On July 23, 2024, Dubai played host to a landmark event as the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) launched the Hong Kong Fashion Design Week (HKFDW) and the CreateSmart Initiative – Television Variety Programme. These initiatives aim to transform Hong Kong's creative landscape by showcasing the city’s vibrant fashion industry and promoting cross-cultural TV and film collaborations. The HKFDW promises to unite designers, international buyers, and fashion enthusiasts for an exciting program of runway shows, industry talks, and networking opportunities, solidifying Hong Kong’s status as a global fashion hub.

Led by Mr. Victor Tsang, JP, Commissioner for Cultural and Creative Industries, the CCIDA team embarked on a Belt and Road Asian tour, including visits to Bangkok, Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, and Dubai. These efforts highlight Hong Kong's commitment to fostering global partnerships and enhancing its creative influence on the international stage. The HKFDW and CreateSmart Initiative exemplify the HKSAR Government's dedication to promoting Hong Kong as Asia’s Creative Capital and a prime destination for major cultural and creative events.

Saudi Arabia’s low-cost carrier flynas has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Airbus during the Farnborough International Airshow for 75 A320neo family aircraft and 15 A330-900. The agreement will expand the airline’s capacity, range and enhance its overall fleet capabilities.The new aircraft will join the carrier’s all Airbus fleet serving international, domestic and regional routes. The new A330-900 aircraft will boast a two-class configuration, accommodating up to 400 passengers.

The country’s growth is projected at 4 percent for FY 2024/2025Egypt’s economic growth for the current fiscal year (FY) 2024/2025 is projected to hit 4 percent. According to a Reuters poll, this figure marks a drop from the 4.35 percent growth predicted in April and the 4.15 percent forecast in January.The poll, which surveyed 17 economists, also indicated that Egypt’s economy grew by 2.9 percent in the FY that ended on June 30th, 2024, falling short of the 3 percent predicted in April and the 3.5 percent estimated in January.However, the economy is expected to rebound with a growth rate of 4.99 percent in FY 2025/2026.

First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), the UAE’s largest lender, achieved a net profit of Dh8.4 billion and a 16% increase in revenue to Dh15.7 billion, highlighting its steady growth. The bank reported a 15% year-on-year rise in profit before tax to Dh10 billion. In Q2, net profit reached Dh4.3 billion, with operating income up 14% year-on-year to Dh7.8 billion. FAB’s strong performance was fueled by double-digit growth in both interest and non-interest income, a higher Net Interest Margin (NIM), and a better revenue mix, with Non-Funded Income (NFI) rising to 38% of total revenue from 35% in H1’23.

Dubai: UAE and GCC airlines are offering post-summer sales on air tickets to various destinations. SalamAir, Oman’s low-cost carrier, has introduced a new strategy to provide lower fares and make travel more affordable. Tickets with discounted rates are available for travel between September 16 and December 15, starting from Omani Riyal 19 (Dh180) for flights between Muscat and Salalah. The airline also offers reduced fares on international routes to Dubai, Delhi, and other destinations.

As an Assistant Professor of Design at the American University of Sharjah, Al-Qassimi brings a wealth of knowledge from his studies at AUS and the Rhode Island School of Design. In 2006, he founded Fikra Design Studio, an award-winning firm dedicated to exploring and promoting regional culture and identity through innovative design and educational programs.
