On this week’s episode of Bible Talk, we continue our study of the Beatitudes with Matthew 5:9. ⁣

What if Christians were known for their peace?  ⁣

Unfortunately, I don’t think that is the case.  Generally speaking, we are not very good at making peace or even keeping peace.  How can we do a better job?  ⁣

The answer (as it so often is): JESUS.⁣

Jesus changes everything, and the peace that comes from Him passes all understanding. ⁣

If Jesus is our standard, we must welcome everyone and strive to always be at peace with the Lord and His people.⁣

Listen now for more.

On this week’s episode of Bible Talk, we are continuing our study of the Beatitudes with Matthew 5:8. I really love and appreciate that these beatitudes line up with each other.  Layer upon layer of actions to shape us into the kind of human beings we were meant to be. ⁣

We are purified by God through Jesus.  In His mercy, He gave us the undeserved gift of the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins.  That is taken care of.  So we need to just get going on the “pure of heart” thing.  In theory, it seems real easy to do…in practice, not so much.  ⁣

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, the time when the humidity in Georgia settles down and allows us big haired girls a respite from fighting the frizz so dang much.  ⁣

Don’t get me wrong, the frizz is still there, it just doesn’t take over my entire head. No matter the weather my hair is never smooth. If it appears like it is it means one of two things: I have just had my hair done or I have used a product that I really shouldn’t use.  ⁣

See, I need a little body to my hair. The Lord gave me curls because he also gave me very fine hair. I have A LOT of hair, it just fits in a small ponytail holder.  ⁣

Do you know how weird it is to have super curly hair with a very fine texture? It can be very daunting. So I will enjoy the low humidity days and perhaps you will see me with my hair down.

On this week’s episode of Bible Talk we are studying Matthew 5:7, which is all about mercy. ⁣⁣

God’s mercy does not mean you will have an easy life.  This mercy doesn’t mean you won’t suffer the consequences of mistakes you make, but it means those mistakes will never separate you from His love. ⁣⁣

There are so many references to bread and water in the Bible. I think that being hungry and thirsty is something that we can all identify with, but how do you hunger and thirst for righteousness? What did Jesus mean here? ⁣

Join me as we dive into Matthew 5:6 and discuss why God is the ultimate hunger and thirst quencher, how we can accept His invitation for a more abundant life, and what it means to be truly filled. ⁣

We have established a few months ago that I am not a Swiftie and that I know who she is and what she offers to pop culture.

It’s more of a girl thing, I assume, and since I am the only one of those in my house and am too old to have come up while Taylor was making her big break. We did not grow up together.

You know who I do know, though? Travis Kelce. Been hearing about him since 2019 when the Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl. He has been a regular topic of conversation since then in my house. He is a hot commodity on the fantasy drafts for the Trotters.

I heard the news about this budding relationship from his side and I have laughed as I watched the ESPN video of other players waving at her from the sidelines.

His mom, Donna, is one of the people I would like to talk to, right up there with Olivia Manning. The mother of multiple sons who are terrific athletes. And they seem like nice boys. We are indeed about to know all about Travis Kelce and his manners. As Van Trotter says, “Can’t wait for this album to come out.”

On this week’s episode of Bible Talk, we are continuing our study of the Beatitudes with Matthew 5:5. ⁣

The meek are blessed because they submit to God. They fully realize who is in charge. ⁣

This is not weakness.  ⁣
This is power.  ⁣
This is freedom.  ⁣

Choosing to submit opens up so much more.  Submission brings the power, provision, presence, and peace of God.  What more could you ask for?⁣

HANDWRITING… or, as it’s also known… “graphology.” What does it say about you?

Ancient scholars may say it’s a portal into your soul, but us? We say it’s a bunch of hootie.

Join us for this week’s episode of Let’s Talk as we talk all about handwriting.

Also discussed: the importance of a good hairdresser, coxswains, Chinese bear drama, and Emily’s love of baseball. What do you think? Is your handwriting an expression of your soul… or a bunch of hootie?

On this week's episode of Bible Talk, we discuss Matthew 5:4 and how those who mourn are blessed. ⁣

When Jesus discussed mourning and grief, He was referring to more than life circumstances and traumatic events. ⁣

Jesus was instructing us to constantly mourn for the state of sin. Not to cover it up, defend it, or explain it - but to mourn in a way that brings us to repentance. ⁣

By His wounds, we are healed! ⁣
Our sin is on Him! ⁣

As we expand our definition of mourning and live in that truth, we can experience all God has for us. ⁣

How often do you find yourself saying yes to things you just might not want to do? ⁣

“Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs IS the kingdom of heaven.”  That’s present tense, ya’ll.  You could also read it this way:  Blessed are the poor in spirit; for God is theirs.⁣

Being poor in spirit is recognizing our great need for God. We need his outreached hand, his favor, and his goodness. ⁣

He is extending it to us.⁣

Listen to this week's episode of Bible Talk as we begin our discussion on Matthew 5 with the sermon on the mound, the first of the Beatitudes, our understanding of happiness, and what it means to be poor in spirit.

On this week's episode of Bible Talk, we finish up our discussion of Matthew 4. As followers of Jesus and ministry builders, we find so much encouragement in these verses! ⁣

There are many parallels between fishermen and those sharing the message of Jesus - focus, long hours, and the need to change course if things don't go as planned. ⁣ For instance, Jesus and his first disciples knew there were fish in the Sea of Galilee, but they didn’t always catch any. Such is the nature of evangelism, yet we keep sharing our faith.

September is Pediatric Cancer Month. As you may know, my own brain tumor survivor is almost 20, making this interview and story near and dear to my heart.
I’d love for our Nothin’ But Fine community to rally around Ezra— whether it be by prayer, financial contribution, or otherwise.

Please join me and listen in— and have your tissues ready. Ramona’s strength and Ezra’s bravery are forces beyond comprehension.

This week on Bible Talk, we are diving into Matthew 3 and discussing John the Baptist. I have so much respect for John (Can I call him John?...I'm sure it's fine since I added the respect part.) ⁣

He knew his role, and stayed in it.⁣
He never got distracted. ⁣
He never thought he was more important than he was. ⁣
He never made it about him. ⁣
He was devoted to the Lord, and was never swayed by the crowds he was drawing.⁣

My hope and prayer is that we are all inspired by John the Baptist - that we understand what God has called us to do and live our lives devoted to that calling. ⁣

Listen now for more goodness from Matthew 3.

Join me on today's episode of Bible Talk as I continue to share my thoughts as I study the book of Matthew. In chapter 2, we see how God works through us, in our language. We do not always have to struggle and be confused by religious things or theology. He tells us things and in ways that we can understand.⁣

Seek to understand God, and he will meet you where you are. If you want to know about the LORD, he will show up how you need to see Him, hear Him, and receive Him.⁣

There is so much goodness here. Listen now, and learn more about how God speaks to his people as The Magi visit the Messiah (and today).

23/08/2023

I overpack for every trip I take.  I never get any better.  I never learn from my mistakes.  I am not one of those people who can roll up some pants and a couple of tops with two pairs of shoes and hop on a plane with a carry on.  My toiletries alone deserve their own bag.  Each outfit has its own accessories.  It is an 💃🏻ensemble. 💃🏻Yes, some things can be worn with other things and yes, some pieces can be repurposed.  But the me that packs my bag and the me that has to get dressed away from my closet are two different people.  I never know what I am going to feel like wearing a few days from now.  Especially depending on the activities I have been doing.

Jim and I go to Arizona for a week every August. (We’re here right now!) He has a meeting and we add a few extra days to have some time together.  We rent a pool cabana and just sit or float all day every day.  We have lunch there.  I’m telling you, we do not leave the pool area.  We get a lot of reading done.   (See, there is something else that is heavy and in my suitcase…books.  I don’t read on an e-reader.)  I really would prefer to just wear pajamas and have room service, but Jim is not that kind of guy.

He hates room service.  He wants to be out and about.  He loves a good dinner and y’all know how we are about a nice bar with a pleasant bartender.  So, I know what I need to look like.  I know what I would like to wear and what I actually have to wear.  But I always regret the choices I made while packing.  (Like this time. What was I thinking!?) But I stick to the plan that I set for myself.  Because it really gets on my nerves when I don’t wear the clothes that I packed.  Then I am just mad that I schlepped a bunch of stuff that I didn’t even wear.  If it’s in the suitcase then I am going to wear it.  Whether I like it or not. 🧳

I think I have become a plant lady. Of course I say this as I look at 2 cacti that are not doing well and that have not grown. Pretty sure one of them is dead? I thought they didn’t need water? Anyway, several years ago Mac came home with a spider plant from a fall festival. And it is still alive. Against all odds that scrawny wisp of a plant is thriving on the windowsill of the laundry room. It even is reproducing. I could give about 50 of you one of our spider plant babies. And I am so proud. That little plant ignited in me love of indoor gardening. I know that is a stretch. But the windows of the kitchen and the rest of the laundry room sill are full with plants. It gets on Jim’s nerves so much. He says we don’t have any counterspace because of all the stupid plants I keep there. I have even had to repot! They are growing! They are thriving! Do I wish they could survive in other rooms of the house? Of course. But I am afraid to move them. I do have hope for the one window in the living room that seems to suit my monstera. I am currently trying to propagate that one as well. I will keep you posted. 🌿🍃🌱🪴

Teachers are unsung heroes. I recently sat down with some teachers since we are entering into their season...that is back to school time. I know we all feel that summer vacation is just a tad too short. I do at least and your children do for sure. And teachers do, too. The break we have is longer than theirs. They stay longer and start back sooner. They have to completely dismantle their "office" at the end of each academic year just to come back and put it back together. Can you imagine packing up your work space when you left for vacation? What a nightmare that would be for me. Things would be lost forever...or at least as long as necessary to be replaced before showing back up. They love our kids while we are gone. They take care of them. They do the best they can with what they are given. So, when they send the link for the Amazon wish list out or an email requesting paper towels/kleenex/paper/pencils do your best to send them in. It's the least we can do.

Psalm 103 will be the last Psalm! (At least for now.) While I was studying this, I just felt like it was the perfect one to end on. I think you will understand why as we dig into it. ⁣

I love a balm. A lotion. A cream. A serum. I am also a skincare/makeup snob. So the love of the potions can be expensive. I was raised this way. My Mama is stunning and has gorgeous skin and flawless makeup nearly all the time. Kind of annoying really. But helpful. She was a cosmetic sales rep for the first 15 years of my life. (After she retired from singing across the country and hosting a popular morning show in Nashville, that is. See. Big shoes.) This week she told me my skin was looking so red and that I absolutely needed to get out of the sun. True story, you can ask . To be fair, she was not wrong. She has recently opened a new store with her aesthetician friend, Maria that carries not only clothes and accessories, but also amazing skincare products and makeup. And you can get a facial there. And the best mani/pedi ever. I digress. I already love and have talked about my love of Monat Rejuvenique, C. Radiance, and Skin Revitalizing Essence. Ask .judy for help with that. Now I am obsessed with Augustinus Bader The foaming Cleanser that I got from Mama . This week Mama started me on Eminence Organic Skin Care Bright Skin Overnight Correcting Cream for the sun recovery and the Calm Skin Arnica Booster Serum for the redness. She swears by the serum. Not pictured is the Strawberry Rhubarb Hylaluronic Hydrator that smells divine and I have been using since April. So if you see me glowing it’s because of my Mama.
