"The UK regulatory regime for shale gas is considered among the most robust and stringent in the world. However, we acknowledge that it is also complex, with three regulators, the Environment Agency, the Health and Safety Executive and the Oil and Gas Authority, all with responsibilities for regulation. It is not always transparent to both the public and industry who is responsible for what. Therefore, the Government is setting up a Shale Environmental Regulator which will bring the regulators together to act as one coherent single face for the public, mineral planning authorities and industry. We intend to establish the regulator from the summer.

We anticipate that the plans for the Shale Environmental Regulator and future consultations will only apply in England."

We, at Frack News, are wondering who considers the UK regulatory regime robust and stringent?
Certainly NOT the people who have witnessed endless infringements and corner cutting!

I notice that Tee McBee does not mention how many other people she has touched with her hard work on camps.
In 2016 she even traveled to Swanage in Dorset to help us defend our patch of loveliness against the fossil fuel invaders, Infrastrata.
She is a great Protector, please donate, even just a little to help Tee pay off her fines and get back to the front line where she is needed.

TWO people are wanted on warrant after they failed to attend court in connection with the anti-fracking protests at Kirby Misperton.
Benoir Douchy, 29, who had told police he lived at the protestors’ camp outside the Third Energy site on Habton Road, Kirby Misperton, and Sarah Jane Currie, 31, of Sunnyside, Liverpool, had been charged with two others with obstructing the highway.
Their co-defendants, Brian Tudor, 72, of Spring Hill, Darlington, and Lyn Oxberry, 65, of Bracken Close, Stanley near Durham, did attend York Magistrates Court.

Late yesterday, regulators released a long-awaited proposal to ban fracking in the Delaware River watershed, which provides drinking water to 15 million people. Environment America and its state affiliates hailed the proposed ban as a key step to protect the Delaware from the hazards of dirty drilling, even as the groups examine what further action is needed on issues like toxic wastewater disposal.
Residents and businesses are inextricably tied to the Delaware River, and banning fracking is a crucial step to protect it now and for future generations.“The Delaware River is the backbone to the region,” noted Environment America’s Clean Water Campaign Director Megan DeSmedt. “Residents and businesses are inextricably tied to the Delaware River, and banning fracking is a crucial step to protect it now and for future generations.”

The policy group, the Partnership for Policy Integrity, was formed “to promote sound energy policy and to help citizens enact science-based policies that protect air quality, ecosystems and the climate. Our current work focuses on biomass energy, oil and natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing,” said Dusty Horwitt, senior counsel for the group.
Horwitt said in a release that the state of Ohio and the federal government often prevent citizens, even first responders, from knowing what chemicals are used in drilling operations because they deem their extracting process as “confidential business information.”

Environmental groups are celebrating after the last remnant of a fracking joint venture in Western Australia’s Canning Basin was torn up.
Joint venture partners Buru Energy and Mitsubishi mutually decided to dissolve their 2013 state agreement, and the McGowan government has now introduced legislation to parliament to cancel it.
State agreements are a legal contract between the state government and the proponent of a major project, and the parties share responsibility for developing infrastructure needed for the project.
Buru and Mitsubishi restructured their exploration permits earlier this year so they can separately proceed with projects in the region.
But the state government banned gas fracking in the Perth, South West and Peel regions, and placed a moratorium on fracking throughout the rest of the state earlier this year.
The companies will now have to await the outcome of a scientific fracking inquiry, instig*ted by the Labor government, before any further activity on the leases.
Piers Verstegen, director of the Conservation Council of WA, said the termination of the joint venture agreement was a win for communities, who have strongly resisted fracking in the Kimberley.
“The termination of this agreement should be taken as a clear indication to investors that fracking plans in the Kimberley do not have state government backing,” Mr Verstegen said.
Despite the moratorium, the Commonwealth government’s Northern Australia Infrastructure Fund continued to support companies seeking to develop fracking projects in the Kimberley, he claimed.
“This will be strongly opposed by community and environment groups,” Mr Verstegen said.
