Musicians. Over the past few years, the tools and resources available to create and release your own music have become robust and easily available. There is a ton of validity in learning all aspects of music production, release, etc. The more you understand, the better your music will ultimately be. However, itās important to know what you donāt know!
The post below is an example of an all too familiar situation that can happen when youāre working on your own. This artist has little to no recourse to figure this out. Iāve encountered other situations with publishers, permissions, mechanical licensing and more where artists have had their music taken down, albums pulled from stores, and even been sued for damages related to mistakes that couldāve been prevented. This is not a criticism of the artist, because ultimately the thing they should primarily focus on is making the best music they can make in an authentic, and meaningful fashion.
We are all navigating changes in the industry literally every day, and collaborating and trusting other professionals and creatives will make you stronger. The same way youāve worked to hone your craft as a musician and writer, other people: photographers, producers, graphic designers, instrumentalists, A&Rās, Filmmakers, Synch Professionals, Tour managers, booking agents, and record labels have a wealth of experience you donāt have.
When multiple people do the thing they do best, all working towards a similar goal, you are empowered as an artist to do the same, and make amazing music! Im not saying you canāt learn these skills, and āDIYā you way to a meaningful career and life in the music. Iām saying that the artist that chooses to bring people into their creative and professional process, empowers them to work with you, and TRUSTS them to work on their behalf, have unlocked the secret to this whole thing. Those are the people that get kicked off the stage at the Grammys because they have so many people to thank! šš¼š¶šæ Next Music Company Origin Records
