The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has pulled the Super Eagles out of Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya. This comes after a frustrating 12-hour ordeal at Libya’s Al Abraq International Airport, where the squad was stuck since arriving on Sunday afternoon. The Nigerian team was on its way to Benghazi for the critical qualifier when their chartered aircraft was redirected mid-flight to Al Abraq, a small airstrip usually reserved for hajj operations. Players and officials were stranded without any assistance from the Libyan Football Federation, which failed to provide transportation. A 35-year-old zookeeper, Babaji Daule, was fatally attacked by a lion at the Presidential Library Wildlife Park in Abeokuta, Nigeria, after leaving the safety gate open while feeding the animal. The lion inflicted fatal injuries to his neck and was then shot and killed by park personnel to prevent further harm.
