)

8. Keeping the 5 R’s of zero waste (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Rot) in mind are a great way to consume more consciously & produce less waste

9. Check in with your values regularly to make sure your actions are aligned with them

10. We can make a difference, as individuals and a collective - let’s focus on the specific actions we can take rather than give in to hopelessness & eco overwhelm

Do any of these lessons speak to you?
What would you add to this list?

Hope you had a wonderful Earth Day yesterday! In honor of the weekend & the fact that it’s also today, I’ve compiled this list of 22+ powerful books on ecology, nature and how to live a more sustainable, hope-filled life: https://thesocialpalm.com/book-recommendations-books-on-ecology-nature-how-to-live-a-more-sustainable-hopeful-life/

Happy reading!

And if you have any recommendations to add to the list, let me know. I’m currently reading Aja Barber’s book "Consumed: the need for collective change: colonialism, climate change & consumerism" - an absolutely fantastic, thought-provoking read (& #2 on this list)

22/04/2022

There’s something magical about really taking the time to see, and appreciate, all the gifts the Earth gives us and how connected we all truly are.

This , I’d love to know: how has your relationship with the Earth evolved over the years?

As a kid, I spent countless hours climbing trees, picking fruit from them and berry bushes, searching for mushrooms, playing with bugs to make mud pies (poor bugs!) and any animal that would let me.

I felt so deeply connected to - and in awe of - the human, animal, plant & even mineral world around me.

In my teens, 20s (& early 30s), I lost sight of that connection, shifting my focus towards my studies, work, big city life…

Then, a few years ago, I finally found my way back to that deep sense of connection, love and awe.

Remembering how connected we are to each other and the world around us is an endless source of motivation and comfort for me once again.

Getting to continually find new ways to incorporate that into my life & the work that I do AND connect with fellow Earth-loving humans in the process?
Well that’s just the icing on the cake (or mud pie 🐜)

So, however you choose to celebrate this beautiful Earth of ours, today and every day, I hope you make it count and find your own wonderful way to !

I’ll be in my garden 😉

💚🌍💙

What new Pinterest trends & features should you be looking into (or out for) this year for your conscious brand? 🤔

I wrote a detailed recap on https://thesocialpalm.com/pinterest-news-and-trends/ but if you want the shorter version...

📍 Here are my 4 takeaways from the annual Pinterest Predicts presentation last week:

1/ Pinterest’s goal is to be “the most positive place on the internet”, making it a safe(r) space, focused on inspiration and creativity, for brands, creators and individuals alike.

2/ There are 35 new trends that Pinterest predicts will take off this year, based on people’s searches. Plenty to choose from to create content for your conscious brand, both on and off Pinterest.

3/ Pinterest is testing out various tools to make shopping more integrated and personalized, including a shopping API to auto-update prices & inventory to in-app checkout to personal ‘shops’ with product recommendations.

4/ A strong focus on Creators, Idea Pins and brand collaborations

What are your thoughts on Pinterest for your business?
Do any of these trends or announcements spark your interest?

I’m so excited to finally share the redesigned thesocialpalm.com with you!!! 🎉

The fabulous Amy, from Blue Raspberry Design, worked her magic to make my website way more eco-friendly (😱 84% less carbon footprint than the one I had put together!) and also way more JOYFUL! 😄

Big bold text, pops of color, circles and waves… Honestly, it brings a smile to my face every time I look at it and truly embodies the feeling I want to give my clients and everyone I interact with.

I hope it’ll make you smile too and give you a better feel of what it’s like to work with me.

Let me know what you think! 👉 https://thesocialpalm.com/ 👈

28/02/2022

When each of us takes action, even small, imperfect action, day after day, it adds up to a powerful positive force for a brighter tomorrow for all.

💞

As Black History Month comes to a close (though the learning continues), Russia’s invasion of Ukraine escalates and the climate crisis continues…

It reminds me just how connected we all actually are, not just humans but all living organisms on this beautiful earth, including those that came before us and will come after us.

Yet, in our current societies, so many of us (especially those in power 🙄) seem to have lost sight of that, the collective good giving way to individual gain. Fear, greed, hate seem to take over, bringing with them injustice, inequality, violence, war, environmental disasters… 😖

Still, I choose to stand firmly on the side of hope.
Of love and joy.
Of connection and kindness.
Because I know we are stronger together.

💞

So… What can we, as empaths & conscious business owners, do when things feel particularly dark?

LEARN & STAY INFORMED, focusing on trustworthy sources

SPEAK UP: share what you believe in, start & join important conversations, including hard, uncomfortable ones, both online and off

TAKE ACTION, whether that’s through donations, volunteering, how you run your biz…

FIND YOUR FOCUS: figure out what matters most to you, where you can make a difference, and start there

Depending on what you are able to do & what feels right to you.
Also, continue to make space for your own self-care - you can’t pour from an empty cup, as they say.

💞 What are some of the causes that you feel particularly passionate about?
