"This day in weather history" Aug 13th
1986: 3.04 inches of rain fell in Flagstaff, AZ, the most ever for a single day in August in the city.
1950: Hurricane Able was the first Atlantic hurricane to be given a "phonetic" name. The first storm was named with an "A", the second with a "B", and so on. It was not until 1953 that actual names were given to tropical storms.

Oklahoma City received 6.58" of rain which is 7th most for daily record rain in the month of August.
Oklahoma City measured 6.58" of rainfall today, which puts today at #7 for record daily rainfall in Oklahoma City (and the highest daily rainfall for the month of August). Oklahoma City records go back to November 1890.
"This day in weather history" Aug 12th
1778: A hurricane struck Rhode Island, causing extensive damage. It prevented an impending sea battle between the French and British during the Revolutionary War.
1982: Showers and thunderstorms drenched the Kansas City area with torrential rains. Up to 14.55 inches deluged the southeast suburbs in two days.

1999: A rare tornado touched down in downtown Salt Lake City, UT. Trees were uprooted and windows were shattered by the F2. The Delta Center, home of the Utah Jazz, incurred roof damage. There was 1 fatality and more than 100 injured.

There was an active wind advisory for parts or northern VT but a last minute High Wind Warning was issued around 7pm. 1861: Cherrapunji, Meghalaya, India measured 366 inches of rain during the month of July 1861. From August 1, 1860, to July 31, 1861, Cherrapunji received a record-breaking 1,041.75 inches of precipitation.
2002: San Antonio, Texas recorded 9.52 inches of rain on this day to set a new record for its greatest rainfall for the entire month of July.

We have the 2nd named storm of the Atlantic Hurricane Season and the first Hurricane. This is Hurricane Beryl. The current forecast has Beryl also becoming the first major hurricane of the year. Major hurricane's are hurricane's that are Cat 3 or stronger. There is currently a high pressure system usually called the Burmuda high that is steering Beryl west northwest pretty much all the way to the Gulf of Mexico. It is expected to weaken a bit as it moves closer to Jamaica. Still a little ways out to see if it will make a turn north into the Gulf or whether it hits Mexico. Stay tuned for updates on Beryl.

WOW! This morning extremely rare severe thunderstorm warnings were issued in far northern, Arctic ! This is the farthest north a severe thunderstorm warning has ever been issued. It was so far north they had to use satellite indication because radars don’t exist there!

"On this Day in Weather History " . While researching if I could find a reliable source to provide such information. I found that this could be a very successful and a very fun and interesting way to teach some weather history. The reason being is because some of the information I've found kinda blew my mind even with being such a weather buff. The 1978 event really caught my eye and find very cool and intriguing.
"On This Day In History June, 27th."
1953: Boards were driven into trees by an F5 tornado that swept away a farm near Adair, IA.
1978: Volunteer firefighters in Quebec responded to what they believed to be a forest fire. However, when they arrived at the scene they found that the smoke kept moving away from them. It was then that they realized they were chasing a tornado.
1957: Hurricane Audrey crossed the coastline just west of Cameron, LA as a Category 4. The hurricane underwent extreme intensification just prior to landfall with the central pressure falling from 973 to 930 millibars in only 5 hours. Sustained winds reached 150 mph and a 12 foot storm surge flooded the bayou areas. 381 people were killed and the total damage was over 150 million dollars.

Two of the biggest things to note here. Most know that when Green/Blue touches the Red/Pink. It’s consistent with TVS ( Tornado Vortex signature ) #1 This also occurred a few nights ago is that the tornado itself is strong enough to produce a more Hurricane looking feature which is an eye. Not something that’s common nature for Tornadoes. #2 The tornado was moving to the southeast which is even a little uncommon but not rare. But the thing that is really rare and kinda unbelievable is that this Tornado turned 180 degrees and started moving Northwest!!! After 5 hours of driving back to OKC from Western Kansas where tornadoes were a bust. I was able to chase this line of Tornado warned storms in the OKC Metro. The chase day consisted of a total of 18 hours of drive time. This is the same storm I intercepted in Gainesville TX. This is well after dark. Goes to show the energy in the atmosphere and how different the storms are down here in Tornado alley.
Up to golf ball sized hail fell from this monster as it was moving due north from the Dallas TX metropolitan area. I ended up chasing this storm north almost all the way home.
