It should come as no surprise Ukraine will never be allowed to join NATO . This whole war is actually because Russia uses this as their playbook since the last group of Eastern European countries to join NATO still pi**es him off (Baltic triplets and Romania).

According to NATO doctrine, the minimum requirement to join the alliance revolves around a key area:

They must be good neighbors and respect sovereignty outside their borders.

Russia knows this. In 2008, they invaded Georgia to keep them out of NATO by claiming Georgian land and having the Georgians deny the Russian claim. With an active border dispute, Georgia was denied entry to NATO. The same goes for Ukraine and its current disputes over Russias new "border."

They do this because Russia wants a buffer zone to keep NATO at bay. This allows them to trade space for time when mobilizing soldiers for war and not have NATO on their front door should problems arise. Imagine if Germany didn't have to cut through belarus and Ukraine in WW2 against Russia?

Furthermore, it is the amount of corruption in Ukraine that has finally come to light. The Defense Minister is being forced to resign after overlooking a scandal that allowed ministry officials to skim money of the top while Ukrainian soldiers died on the front lines. This shouldn't come as a surprise though because "According to Transparency International's 2021 Corruption Perceptions Index, (a scale of least to most corrupt nations), Ukraine ranked 122nd out of 180 countries in 2021, the second most corrupt in Europe, with Russia the most at 136."

A disputed border and a track record of corruption in the military is exactly what Russia needs in order to meet its objective of denying Ukraine entry into NATO and creating a buffer state.

Ukraine is running on fumes.

The recent CIA visit and tank deal could be indication that the US does not believe Kyiv can sustain current operations and will not regain Crimea or Donbas. 300k (1 million in the way) Russians massing along pre-invasion LOAs is an indication Russia will launch a large offensive. There is just far too many things pointing in the wrong direction against Ukraine right now.

-The need for more tanks
-high amount of casualties
-Political infighting
-civilians training the military
-lack of young males fighting
-all active military dead (100k)

The final two points are that Ukraine is dependent on super weapons like the Germans were in late ww2. The meme magic and psychological backbone of Ukraine has been failing while blue and yellow flags come down internationally as “slava ukraini” is no longer the sexy topic.

2/3 of NGOs inside Ukraine can be seen as nothing more than war profiteers capitalizing on a bad situation; sporting cool patches and merchandise. Once the bombs drop, they’ll flee.

Russians are dumb but their not stupid. “They lost thousands!” Yes, but they gained 3 million women. Their army is not the same as before, they have learned. If the Russians want to end this war, they would strike Lviv, cutting the throat of Kyiv’s international staging area. No NATO toys, no reincorporation of occupied Oblasts. Additionally, delaying the capture of Bakhmut is an indication that they want to keep Kyiv’s combat experienced troops pinned down, enabling little resistance for the offensive. Following this, a total encirclement of Donbas would eliminate Ukraine’s capable personnel. However, they will likely hit Kyiv again later this month to regain a psychological and strategic victory for Moscow.

Whether it's kyiv, lviv, or another attack through Donbas, February 24th is only weeks away and a couple hundred thousand more Russian troops are coming, whether you like it or not.

I did a poll yesterday asking for your opinion on a verity of topics including:

-is the East/West directionless
-should Disney be broken up
-is globalism the future
-and is the world returning to tribalism

However, the question the revived the most feedback revolved around Israel.

The question asked: should Israel send it, or retain the status quo.

I’m interested to see what you all have to say on this, and other questions asked:

Be civil.

Hey all,

My apologies on the lack on content. As annotated in my previous post before it was unceremoniously deleted by the god king zucc, this page will reflect more analytical writing that flashpoint news. With that, it takes time to write dialed in bits, so I’ll shoot for 2-3 a week.

I’ve been held up with external, less sexy business in the day to day life so bear with me.

To stay entertained, I’ve been hanging around the Russian and Ukrainian embassy, finding the nearest pub and seeking out the first person of Eastern European flavor for a chat. It’s a laugh riot.

Regardless, cool stuff is planned. I’ll be joining .s2 for a podcast here soon and continue my own.

Hope your weekend is going well.

Cheers.

The people have spoken.

I’ll do more analytical posts than flashpoint news. Analytical bits take a little more time to write so I’ll shoot for at least five posts a week. I think I’ll take the weekends off but do live stream Q&As on Sunday evenings.

Additionally the podcast is coming back with some of your favorite pages on instagram and Twitter as the targeted guests. If you have someone in mind, comment below or send a DM and I’ll get in touch with them.

Short form war docs will be posted as well with footage from the conflict over a song much like Major Samm or Ma**er but include information regarding the topic in text form. I’ll do these on the 1st and 15th of every month.

On YouTube I’ll publish visual updates to get that fella some activity. Something like Lazerpig or . Still working out the kinks.

Additionally, I will continue to write long form, regionally directed articles on .minds.journal. I’ve been doing that for a while now and enjoy collaborating with pages like: , .s2, , , .news, and others who join the substack.

Overall, a rebrand might be in order to reflect the future of the page but we’ll see.

Thanks for sticking around.

Some of you may remember the viral pictures of this soldier, Serhii. His wife. Elena is currently gathering money to purchase supplies to send to the frontline to her husbands unit.

Currently at the frontline it gets as cold as -20 at night. These men are LIVING in trenches. Eating cold food, sleeping in cold and frozen mud, and just generally enduring the worst this war has to offer. I humbly ask for a small donation to help alleviate their suffering with much needed supplies. Every penny will go to purchasing much needed food, warm clothing, and other materials.

Building on lessons learned from Crimea and Almaty International Airport, General Andrey Serdukyov, commander of the VDV, believed his men were ready for combat operations in Ukraine. Tasked with converting Hostomel airfield into a FOB, the VDV would then wait for a 2,500-man reinforcing force before advancing towards Bucha and Irpin, and linking with infantry and armored elements to swiftly encircle and capture Kiev. Their load out appeared to have been 90 rounds of ammunition, 1 field stripped MRE, and 1 canteen. In comparison, Americans drop with 300 rounds, 9 MREs and as much water as possible.

Shortly before sunrise on 24 Feb, the first wave left Belarus for Hostomel.

Sacrificing night vision and cover of darkness, the initial element utilized daylight to enhance visual communication while softening operations via artillery strikes eliminated Ukrainian C2 and IADS capabilities; ensuring air superiority for a sky bridge. However, Russia's inability to defeat Ukraine's anti-air assets coupled with repeated artillery strikes on the airfield eliminated the possibility for reinforcements or supplies. Regardless, vulnerable, without night vision or air support, and running low on supplies, a second and third wave arrived, secured the airfield, and established defensive positions, accomplishing their initial task.

"The first troops were very polite and professional. Sometimes, they'd knock on the door and ask for food. They fought good and hard." - International Volunteer

Relying on a centralized command structure, their predesignated orders were to advance towards Bucha. Small elements took the task but were repeatedly pinned down. Command and moral disintegrated as Ukrainian artillery, drones, and SOF ravaged them. Utilizing captured equipment and supplies, the VDV did their job as best they could. Miraculously, they retained control of Hostomel for weeks until receiving the order to retreat, amidst the Ukrainian counter offensive.

"It all depends on METTC; how long they are running ops, how far they need to walk, etc. I'm pretty sure they didn't follow the layout book." - Ex VDV Officer

“Standing in the door of the lead aircraft, the paratroop commander adjusted his helmet and equipment one last time. The jump light glowed red. The land below was enemy-held terrain, with objectives ripe for seizure by his crack forces. Their mission, as befitting paratroops, had strategic and operational objectives at its heart. Sixty miles behind enemy lines at a thousand feet, the war’s rapid conclusion could be within his grasp. The light turned green and out he stepped. The slipstream pulled him down and away, toward his fate on the ground.”

Here shortly I’ll publish a full write up on what happened at Hostomel airport from the Russian perspective. Complete with information collected from Russian forces and an interview with an international volunteer who fought in the defense.

Hope you like it.

Often called Putin’s private army, the Wagner private military company (PMC) has been operating within since 2018 when requested protection from “aggressive actions of the ”; but have since expanded their presence into , , the Central African Republic (CAR), and others.

Employed as “military advisors”, Wagner provides training to host nation forces, while actively conducting their own operations under direction.

In 2019, Wagner was hired by Libya’s Eastern Government to secure oil and airfields, ultimately giving control of the oil rich nation. Previously, Libya sold 63% of their exports to , but since 2020 Wagner has obstructed current and future efforts of an EU member looking to reduce their oil and gas dependence on by tapping into Libya’s supply.

For ten years, Mali and attempted to stabilize the as insurgent groups overran government positons and secured key logistical sites. However, following a diplomatic fall out in 2021, forces were expelled by authorities who simultaneously employed Wagner to pacify the region and handle more, morally complicated tasks (child soldiers). In West Africa, Wagner’s “successful peacekeeping” operations are an attractive alternative to western intervention, raising concerns as attempts to retain their credibility in the region.

However, after arriving in Libya and Mali, civilians accused the PMC of “murder, torture, kidnapping, looting, sexual assault, and intimidation, frequently with the participation of the local military.” Additional claims were made in the CAR when UN documents stated the PMC was actively targeting unarmed civilians in religious and educational centers. Regardless of investigations from host nation governments, no action has been taken.

Strategically, Wagner is deployed to expand Moscow’s sphere of influence in resource rich states skeptical of US or European intervention. Operating with minimal direct oversight, alongside likeminded authoritarian governments, the PMC is likely to expand into other war-torn areas, capitalizing on often overlooked problem set.

"There is a realistic possibility that Bakhmut's capture has become primarily a symbolic, political objective for Russia. - MOD

For several months now, and forces have been fighting for control of the city of Bakhmut in what is essentially a key part of a larger battle for control of the Donbas. The battle has been compared to a “vortex” as Ukrainian and Russian forces suffer what's believed to be heavy casualties with few territorial gains. Both sides have frequently reported the deaths of more than 100 of each others' soldiers per day.

You may have seen images of the battle on .news3 and other that depict WWI type living conditions as both sides live and fight in trenches.
